Director Gareth Edwards has revealed the ending of Jurassic World Rebirth almost featured a fight between the T-Rex and the D-Rex! Something many fans surely assumed was going to happen (myself included) during the final moments of the film – anticipating the red flare would have drawn the Tyrannosaurus out to face off against the Distortus Rex in a final climactic battle. But, as fate would have it that is exactly why it did not happen – it would have been too predictable.

Jurassic World Rebirth Tyrannosaurus Rex

While speaking to USA Today, Edwards explained that he toyed with the idea of having the two titular Dinosaurs face off and put the idea to a vote amongst cast and crew on set. It ended up being the VFX supervisor who convinced him not to end the film that way:

Edwards says he second-guessed this while editing the film and started wondering if it would be better for the Tyrannosaurus rex to reappear and fight the D. rex. "I thought, 'Oh, my God, is this something we should be doing?' " he recalls. "It hadn't occurred to me before."

While he was contemplating creating a new ending where the T. rex returned, Edwards polled everyone working on the film to see what they thought. It was the movie's visual effects supervisor who talked him out of it by telling Edwards, "That's what happens in all the movies, Gareth! The T. rex turns up and saves the day, and everyone's expecting that. I was so pleased when you didn't do that." – USA Today

Gareth Edwards definitely broke the cycle of savior T-Rex finishes, but was it the right move? Some fans have expressed they felt the ending of the film felt open-ended, unfinished and somewhat abrupt. Others feel the film ended in a way that left some much-needed mystery preserved. Some fans definitely look forward to the WWE-style Dinosaur battles, while some praise the film for steering itself away from those stereotypical tropes the Jurassic World films have become known for.

Do you wish the film would have concluded with a final battle between the T-Rex and D-Rex? Or are you happy with how Gareth chose to end the story? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

I'm glad they didn't. I mean the last three Jurassic World movies always ended with a dinosaur battle.
