Makaveli7Dinosaurs ForumAbelisaurid Evolution ProposalJun 24, 2013
I was going to argue that spinosaurs did and use Suchomimus and Baryonyx as examples, but then i remembered that both specimens found were subadults and thus had proportionately larger heads that probably stayed the same until adulthood but still small by cretaceous theropod standards. I think Giga's skull is the longest found to date.

I wish Acro would be, but not likely.

Replyfuturepaleontologist1Dinosaurs ForumAbelisaurid Evolution ProposalJun 24, 2013
Right, that explains why, but the Abelisaurids had an extra digit on their hands that no other therapod species had at the time. And there isn't a very large link between abelisaurs and Ceratosaurs. The link between abelisaurs and early crocodilian archosaurs may be missing in the fossil record

They all would get exercise somehow. All dinosaurs walked around, they didn't go to a prehistoric fast-food restaurant and sit on couches all day. Spino would swim, Rex would walk for hours on end.
They would likely ignore each other due do differences in diet, but in desparate times, they would likely fight for anything and everything. For the most part though, they would likely leave each other alone.
ReplyRex Fan 684Dinosaurs ForumT-Rex/Spinosaurus comparisonJun 24, 2013
I have that same thought. In the end, it often comes down to intimidation. Or they would not be sure if the other was prey or a rival. Because their diets were probably different, they would probably ignore one another.
ReplyRex Fan 684Dinosaurs ForumAbelisaurid Evolution ProposalJun 24, 2013
The abelisaurs were an offshoot of the earlier ceratosaurs. Many large theropod dinosaur groups seem to be slowly losing their arms and trading them for their heads. The tyrannosaurs are the most notorious for this. You have Guan long at one end of the spectrum and Tyrannosaurus at the other. As far as the abelisaurs go, you got Ceratosaurus with a nasty head and teeth to match, but still long arms. Then you get to Tarascosaurus and the head is stronger and the arms smaller. The allosaurs/carcharodontosaurs did it too. Allosaurus had long arms and claws. Then carnivores like Giganotosaurus showed up and their arms were pretty short and their heads were large. The only group that did not do this were the spinosaurs. That's my thought.

Parasaurolophus for sure. It was never a major animal, but was in every movie so far, haha. You more or less listed all the ones I could think of. Perhaps Acro, but I doubt it.
Replyfuturepaleontologist1Dinosaurs ForumT-Rex/Spinosaurus comparisonJun 24, 2013
Spinosaurus and T. Rex are two very different animals. Spinosaurus Aegypticus had a very frightening and intimidating appearance by dinosaur standards, but Tyrannosaurs had more complex brains, because they are later than Spinosaurus Aegypticus. In many circumstances the two would avoid each other. I find it unlikely that they would fight each other.

Sarcosuchus vs Spinosaurus, T-Rex vs Deinosuchus, Livyatan vs Megalodon, T-Rex vs Triceratops, Allosaurus vs Stegosaurus, Argentinosaurus vs Giganotosaurus, Utahraptor vs Iguanodon, Protoceratops vs Velociraptor, Tyrannotitan vs Mapusaurus, Therizinosaurus vs Tarbosaurus, Carnotaurus vs Amargasaurus, Oviraptor vs Velociraptor and Spinosaurus vs Carcharodontosaurus. All of these fights could and likely did happen in real life.

