The Armoury
It was about two weeks since the wreck. There was still no sign of a rescue helicopter. Bryce and I had stayed in the area of the large tree, but we found dinosaurs rarely drank from the pond. We had to move. We had found a place that was decent, and we were about to start climbing a tree when Bryce pointed something out. We went to check it out.
We walked for about two miles before we arrived at a building. It wasn't huge, but it wasn't small either. It had four stories, and the roof had some vegetation. It was about thirty feet from the river. The door was open, and we walked in slowly. We closed the door behind us, and Bryce grabbed a flashlight. I walked in front, shotgun in hand, while Bryce shined the light where we were going.
I heard something. It sounded like something else was walking. I stopped, and Bryce stopped shortly after. We listened, and we heard footsteps. I shouldered the shotgun, ready for action. Then we heard something else. It was faint, but I could make out words.
"It has a flashlight."
"Maybe it's more survivors."
"Maybe it's a Velociraptor."
"Are you retarded? Velociraptors can't use flashlights!"
I decided to make my intentions clear.
"I saw a building and was curious. I need supplies."
At first, there was no answer, then we heard someone familiar.
"Shaggy? Is that you?"
We started walking down the hallway, and we were met by two of our friends, Bobby and Zach.
"Shaggy, Bryce, how the hell did you get here?"
"We washed up on shore, spent the first night in a tree. After that, we came further inland looking for food and water. I don't know how long we've been here, but we saw this building and came to see if there were any supplies. How did you get here?"
"We got off the boat before major shit went down. We were given a map and followed it to here. We've been here since."
"Map? Let's see."
Bobby pulled a map out of his pocket and spread it out on the floor. It was a book. It had an overview of the island, the buildings were labeled, it even had maps for each individual building. Bryce was amazed by it, and I looked at Bobby.
"Who the hell did you blow to get this map?"
"Screw you."
I looked at the map. I found the building we were in. Lab 06. I flipped to the page with the map of Lab 06, and I looked for anything we could use. We were in the main hallway. Three doors down on our left was a kitchen, first door downstairs on the right was the armoury, first door on the left upst....... Wait, armoury? I double checked, and sure enough, this building had an armoury. We were running low on ammo, so the armoury caught my attention.
"Shaggy, you see something?"
"Yeah, this building's got an armoury. Let's go."
We walked to the end of the hall, took the stairs, and went to the first door on the right. Sure enough, we were at the armoury. I smiled as I looked at the variety of firearms on the wall. There were all kinds of firearms. There were handguns, assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, grenade launchers, everything, and me with only two hands. There were even backpacks.
"Well guys, choose your weapons."
Bryce grabbed a SCAR-H, put several boxes of ammunition in a backpack he grabbed, and he grabbed four magazines. He looked at me and said he likes the Tac-50. I unslung it and handed it to him, and he grabbed some ammo. I saw something else I wanted. Zach grabbed a 1911 in 9mm and an M4, along with a few mags and some ammunition. Zach can't handle recoil much more than a small 7.62. Bobby looked at the weapons, and grabbed a SCAR-H and an AA12. He looked at me. It was my turn.
"Alright guys, Shaggy is choosing weapons, might as well get comfortable, we'll be here a while."
I ignored them and looked at the wall. I was getting a sniper rifle and there was no way around it. I looked at the .50 cals first. There was a Barrett M82A1, there was an Accuracy International AX50, and there was an Armalite AR-50. I ruled the AR-50 out because it was a single shot. I looked at the other two. The AX50 was five round bolt action, while the M82A1 was ten round semi automatic. I grabbed both, shouldered them, looked through the scopes, worked the actions, cycled a few rounds through them, then set them down. Both were great. The AX50 had a Schmitt and Bender scope while the M82A1 had a Leupold scope. Both were three thousand dollar scopes. I decided to grab the more reliable action. I slung the AX50 over my back and grabbed some ammunition.
I looked at the other firearms. I grabbed a second Desert Eagle without thinking, and then looked at the shotguns. There was no shortage to choose from. I decided I liked my 870 and just grabbed some ammunition. My backpack was about half full, and I decided I had room for one more weapon. I looked at the explosives. Never know when you'll need the firepower only a shoulder mounted launcher can provide. I grabbed an RPG and put five rockets in my backpack. I slung the RPG over my shoulder, put on the backpack, and we went to the kitchen. We had something to eat, then we discussed what to do for shelter.
"I think we should stay here, inside."
"Zach, on my way in, I noticed the roof of this building is sheltered. We can stay up there. I've got flares, so if a rescue helicopter comes by, we can get its attention."
"I like that idea, let's go to the roof."
It was unanimous, and we went to the roof. We opened a door and stepped outside. It was bright, and we walked further onto the roof. We were out of biting distance, and I noticed a rope bridge going out into the jungle. We'll need to keep an eye on that. There was a nice breeze, and there was plenty of shade on the roof. I set my weapons down, loaded the AX50, lied down and took aim. I could see for miles in three of the four directions. I can't shoot what I can't see, but there isn't much that I can't see from here.
Night fell, and Bryce had started a fire. They were talking while I kept on eye on the rope bridge. They talked about what we did after the wreck, and they argued who had the best guns. I ignored them. I obviously had the best guns. They went to sleep after a while, and I had volunteered to take the first shift. The guys were sound asleep. I heard wind blowing through the leaves, the occasional dinosaur call off in the distance, and I heard snoring. I was bored, so I dug through the bag I had taken off the ship with me. I looked at the picture of my fiancée. I smiled while I looked at the picture, remembering why I was fighting to survive.

MemberAllosaurusApr-24-2015 1:46 PMMention of raptors? RPGs? Rope bridge? I sense a foreshadowing.
Nice chapter! I'm happy to see this is still around.
