Nice fight. If my profile pic, cover pic, and forum signature didn't make it obvious, I was rooting for Rex.

Dynamosaurus Imperiosus/ Raptorexxx 700Dinosaurs Forumif dinosaurs didn't go extinct.

I mostly agree with Silver's points but as i said mostly.

1.) When the Ice age would've hit dinosaurs would have done what mammals did...adapt, I mean feathered dinosaurs and arctic dinosaurs would have had no change in lifestyle while large dinosaurs such as Sauropods are massive and that weight and fat is quite enough to help sustain heat in the cold icy tundra.

2.) Mammals would've stayed small creatures of the night and we wouldn't have evolved in the first place.

3.) No animal would get so big that it would get crushed by the square foot law because such genes wouln't pass on to the next generation, but something i actually noticed was that during the Jurassic Sauropods were very long but not very heavy, while during the Creatceous period dinosaurs were relatively heavy for there length.   Examples:

Amphoecelias:

Length; Weight: 58 m; 122 tons

Puertasaurus:

Length; Weight: 35 m; 115 tons

So by that time a 35 m long sauropod would weigh 120-140 tons! but that would actually help them avoid breaking the law.

4.) Since the weather is now colder Tyrannosaurs and other large predators would probably possess more feathers and would get larger, something clearly exshibted in Theropod Evolution. Raptors Probably get smaller and Deadlier, Example: 1.) Utahraptor 2.) Deinonychus 3.) Velociraptor 4.) Balaur Bondoc etc....

5.) True Aves wouldn't probably be as thriving as they are now, but because of their more efficient ways of flight they would probably be taking over the niech of the small and fast fliers, while Pterosaurs would still be in their Large and slow fliers niech.

But these are just my thoughts because if that Asteroid missed it's target the possibilties would be......well...endless.

Whew, there's a lot of misunderstanding in this discussion.

1. There would be no humans. Heck, mammals wouldn't be much more than rats and other small rodent-like creatures.

2. The Ice Age would be devastating to the dinosaurs, but it would not completely wipe them out. Feathered species and various others living near the equator would do just fine, and I'd dare to say that they'd even thrive.

3. (and this one goes more towards catzilla's post than anyone else) The sauropods would never become so big that they get crushed by the square foot law, because any that got that big would die, and therefore never pass on their genes to the next generation.

4. Although feathered dinosaurs would likely go on to dominate the competition (as mammals do today) I highly doubt that any would go on to become say, 5 ton ostriches. Tyrannosaurs will remain tyrannosaury, Microraptorids will become birdier though they will likely keep their teeth.

Of course, we will likely never know what would happen if the KT extinction never happened, but I do believe that the earth would be as alien to us as say, Gliese 667c.

if dinos didnt go extinct most terophod dinos like troodon or even trex migth have evolved into large birds and sauropods and others migth have grown so big that by the square qube law they would have been cruched by gravity

If dinosaurus didn't go extinct they would soem other way. Nature chooses wisely, like Ian Malcolm says.

I don't really think we would still be here if dinosaurs didn't go extinct :P

CarnosaurDinosaurs Forumif dinosaurs didn't go extinct.

If they survived until todays day and age, there would be some major ecological chaos. A lot of the larger herbivores - namely hadrosaurs and sauropods - would out compete mammalian herbivores.

The theropods would easily outcompete modern day predators, hell even Ceratosaurus outweighed the african lion and Brown bear by a great deal. Huamn encroachment on wildlife areas would make that situation even worse, throwing humans into conflict with multi-ton, angry plant munchers and flesh eaters. Let me tell ya somethin, that wouldn't end well for the humans in any way shape or form.

Scie-Fied King is right, Dinosaurs were on the decline towards the K-T extinction event. Though it is theorized some hadrosaur species survived ~700,000 years after the impact. So they probably survived for some time after, but Mr.Happy is also right. The Ice Age would have wiped them out when it came around. Dinosaurs weren't adept to cold admospheric conditions.
