The monster of Lerna was rightfully feared. All but one of its heads would grow back if cut off, spawning a new one in the process, and the beast was immortal. Even its fangs and blood were venomous enough to kill a demi-god. Despite this, the hydra had its weaknesses. Despite its many heads, it couldn't take a pronged assault well and while it can't die, it can be incapacitated
Deinonychus
Height: Roughly one meter
Weight: 161 lbs
These pack hunters were among the more clever predators of the Cretaceus, using stalking tactics and numbers along with their sickle claws to disable more powerful prey. Its bite was also powerful among raptors. Despite their pack behavior, it's unlikely they could form any complex strategy, as they would most likely mob like crocodiles, competing with each other as well as prey.
Fight!
A pack of Deinonychus stalked through the Lernean Swamps, their leader at the front. He was large for such a small species and led with surety. The swamps held something, he was sure of it. His pack of twelve was unusually large, and could take most. The silence was shattered by a desperate squeal. The company turned around and saw that one of their smaller members had disappeared, just leaving bubbling mud where she had been.
Before they could even ponder what this meant, the water on their left flank erupted, a mound of three, slithering heads bursting from the water, clutching the corpse in their jaws. The Hydra let out an intimidating hiss, rearing up and bringing down its heavy body on one of the unlucky raptors, crushing it under its weight. The alpha male let out a screech and leaped, attempting to draw first blood. He was knocked out of the way by one of his own pack mates, frenzied by blood. The reckless one at the front fell victim to the coils of the Hydra's tail, but the other raptors were more fortunate, stabbing and slashing at the beast's chest. The serpent wailed in pain, lowering its heads so they would take the brunt of the punishment. A sickening slashing noise was a heard as one of the heads fell off. The dinosaurs pulled back, panting in anticipation of their prey falling. Their joy turned to horror as the stump split in two, revealing two new heads.
The Hydra took in a deep breath and roared, green gas spraying from its mouths, choking the air. The Deinonychus leader wisely pulled back, some of his pack obeying. Three ignored the whistles of the alpha and soon fell to the ground, writhing as their throats and lungs burned. The raptor leader was incensed by the loss of half his pack and leaped over the gas cloud, burying his sickle claw in the Hydra's back. The reptile let out a scream and began thrashing about mindlessly, crushing two other raptors beneath its weight. The alpha prepared a finishing blow...only for his rival, a young, brash female, to savagely bite his leg, dragging him off and attempting to get the first bite. A mistake and blessing at the same time, for at that moment, the Hydra dove back underwater, dragging the unfortunate female with him and crushing the life out of her.
Only three of the swift killers remained now. The alpha closed his eyes while the others panicked and squabbled. He needed to hear. Got it. He leaped 10 feet straight up, dodging the wild charge of the Hydra erupting from the water once more. Despite missing the most clever raptor, it had a consolation prize: one raptor per two heads. The male let out a battle cry and leaped. The Hydra tried to open its mouths, but the hooked teeth had sunken into the corpses so deeply, it couldn't get them free. It let out a muffled cry as the sickle claw sank deep into its black heart. As the spawn of Scylla and Typhon, both immortal, the Hydra couldn't die, but he could feel pain and had vital organs. With his heart pierced, the Hydra entered torpor, awaiting for his mother to heal him.
The dinosaur let out a victorious yelp and began digging into the corpse. Mere seconds later, he collapsed, a victim of his own gluttony. For the Hydra's venom lingered in its blood and he had eaten much.

Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe in. -Brom-