As far as competition for T-rex goes, sure it did not have much. The only thing a Tyrannosaurus would fear, would be a larger Tyrannosaurus. Now, the reason why T-rex had no competition may be because nothing could compete with it. No other predator of similar size, could survive. It seems when the tyrannosaurs moved into a new location, they drove everything else out. They migrated to N. America from Asia at about the same time predators like Acrocanthosaurus died out. Coincidence? I don't think so. Once the big tyrannosaurs, Daspletosaurus, Albertosaurus, etc, showed up and then later Tyrannosaurus, nothing could compete with them.
ReplyRex Fan 684Dinosaurs ForumT-Rex/Spinosaurus comparisonJun 24, 2013
Also, as far as how strong Tyrannosaurus was, it was not just strong when it comes to it's bite force and neck muscles. It's leg design suggests that it could walk long distances in search of prey, territory, etc. Great exercise right there. It would have very strong leg muscles along with it's jaws and neck.
ReplyLord VaderDinosaurs ForumT-Rex/Spinosaurus comparisonJun 24, 2013
We may never know how heavily muscled any dinosaur is. For all we know, Spino might not have even eaten fish. Scientists believe Spino was a fish eater because of fish scales found in a Baryonyx fossil. Swimming would be great exercise, but it likely would not have gone past knee deep most of the time. Dragging huge fish out is where Spino would have to work at it.
If Spino did hunt large prey, it would likely do what any other predator would do and go for the stragglers.
I think Spino would have intimidated it's opponents more often than not. If it did get into a fight, it would slash it's opponent (this is where dragging large fish out of the water would help).
Spino was probably heavy muscled, but maybe not as muscled compared to other theropods pound for pound.
I hope you agree with this answer. Great question, I really had to think about my answer.

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with this list completely. I do think that Spino was longest, but some of those other ones like Mapusaurus or Saurophaganax seem out of place. Just my opinion though.

Australoventator would be an interesting species to throw in their. Austra vs Anky perhaps. I would like to see some abelisaurs thrown in there like Aucasaurus or Tarascosaurus.

Thing with the raptors vs trike, is that they're both going to be pack fights or one on one, From my knowledge the raptors are very cunning, they think every detail for attack Down to the last detail, it would be even in some areas but if it were an even matched fight it would get very boring very quickly....
i think i small little fight with sabertooth squirrel and micro raptor would be funny as hell, just one though if we do it....
giga vs rex seems interesting, i think if we do do giga vs rex we need to do giga vs spino as well OR 1 on 1 on 1.... it might be a spin off or such for the next r vs s fight....
Tyrannotitan vs rex or giga, NOW THAT MIGHT BE WORTH WATCHing i mean uh reading? LOL...
if were to include dinofights sisters uncovery in brazil, it could be interesting, we'd have more info on the dino itself, AND id imagine that the pachy skull found with the giga might lead to they were fighting? *sorry if i got that wrong somewhere, species are hard to memorize* I think it could be interesting... very interesting...
These are very good ideas, please keep up with the brain storms, also try and choose predators that dont heir from the same speices, we can do it, its just that it seems a bit strange to do it...

Tyrannotitan vs Giga vs Rex. I've seen Tyrannotitan estimates at 48 feet, and it seemed like a link between tyrannosaurs and carcharodontosaurs. It would be the perfect match. Well, besides squirrel vs microraptor.

I think one alpha triceratops could take out two or three raptors, so I think Trike vs Raptor is unfair. Trike vs Rex would be biased because of the high quantity of Rex fans here. Giga vs Rex would be interesting because, while the general thought here seems to be a Rex win, most places elsewhere people say Giga

Carchar and Giga are pretty much the same thing, as are Saurophaganax, Allosaurus, Epanterias, and Torvosaurus, but it could work.

Ok, this is the leaked script.
Isla Nublar is a functional park in present day. everything is just how John Hammond dreamed it would be. the park itself is very seaworld-esq with land AND water dinos. everything is peaceful until a new dinosaur is discovered that is smarter and much more dangerous than the Velociraptors. Now the human survivors must use the T-Rex and Raptors to counter this new threat. THIS IS THE LEAKED SCRIPT.

Alpha trike (lady margret) vs Alpha raptor (the big one as muldoon calls it)
thoughts?
ReplySpinosaurus RexDinosaurs ForumT-Rex/Spinosaurus comparisonJun 24, 2013
Why do you say that ? To me, Spinosaurus probably had to be more muscled than other theropods, my reason being, it swam a lot, which had to give it a lot of exercise, it had to drag huge fish out of the water, had to be able to stand up against other predators, like the ones i mentioned in my last discussion ( Sarchosuchus, Charcarodontosaurus, and Rugops ) And in my opinion, it must have hunted larger dinosaurs too. So, to me, it must have had just as much or more muscle than other Theropods.
