How to get Involved with the Field of Palaeontology. (Or something)

Now, A fair amount of you on this site, Have always wondered what it'd be like to discover a new Dinosaur, or uncover a fossil...

But, Did you know you can do that right now?

At your age.

(Or any age)

Anything, Is acheivable if you start somewhere.

I present a Theoretical Guide for Becomeing a Paleontologist:

Find your local dinosaur Museum.

Ask about a summer job.

Move up from summer job to Part time job.

Stay at part time job until you know some of the Museums Paleontoligsts fairly well.

Ask if you can go on a dig with them.

Ask if you can go on antoher.

Start Routinely And Activley participating in digs.

Go to college, Get your degree in that field.

Return to your musuem.

Go get some Sponsors to fund your dig.

Go dig.

Repeat all steps in a new town. Become ultimate troll.

I kid on that last part, But sometimes It is as simple as that. Just like many things in life, You need to know someone who knows what their doing, to get into it. Hence why you need to go on multiple digs.

I know Renknown Paleos. Such as Horner and  Backer Have been in Drumheller for times working on the sites up here. They tend to take what they find back to the states though.

Anyways, if you get a Renknown Paleo to suggest you for a dig, Your golden.

(I posted this Because It's currently only been me and Dinosteve on the forums for the past two hours... This site is too addictive... "It's like internet cocaine." COming from someone who doesn't do drugs... That kinda sums it up...)

Well... Folks I'm out for today I guess...

Guess I'll go cook some food or something...

Sure is lonely...

I'm gettin' outta here.

Peace.

Nice topic Paden. I thought there was schooling and sh!t too though. This way seems easier, and cheaper.

Thanks Paden. I want to be a paleontologist in the future. I may volunteer at the academy of natural sciences this summer and I think help escavate a Argentinasaurus.

The giant gate that read Jurassic Park was ruined. The gates where torn off and their where pieces of them all over the ground. Muldoon saw herbivore foot prints maybe Parasaurs or the Trike herd W

Found a few fossils myself(OK, more than a few) and the feeling of finding something is always a satisfying one.

Paleobiology and paleobotany are two of the biggest choices out there

@Rexfan

What'd you dig up?

I've only found some Limestone with Shells in it so far. But, I hope to one day go on a Dig with the team in Drumheller.

@Mr.Happy

However, If you do wish to become a Full blown, You run your own dig, Right off the bat, And skip a few years and some of these steps. I'd recommend going to A college for it.

Horner, Or Bakker... One of the two, Went to the University of Wyoming, As did a lot of Paleos.

Alright. Sounds interesting either way. Something to look into after high school depending on how I do in my auto classes.

My goal is to become a paleoartist rather. Though this HAS some relation to your topic.

I honestly think, it is very possible, and even likely that I get to be a paleoartist in the near future, looking at what happened to other paleoartists, that were just like me at the beginning.

Oh, and thanks to RexFan, I get Jack Horner to give feedback on my art ;)

So yeah. Likely as I said.

Really DS?

Thee Jack Horner.

I've seen your art before, It's rather impressive, I can see why he'd take an Interest in your work.

Thanks you Paden.

And I don't know if he is interested or not, but he gave me feedback that helped me become better. This is a good start!

He said he likes my latest 3 paintings, the Deinonychus, Austroraptor and Kronosaurus.

Uh, didn't show him. Tom is more fiction, isn't really something I'd show to a paleontologist,... that's kind of rude anyway
