It was early morning and a male Ekrixinatosaurus is patrolling the edges of the territory that he and his mate controls. They haven’t had trouble with rival predators in a long time, so the patrolling was starting to feel more for posture than anything else. But better safe than sorry, this was still their territory that they had to defend so that their young can be raised to be strong and healthy. Nothing seemed out of place, and there weren’t any unfamiliar smells that would warn of intruders. So the male begins to move on, no longer interested in the area enough to stay.
The Gorgosaurs were completely hidden and downwind from the larger predator they had never seen before. Him and his brother were the perfect team when it came to large kills be it herbivore or carnivore. But they had never tried to take down a predator this large which made him apprehensive and weary. After a few minutes it was clear their target was moving off so he gave a low grunt which was his little brothers signal to get the targets attention, and did he get its attention. He walked slowly and carefully trying not to make noise, as if right on queue his brother bounds out of the forest a little ways upwind from him and begins bellowing at the other predator, it didn’t take but a few seconds for their quarry to return the challenge and take the bait.
He was beyond furious; this small predator had just charged at him out of nowhere and began challenging him. It wasn’t the creature’s audacity that irritated him most, it’s the fact he didn’t sense it sooner that really got him angry. He would have to scold himself later though because he had this pompous self-entitled little annoyance that thought it could just walk into his territory to deal with. And whatever it was was beginning to get on his nerves with its incessant roaring. So he responded to his challenger with a roar that seemed to make the smaller creature reconsider what it was doing here. Just then blinding pain shot up his left thigh making him flinch and squeal in surprise; looking back he saw another of the creatures was attached to his thigh and crimson leaking down his leg.
The morning had been relatively quiet with a bright spring sun and smooth cool breeze that seemed to take the edge off the heat. It had been perfect until her and her mate realized that their latest carcass was rotten beyond what they could settle for, so since she had the easy job of walking the perimeter of their territory last time it was her turn to hunt. It didn’t take long for her to find a herd of Limaysaurs grazing in a small clearing at the bend of the local river; it only took her minutes to get in a position to strike at one of the younger Limaysaurs that wondered to the edge of the herd. As she’s crouching there motionless she can’t help but feel that something bad is going to happen, but she shakes it off in time to see that something was distracting the Limaysaurs and that was all she needed. She lunges out of her hiding place running straight at her chosen prey, it was only then that she understood what had got their attention as a full blast roar thunders in the distance. She immediately abandons the hunt, running in the direction of the roar only to have a spike of fear driven through her as a screech of agony tears across the wooded plains...
The pain was pure torture as he could feel every second that his arm was being ripped off by the smaller of the two combatants. Then there was a loud tearing sound as the left side of his chest explodes with excruciating pain, he knew his arm was gone and it enraged him beyond the point of no return. Having completely forgotten about the other attacker now hanging from the bulk of his tail, he lunges at the creature now swallowing his arm and engulfs its neck in between his jaws and bites down with every ounce of his being. The thing in his jaws was trying to make some sort of noise but it couldn’t with his now ripped off arm firmly stuck in its throat, the saliva that was once raining from the choking animals mouth was soon replaced by blood and bile in copious amounts. It soon began making guttural grunts and convulsing with bloody foam in its mouth, then the excruciating pain in his left side made him drop his quarry to the ground and roar in pain. When he works the pain from his system he can see that his missing arm was now missing even more flesh, there wouldn’t even be a stump left after this fight.
The sight in front of him filled his throat with bile; his brother was lying on the ground in the middle of violent convulsions that shook his whole body. He began violently gagging until something exploded from his mouth along with most of his stomach contents. The object was the arm of their attempted prey item, which at this point the attack was a complete disaster. Through ragged breathing his brother is able to get to his feet, and for whatever reason charges the thing that practically killed him not even a minute beforehand. He knows that the best thing to do in this completely awful situation is to run but he couldn’t abandon his brother, so without any way out he has to finish what they started while acting as a barrier for his injured idiot of a brother. He charges the larger animal and jumps onto its right flank and sinks his jaws into the back of his victim before being bucked off.
Everything stopped when a roar enveloped their entire beings, they only realized too late what was happening when the earth beneath their feet began shaking, and a few seconds later the world around them exploded.
She was beyond furious; the only thing she felt at that moment was worry and fear for her mate, and malice towards his attackers. When she charged out of the forest and into the clearing she could tell her shock and awe had worked as the two creatures attacking her mate stopped in their collective tracks. The one that was attacking her mate’s right flank was only feet away when she burst from the forest; she charged right into him with her massive body and the attacker was sent sprawling for quite a distance. She quickly went to her mate’s side to check on him, and was happy to see he had the other attacker dangling lifeless in his jaws. There was a roar to her left as the last attacker charged her mate with an enraged roar… he never made it that far. As the attacker tried to run past her she lashed out and caught the attacker by the back of the neck and shoulder blades, and she was going to make sure its death was excruciating. With it secure in her vice like grip, she sprints forward quickly gaining speed and heading straight for the trees almost dragging the smaller creature. At the last second before hitting the tree line, she uses her own strength and the assailant’s momentum to swing it off the ground and impale it on a massive tree branch.
There’s a massive crash as the creature’s energy forces it all the way to the trunk of the tree, there was enough energy to lift part of the tree out of the ground and tip it on its side, it probably would have fallen if not for the trees extensive root system. The creature squeals, shrieks, and cries at the object now protruding from its chest and abdomen. On the ground below, vitriol and other bodily excretions fall like rain as the last of the assailants life drains from its body in a chorus of violence and death. Finally the creature shudders and stops moving altogether, the trespassers were dead and the territory was safe.
She felt some relief after the first few days, the fever had died and her mate began eating more. And now after two weeks he was on his feet and has little difficulty running, though extended periods of exercise result in his legs aching. So in the late afternoon they lay there together, her head resting on top of his, and both gently reverberating with the others heartbeat. Her mate moves his head and looks at her slightly bulged stomach; it wouldn’t be long until this territory was needed to raise their first clutch of many. But that would be many months from now and there was still much to be done, none of that was important thow, she was just happy to be laying there with her mate as the sun set over the horizen...

MemberTriceratopsMar-08-2015 5:34 PMHonestly, I don't understand why no one else has commented on this yet, because it's really good. Cryo, you managed to include every graphic detail you could ever think of in a brawl as vicious as this, and that takes a lot of good editing and guts (pun not intended).
