The neovenator alpha led his pack inconspicuously through the forest. They had been forced out of their territory by a male tyrannosaurus rex and were looking for unoccupied territory. They walked to the edge of the forest and surveyed the land. They didn't want to be seen and weren't looking for a fight, especially in their weakened state. An edmarka was tackling a large parasaurolophus at the water's edge while seven hungry crocodiles watched intently, planning to steal the kill. The unsuspecting hadrosaur was down in a minute, its spinal cord severed with deadly precision. The lead neovenator's stomach growled and he thought back to the last time they had had a decent meal- nearly two weeks ago. The edmarka jerked its head up, mistaking the growl for a challenge. It smelled five smaller predators and bellowed in warning. The neovenator signalled for his pack to retreat. Too late. The edmarka had caught sight of them already. A deathly silence descended on the forest.
Suddenly a roar split the quiet, followed by the sound of a neovenator shrieking. The pack turned to see their pack-mate lifted off the ground in the jaws of a beast. That was it. An uncanny flood of anger washed over the lead new hunter, and he gestured for the pack to attack the edmarka. The three new hunters looked dubiously at him, but he gestured again in confirmation. All four neovenators swarmed the edmarka and viciously tore at his neck, legs and tail. With a howl of pain and anger, the megalosaur let go of the intended prey and shook them all off. He snarled for them to back off, but the neovenators took no notice and resumed their attack. The edmarka was getting really angry now. He swung his tail at a neovenator, knocking it over to its likely doom. Ignoring the others hacking away at his thick hide, he leaned over the unconscious neovenator to bite… and fell down stone dead. The neovenator alpha let the edmarka's neck slip free from his jaws. Then a searing pain radiated from his back, he was flung fifty feet away onto a sharp rock, and died. His ribs were powdered, skull impaled through the eye socket, and arms crushed under his own body weight.
Back at the fight scene, another edmarka was tossing the neovenators around like rag dolls. One neovenator climbed up its back and slashed at the back of its neck. The edmarka whirled around… and saw past the neovenator. Twenty velociraptors were eating the slaughtered parasaurolophus. Having a deep hatred and a slight fear of raptors in general, he bellowed at the velociraptors in warning. The raptors nonchalantly looked up at the Edmarka, who was covered in bites and being harried by the new hunters. Maddeningly, they didn't consider it a threat and resumed stuffing their little, ugly faces with duckbill meat. With an immense roar that would have dwarfed the roar of an angry T. rex, the edmarka attacked. Such fury whipped up in the megalosaur's veins that it may have died without getting out the fury. One raptor was swallowed whole, and another stomped into oblivion. Three more were crushed in the edmarka's jaws. The raptors fought back, biting and ripping and slashing with their lethal sickle claws. The edmarka bellowed at the fifteen raptors swarming him and rammed his side against a tree. The agile raptors jumped off, but one landed on the alpha neovenator. The neovenator glared, but decided to help them eradicate the edmarka first. The pack worked with the raptors and together they brought down the edmarka. The megalosaur crashed to the ground, trapping one velociraptor by the tail under its immense bulk.
The new hunters ate the squirming velociraptor, turning the dromaeosaurids against them. Four injured 33-foot long allosauroids vs. 13 7 foot long mostly unhurt raptors. The neovenator alpha didn't really think he could win the battle, but they could always retreat. The two groups rushed each other. Just before they collided, the velociraptor pack split into four groups and attacked from the side. For a second they had the battle in their favor, but the neovenators were quick to adjust and soon it was bloody, snout-to-snout combat all the same. Each new hunter faced three velociraptors, except for the alpha, who was writhing under four. They slit his throat and went to help their pack-mates. Another neovenator, the alpha female, spotted the leader lying still. A thin trickle of blood ran across his neck and she collapsed… into a blind rage. She leapt to confront the four murderers and killed them within two minutes. Heads were crushed underfoot, necks snapped and jaws became guillotines. When she regained her senses and the world came back into focus, the broken bodies of her pack-mates and velociraptors were scattered all over the clearing. She had defeated the rest of the raptors, but it had been too late to save the rest of her pack. Then something stirred. The male alpha got up again woozily, but not dead. They were both wounded, but there were no serious injuries. The female was extremely relieved. They ate, then lied down to recover.
AND THE WINNER IS...................... NEOVENATOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The edmarkas were outnumbered more than two to one by creatures almost as large, and in neo vs velociraptors, it was actually quite close. The female's wrath gave them an advantage this time around.

MemberCompsognathusFeb-27-2015 3:26 PMthanks guys! the neovenator alpha killed the first edmarka when it bent down to kill the unconscious neovenator. And TK, to the edmarka , the raptors' faces are long and slim and weak and feathery. In other words, ugly.

MemberCompsognathusFeb-27-2015 3:38 PMAnd yes, silver falcon, i found a strategy for searching out extra detail. I imagine it happening and if the story stops for too long for information, i know to get rid of it.

MemberCompsognathusFeb-27-2015 8:28 PMPerfect strategy. I will say though, that the first edmarka's death was a little confusing, though I did understand it after reading for a second time.
