Plans For Destruction
After gaining clearance, Matt stepped into the Oval Office. He had taken a good, long shower and changed into a more official looking suit. The president stood up behind his desk and shook his hand.
“Welcome back doctor,” he said.
“Thanks you sir,” Matt replied, somewhat flatly.
“And I’m sorry about your friend,” the president added.
Matt only nodded at this, then took a seat when the president motioned to a chair.
“The Ukrainian government is all up in arms about this. They want the place destroyed for good, and frankly, I don’t blame them,” President Sounder said.
“I agree. Chernobyl and the city of Pripyat are a threat to humanity, or at least the immediate area,” Matt agreed.
“Indeed. They want to nuke it,” Sounder said.
Matt raised an eyebrow at this prospect.
“Oh, because nuclear energy went so well the last time it was used in that area,” Matt pointed out.
“Look, I understand where you’re coming from, but it’s their land and we can’t stop them,” Sounder said.
“I wasn’t even aware that Ukraine had nuclear weapons,” Matt said somewhat suspiciously.
“They don’t. They bought a bomb from us,” Sounder said.
“Then you clearly don’t know where I’m coming from Mr. President,” Matt replied.
“They already have it and I can’t stop them from using it. I simply felt you had a right to know what was to become of the place,” Sound shot back.
“I think I should go now,” Matt said, rising from his chair.
“Very well. A check is in the mail for you by the way,” Sounder said.
“Like that’d compensate for what happened and what’s about to occur,” Matt said grudgingly as he walked out the door.
As Matt left the White House, he was greeted by Sarah.
“How’d it go,” she asked.
“They’re gonna nuke it,” he replied bluntly.
“They’re gonna nuke it,” she asked wide eyed.
“Yeah, and I know what you’re thinking. But there’s nothing we can do,” Matt said.
“Guess not,” Sarah said disappointed.
The two of them climbed into a new Camaro and sped off. As Washington DC faded away in the rearview mirror, Matt found himself lost in thought.
“What was this world coming to,” he thought. “Nuclear fallouts and now dinosaur fallouts? This world just keeps spinning faster to a new disaster.”
Epilogue
Extinct For Good
The sun was rising on Chernobyl. The Tarascosaurus pair was patrolling their territory after the confrontation with the raptors. Then they heard something coming. It was the sound of an engine. They looked up and saw high in the sky, the distinct shape of a bomber. Something fell from it and the plane sped off. They watched as the bomb fell and struck the ground only half a mile away. The dinosaurs of Chernobyl didn’t even have time to flinch.
