That's what a lot of paleontologists compare spinosaurs to. Well, I didn't get much sleep so I'm going to catch some z's. Later guys!

I noticed that too. It was more adapted for land than the others. It was like a grizzly bear, which hunt salmon in rivers as well as land prey, while the other spinosaurs were like polar bears and hippos, spending almost all of their time in water.
ReplyDinoFightsDinosaurs ForumSuchomimus vs AmpelosaurusJun 8, 2013
Upon further inspection, I now think that Suchomimus was a little lighter than 5.5, but its possible. Spino got heavier than other spinosaurids because it was more of a land dinosaur than the others, having different bone structure and a crocodile-like skull, while the others had gharial-like skulls.

It would also follow your stats that Spino was up 12 tons. Seems reasonable for a 59 foot Spino.
ReplyDinoFightsDinosaurs ForumSuchomimus vs AmpelosaurusJun 8, 2013
According to some estimates, yes. It makes sense that if a 43 foot T-Rex could weigh over 7 tons, an equal sized Suchomimus would be only 5 or so, being lightly built.

I have a hard time seeing them as used for defense. They were pretty frail and chalky. All other points you make are valid though!

Ampelosaurus

I love the end where the T-Rex and Spino are walking together.
ReplyMakaveli7Dinosaurs ForumWhy did Stegosaurus have plates?Jun 7, 2013
They were probably used for many things: Thermoregulation, attracting mates, scaring rivals/predators and for a little defense if predators tried to bite its back.
ReplyMakaveli7Dinosaurs ForumSpinosaurus vs RugopsJun 7, 2013
Pretty much no chance Rugops could win, even in a pack of 3.
Replyfuturepaleontologist1Dinosaurs ForumSpinosaurus vs RugopsJun 7, 2013
Very realistic. The fight is pretty realistically played. Rugops is screwed from the beginning.

Glad to help, dinosaur.fanatic. I'm writing my own plotline with the stuff I posted a few days ago; I'll post it on a new topic soon.

Interesting idea. It would keep the super-predators from fighting. That would mean diehard fans of the different carnivores would not get upset if their favorite were to lose.
ReplyRex Fan 684Dinosaurs ForumSpinosaurus vs RugopsJun 7, 2013
I forgot to include speed.
Spinosaurus- Top Speed=15-20 miles per hour
Rugops- Top Speed= 25+ miles per hour

This kind of thing has always been a bit of a sticky situation. I specialize in dinosaurs though, so I don't really know more than the basics when it comes to this stuff.
ReplyRex Fan 684Jurassic Park ForumThe JP BooksJun 7, 2013
You really should. Best books I ever read followed closely by the Hunger Games trilogy, haha

Yes, well, as we all know, I am one who believes Spino is smaller than most think. That's a whole other discussion though.
ReplyMakaveli7Dinosaurs ForumCeratosaurus vs MajungasaurusJun 7, 2013
A bunch of people still call it Majungatholus but Majungasaurus is starting to catch on.
ReplyDinoFightsDinosaurs ForumCeratosaurus vs MajungasaurusJun 7, 2013
It's officially Majungasaurus but it used to be Majungatholus.
ReplyPhilosiraptorDinosaurs ForumCeratosaurus vs MajungasaurusJun 7, 2013
So is it Majungasaurus or Majungatholus?
ReplyLord VaderJurassic Park ForumThe JP BooksJun 7, 2013
I've never actually read the books. I think based on this discussion, they are good, so I will look for them in a book store.
ReplyLord VaderDinosaurs ForumTop 10 Most Bizarre DinosaursJun 7, 2013
This is a good top 10. I figured Rex Fan's Quote had something to do with Rex. A feathered Rex would look so funny. If I saw one in a zoo, I would probably think they did something to a chicken to make it grow huge and look like a dinosaur. The raptors are ok with a few feathers though.
T-Rex's head was about 6 feet long, so I am leaning closer to S-Rex's head size idea.
Because Spino's head is shaped like a crocodile's it may have equal bite force, but for all we know, since that's the case, the muscles for opening the jaws could be extremely weak like crocodiles (just a suggestion).

i think it was funny in how the first book when Tim is in the tree and he keeps repeating "shit"
Replyic1158Jurassic World Forum10 Dinosaurs That Should Make a Cameo in Jurassic Park 4Jun 7, 2013
I think it would be very cool if the island was divided into four territories belonging to the four apex predators which would be T-Rex, Giganotosaurus, Spinosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus with the other predators existing within these territories correspondingly with fauna to match (ex- Carnotaurus and Triceratops would wander around in T-Rex territory, Baryonix and Shantungosaurus in Spinosaurus's and such based on certain common traits.) That way the cast would constantly be escaping but would have to adjust to the structure of the new territories.
Replyfuturepaleontologist1Jurassic Park ForumThe JP BooksJun 7, 2013
Yes it was! Mine would have to be when Nedry gets eaten in the first book, and when they meet the Carnotourus in the second
ReplyRex Fan 684Jurassic Park ForumThe JP BooksJun 7, 2013
The part where the Tyrannosaur breaks out of the enclosure for the first and the part where the T-rex takes Dodgson back to the nest. The part where the male rex takes a crap on the car in the second was pretty funny though.
Replyfuturepaleontologist1Jurassic Park ForumThe JP BooksJun 7, 2013
Yup. So what's ur guys favorite part in either of the books?
ReplySpinosaurus RexJurassic Park ForumThe JP BooksJun 7, 2013
i know, it been a little while since i read the first book, i think i remember Hammond hurting his ankle or leg in it.
ReplyRex Fan 684Jurassic Park ForumThe JP BooksJun 7, 2013
I read the first book in 2 days and the second in a day. The first was closer to the first movie than the second and the second movie. I love the books and think the movies are great. Books are slightly better than the movies in my opinion.
Replyfuturepaleontologist1Dinosaurs ForumThe Vendian era EdiacaransJun 7, 2013
They're considered organisms eurkaryotes. Not really animals. The point of this argument is whether or not to consider these primiteve blob-like creatures animals.

Yeah. I feel like maybe Yutyrannus needs a spot here. There are some things I may have changed, but overall I like it.
Replyfuturepaleontologist1Jurassic Park ForumThe JP BooksJun 7, 2013
Or in the first book, Hammond. It changed the whole course of the second book, and set the book The lost world waaaay apart from the movie. I'm not gonna spoil it for anyone, but I'm assuming you know what happened to Hammond in the end. But, I agree with you. The boos were definitely more violent than the movies, and a lot different in many ways.

ReplySpinosaurus RexDinosaurs ForumTop 10 Most Bizarre DinosaursJun 7, 2013
To me, i would think dinosaurs would look preety stupid with feathers, but there is some evidence of some dinosaurs having feathers.
ReplyRex Fan 684Dinosaurs ForumTop 10 Most Bizarre DinosaursJun 7, 2013
Yeah, I forgot to include it likely had feathers. Can you imagine a creature like that? Guess it existed, haha
ReplySpinosaurus RexDinosaurs ForumTop 10 Most Bizarre DinosaursJun 7, 2013
i agree that Therizinosaurus was the more bizarre because it was the tallest therepod, had really long arms, and its claws were really long and sharp, 4 ft long.
