Over the past few weeks a few websites, including us have leaked some fairlysubstantial plot details about Universal Studios' upcoming Jurassic Park sequel, Jurassic World. Recently, director of Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow spoke with the folks at SlashFilm about these plot leaks and confirmed their legitimacy. Read on for excerpts! Obviously, this post contains spoilers.

Colin Trevorrow behind the scenes on Jurassic World Jurassic World plot details

SlashFilm: What do you feel are the biggest misconceptions from the leaked rumors about the Jurassic World story versus the real screenplay?

Colin Trevorrow: That’s the thing about leaks, sometimes they aren’t misinterpreted or false. They’re real story elements that the filmmakers were hoping to introduce to the audience in a darkened movie theater. But unfortunately, in 2014, you read about it on a computer. Last week was discouraging for everyone on our crew–not because we want to hide things from the fans, but because we’re working so hard to create something full of surprises. When I was a kid, you got to discover everything at once, it washed over you and blew your mind. Now it only takes one person to spoil it for everyone else. I hope whoever leaked it is actively trying to undermine what we’re doing. Because if they’re trying to help, they’re doing it wrong.

Colin Trevorrow

So the rumors are true?

Yes. Jurassic World takes place in a fully functional park on Isla Nublar. It sees more than 20,000 visitors every day. You arrive by ferry from Costa Rica. It has elements of a biological preserve, a safari, a zoo, and a theme park. There is a luxury resort with hotels, restaurants, nightlife and a golf course. And there are dinosaurs. Real ones. You can get closer to them than you ever imagined possible. It’s the realization of John Hammond’s dream, and I think you’ll want to go there.

What are the relationships between the main characters and the dinosaurs? Are there “good guy” and “bad guy” dinosaurs in the movie?

There’s no such thing as good or bad dinosaurs. There are predators and prey. The T-Rex in Jurassic Park took human lives, and saved them. No one interpreted her as good or bad. This film is about our relationship with animals, how we react to the threat they pose to our dominance on earth as a species. We hunt them, we cage them in zoos, we admire them from afar and we try to assert control over them.

Chris Pratt’s character is doing behavioral research on the raptors. They aren’t trained, they can’t do tricks. He’s just trying to figure out the limits of the relationship between these highly intelligent creatures and human beings. If people don’t think there’s potential in those ideas, maybe they won’t like this movie. But I ask them to give it a chance.

Will there be crossbred dinosaurs or new species created for the movie?

We were hoping audiences could discover this on their own, but yes, there will be one new dinosaur created by the park’s geneticists. The gaps in her sequence were filled with DNA from other species, much like the genome in the first film was completed with frog DNA. This creation exists to fulfill a corporate mandate—they want something bigger, louder, with more teeth. And that’s what they get.

I know the idea of a modified dinosaur put a lot of fans on red alert, and I understand it. But we aren’t doing anything here that Crichton didn’t suggest in his novels. This animal is not a mutant freak. It doesn’t have a snake’s head or octopus tentacles. It’s a dinosaur, created in the same way the others were, but now the genetics have gone to the next level. For me, it’s a natural evolution of the technology introduced in the first film. Maybe it sounds crazy, but most of my favorite movies sound crazy when you describe them in a single sentence.

Be sure to read the entire article over on SlashFilm.

In addition to the interview above, Trevorrow also recently tweeted this new photo, revealing the crest for the Jurassic World Isla Nublar Veterinary Services, check it out:

Jurassic World patch

So, as you can see, the plot leaks we confirmed are true, but as many fans and now Trevorrow have stated, JoBlo didn't do a great job of painting the leaks in apositive light. We attempted to rectify this in a recent article we posted last week. We'll be revealing more plot details for Jurassic World this week, but with the intent of aiding the film's promotion and without revealing too much. Be sure to keep an eye out for that!

"The Raptors are being tested to see how strong their relationship to man is, and how much we can push it" (Note: that's in my own words please don't hate me for getting the quote wrong) - NOT: There's gonna be an army of raptors being trained by whistle to fight the D-rex! Argh this stinks. He made everything that once seemed bad, into something I can handle. I'm no expert but he's in my opinion handling plot points straight out of the books, which is cool because to me the books are more enjoyable and more superior. Granted this is my most favorite movie series ever as well, the books just feel better. Jurassic World could very well be that bridge between movie mythos, and book mythos that were lacking when the movies took their own approach to the saga in chunks of the first movie, and when they made their OWN - The Lost World... I think the movie is in good hands. Collin squished any fears I had from the leak, and I'm still sad that someone had to ruin stuff he'd wish was a secret. But I'm glad its all working out like a Jurassic movie now.

I'm a little upset about the confirmation. I was really hoping to see Carnotaurus. It's not as bad as people think. It's still a dinosaur. Think of the dilophosaurs. It was completely fictional; it could have been a hybrid with a spitting lizard and frilled dragon. Also, the raptors were huge;could have been hybrids. I just really hope there are more dinosaur species shown than just in the map. I'm guessing we will see some new dinosaurs on the Cretaceous Cruise and maybe the botanical gardens. As for thr paddock, it seems a little small for the quarantine.

Thank you for clarifying this

I was pretty sure they were thinking about something like this. I will like always fully support them, until I see the movie with my own eyes. And I'm pretty sure it's gonna rock :D

So long as the raptors and T-rex are not trained to act like puppies, I'm ok with anything else. And since Trevorrow has already denied this will happen, then bring it on, JW! I have confidence in this movie and cannot wait to watch the first preview. I wonder if it will come out still in 2014.

So, that ends doing Plot Spoilers for me...

I still think colin should've gone with D-Rex as a genetic Accident, rather then an "evelution of Technology"...

Who in there mind would do something like that!?

D-Rex is female? I thought he was going to be male.

I think it being female is much better and anyway, they could still be sticking with the all female strategy to avoid breeding but I would imagine they would just use modern methods to prevent it such as making them unable to breed by genetic means.

Were these animals created on Nublar or Sorna? Is Site B even in the picture at this point? I hope they mention something about it in the new movie.

@Paden, They were creating  the D-rex because as Colin stated "What if there was a park where Dinosaurs walked the Earth again- And what if people were already kind of over it?" or "We imagined a teenager texting his girlfriend with his back to a T-Rex behind protective glass." Accroding to him D-rex was created to spark interest in the park again, making something "bigger, louder, with more teeth." And I believe the animals will be both male and female, like modern animal parks.

@Dilo

I hope there will be mention of Sorna too. If Patel did get ownership of that through the InGen buyout it would be a great place for them to go for their dino's, or maybe to get the DNA to create more (as a one off excercise, you wouldnt want to keep going there after all). I imagine that would be simpler than digging for amber.

Just let the man do his job! Tbh i think he has told the audience a bit too much !

i think the plan of what he said is gd with what they have decided to do withnthe park, but hoping he is miss leading us just slightly. I think all these spoilers r ruining a movie so anticipated, and we aint even seen it yet!
