My opinion on the Jurassic Park franchise

MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 1:08 PMHey fellow Dino-fans. I'm sonictiger, I usually either post on Scified's editorals, fan art, or the Godzilla-Movies.com portion of the site. Anyways, the best way to introduce myself to this site is to do a topic. Anyways, I've had mixed feelings about the Jurassic Park/World franchise as a whole. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the very first movie. The original had suspense, very good visual effects, and a good story and characters. Also the whole "Life finds a way" speech is probably one of the best quotes in film. It's really the mixed quality of the sequels that provokes these sort of mixed to negative feelings. I did like The Lost World enough, but it was totally not at all like the first movie. With some rather annoying characters and a ok story, it wasn't great in the slightest. I never watched Jurassic Park 3 but I probs will even if it turns out to be the mucky stupidness that lots of people say it is. Jurassic World gave a sort of resurgence to a dead franchise, and it was a really good movie showing very interesting concepts, a good and suspenseful story, good characters, and amazing VFX. Almost everything about this movie seemed right while it wasn't AS GOOD as the OG Jurassic Park. And then Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom happened. It really isn't that good, 6/10 movie. BARELY a 6/10 movie. The movie does have good visuals, ok characters, and a really good cliffhanger going for it. But the story is meh, the human villains suck, I think the Indoraptor is cool but there's no creativity and it's a weaker version of the Indominous Rex. The film really couldn't stand on it's own but it has some redeemable moments that make it a smidgen better then The Lost World which is also a 6/10. Honestly, I hope Jurassic World: Dominion is a good movie and all. But I don't have a lot of faith in a franchise that's only really had 2 good movies and 3 not so good movies. But hopefully, Dominion is great enough to save this ailing franchise. Anyways I like this series, so I hope Jurassic Park/World cleans up it's act. I've said all I want to say so put your thoughts in the comments...
Jurassic World: Dominion releases in theaters June 10, 2022

MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 1:09 PMI do wish I had better things to say but it's hard unless I'm thinking of the OG or the first Jurassic World...

MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 1:11 PMI like the Indoraptor better then Indo Rex, if I’m being honest
expecting the worst, sets you up for thr worst

MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 1:13 PMWell design-wise I see where you're coming from. But for starters the Indo Rex was harder to kill and that was stressful in a moviegoer sense of way.
sonictiger
MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 1:13 PMThe Indoraptor simply fell on some sharp bones and died....
Djdndnejwnwn
MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 1:14 PMare you kidding, The I rex was getting by a really old T. rex and Veliociraptor. Blue could barely handle Indoraptor in JWFK.
expecting the worst, sets you up for thr worst

MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 1:16 PMTrue, but the Rex showed more by taking on multiple dinos. Indo Rap. only faced one dino. Also I do have to say I get the purpose of Blue but it's kind of boring and even a bit ballsy.
sonictiger
MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 1:16 PMBallsy as in not making sense

MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 1:16 PMImma sound like one of the dino people Sasquadash was complaining about. But when you dig up fossils, its not bone, it’s Rock in the shape of the bones

MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 1:17 PMYeah but the skin was supposed to be STRONGER THAN OTHER DINOS

MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 1:17 PMWhere in the movie does it say that?

MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 1:18 PMTrue...but that was after the first round
Djdndnejwnwn
MemberAllosaurusJun-04-2021 2:03 PMWas it? I don’t think Indoraptor was stronger But I really don’t think it was weaker

The Indoraptor on display was canonically deemed a failure in-universe. It was sick, an unstable psychopath (much like its mother), and was more of a show case model rather than a perfected living weapon.
Their is a reason why Dr. Wu wanted Blue, not just for her DNA but because Wu wanted Blue to be the new and improved Indoraptor's mother so she could pass down the desired cooperative behavior to her "children"

MemberBrachiosaurusJun-05-2021 6:47 AMIndoraptor is still my favorite lol
SasquaDash
MemberBrachiosaurusJun-05-2021 7:49 AMThat's also why Wu didn't want it featured and sold in the auction, he if it got out it could cause a lot of, uh, chaos. He also feared that it could be cloned and that the copies could be just as unstable as the original.
Mills: We can make more.
Wu: Yeah, so will they...

Exacta! My friend.
I love almost all of the Jurassic Park/World movies, Three is a bit of a soar spot but I enjoy the sapient raptor subplot. Not a huge fan of Camp Cretaceous
SasquaDash
MemberBrachiosaurusJun-05-2021 8:40 AMI personally really enjoy Camp Cretaceous.
Kattozilla
MemberBrachiosaurusJun-05-2021 8:41 AMHaven't seen it but I just like that there's a Carnotaurus in it :)
I like Carnotaurus
SasquaDash
MemberBrachiosaurusJun-05-2021 9:03 AMCarnotaurus is defiantly one of my favorite theropods, which mainly stemmed from their role in Disney's Dinosaur. That movie was the first film I saw in theaters and It had a huge role in my childhood love of dinosaurs.
Toro is pretty cool, although he gets pretty beaten up in the series. There's a fan rumor that the battle damaged carno that's shown at the end of Fallen Kingdom in the Lockwood Manor might be Toro.
Kattozilla
MemberBrachiosaurusJun-05-2021 9:30 AMAt least Toro wasn't the one in the volcano scene. Bad ending for him if it was...
SasquaDash
MemberBrachiosaurusJun-05-2021 9:35 AMI guess you could say that carno was toast...

THE LOST WORLD (1997)
JURASSIC WORLD (2015)
FALLEN KINGDOM (2018)
BATTLE AT BIG ROCK (2019)
JURASSIC PARK III (2001)
CAMP CREATCEOUS (2020)
I feel Camp Cretaceous is getting overly praised for being the most edgy children show when its level of violence is on par with a pixar-disney movie and the characters behave like they are pulled from a pixar-disney and dreamworks movie. They don't behave like Jurassic Park/World characters at all. I have my own rant somewhere on this website.
I can't forgive Camp Cretaceous for defanging the compsognathuses and turning the hyper intelligent Indominus rex into a moron that's outsmarted by kids. KIDS!
I don't care if its a kid's show, that would be like making AVP a kid's show and having the xenomorphs and yautja outsmarted by children! Camp Cretaceous should have been made into an anime.
Because are giving it underserved praises saying its on par with a Jurassic Park movie which I have to say that's a load of Triceratops Shit!
Kattozilla
MemberBrachiosaurusJun-07-2021 9:20 AMOk yes kids can be dumb, but don't belittle them. I know, I've had firsthand experience with some smart kids.
I do agree...uh...Indy probably wouldn't be outsmarted by certain kids
never saw it so i can't say
Xenotaris
MemberAllosaurusJun-07-2021 9:51 AMI don't doubt that there are smart kids but these a kids from various different backgrounds and somehow are able to do things that normally adults should be doing but no they made the adults all useless in this show. Granted I only saw the first season.
The Jurassic Park series has always been about having a majority of reasonably adults along side a token smart child or two but not this series. Also usually the children can only handle a dinosaur in the films by complete luck either using gas grenades', taking a dinosaur by surprise, or were just plain lucky.
Its hard to imagine how much darker the Jurassic Park books were compared to the rest of the franchise. If the Japanese would of had the rights to the Jurassic Park series back in the 90's you can bet that anime would have been on par with the likes of Berserk, Blue Gender, Neon Genesis Evangelion, or Devilman OVAs. Spoiler: Characters get ripped apart spewing copious amounts of blood. Yeah 90's anime was very graphic.
