Three Utahraptors, about four months old, are fighting. The smallest, a male, our main focus, is being picked on by his brother and sister. He knows it's a game, but he still doesn't like being the one who's ganged up on. Their parents looked at them, and their mother growled for a moment. All three chicks looked up, and she gestured to them to let the smallest have some fun too. Their brother looked at him, and then his sister. They nodded, and the sister nudged him.
Our Utahraptor stood shoulder to shoulder with his sister, but before anything else could be done, a loud roar got their attention. The whole family looked in the direction, and an Acrocanthosaurus was standing in the clearing. The parents hissed, and the chicks went to hide. They climbed a series of branches before finding the hole they were looking for. All three fit, and they got as close to each other as they could.
The male Utahraptor walked to the Acrocanthosaurus, and the female circled around. The Acrocanthosaurus charged, and the male sidestepped. The female went for his head, but he turned and caught her in his jaws, quickly biting her in half. The male went ballistic and charged. He jumped on the Acrocanthosaurus's head, and he slashed his face with his hands and feet. The Acrocanthosaurus walked toward a tree, and, in his rage, the Utahraptor didn't realize it. The Acrocanthosaurus crushed the Utahraptor between the tree and his head, and then everything went silent.
Our Utahraptor was shoved out of the hole, his siblings assuming their parents won and wanting to get back to their game. He fell out of the tree, and landed in some bushes. His siblings stepped onto the branch, and the Acrocanthosaurus was starting at them. They dove for the hole, but the Acrocanthosaurus caught them.
Our Utahraptor left as fast as he could. He was shaken by what just happened, and his sister's head landing next to him didn't help. He ran as far and fast as he could without looking back, and then he found a tree and hid in the roots before going to sleep.
Isla Nublar, one year before the events of RS
The Utahraptor is full grown now. He was about to go to sleep, but he glanced over at his mate for a moment. She was feeding their chicks. They were about two weeks old. He took a deep breath, and then closed his eyes.
He woke up in the middle of the night. He jumped to his feet and looked around, shaking. He didn't see anything strange, so he lied down and went to go back to sleep. He looked at his mate before dozing off. He closed his eyes, and then quickly perked up again. She was gone. There was no sign of her anywhere, except a pool of blood where she had been sleeping. The Utahraptor called for her, but the only response he got was the squeaking of his chicks, and then an all too familiar growl.
He looked in the direction of the growl, and the Acrocanthosaurus was standing in the clearing, part of his mate hanging off his teeth. The Utahraptor hissed, and the Acrocanthosaurus roared. The Utahraptor charged. The Acrocanthosaurus had a hard time seeing in the dark, and the Utahraptor's speed made it even more difficult. The Utahraptor jumped and slashed the Acrocanthosaurus's mid section, blood trickling out the fresh cuts.
The Acrocanthosaurus saw the Utahraptor's eyes glint off the moonlight, and he lunged. He caught the Utharaptor by the tip of the tail, and he bit it off. The Utahraptor ignored it, having not felt much from how little was bitten off. He charged again, and this time, he jumped and landed on his neck. The Acrocanthosaurus tried to shake him off, but his grip was too good. The Acrocanthosaurus tried to crush him with a tree, but the Utharaptor saw it coming and jumped off.
The Utahraptor jumped for his face, and he slashed just under his eye. The Acrocanthosaurus roared in pain and stepped back. The Utahraptor jumped off, and the chicks started calling for their mother. The Utahraptor quickly went to the nest to shut them up, but the Acrocanthosaurus knew about them now. He charged, and the Utahraptor jumped. He had to kill him now if he wanted to save his chicks.
The Utahraptor slashed the Acrocanthosaurus's face in a blind fury. The Acrocanthosaurus shook his head to get him off, but the Utahraptor held on. After several minutes, the Acrocanthosaurus stepped on the nest. The Utahraptor knew it, and screeched in anger and drove his claw through the Acrocanthosaurus's eye. The Acrocanthosaurus roared in pain and shook his head again. The Utahraptor lost his grip and was sent flying into the treeline. He smashed his head off a large branch before hitting the ground. The last thing he saw was a Tyrannosaurus biting the Acrocanthosaurus's neck.
The next morning, the Utahraptor woke up. He walked to the nest, hesitant. He looked in, and what was once his offspring was now a puddle of blood, guts, and feathers, mangled beyond recognition. He looked around. The Acrocanthosaurus was in pieces. His mate was also in pieces. He lowered his head and didn't make a sound as he walked away, wanting to put as much distance between himself and the memory of what happened that night as he could.
