MemberTyrannosaurus RexMar-23-2014 5:53 PMI'm not trying to sound like King of the assholes when I say what is about to be stated.
I honestly strongly dislike the movie. There was little to no story, and then they added to it with the Raptor egg sub plot. I didn't get the Jurassic Park feeling when I watched that movie because there was so little that is related to Jurassic Park. Besides the fact that there was Grant and Sattler, what did that movie have in common with the other two movies?
It seemed to me that the Spinosaurus was hunting the crew. In the first Jurassic Park, the Tyrannosaurus appeared to be acting more in self defence than aggression. In the second Jurassic Park, the Tyrannosaurs were defending their offspring and felt a need to defend the area from the humans that had invaded their territory. In the first two Jurassic Parks, the T-Rex was heard coming, there was always the steady booming of the footsteps and the ripples in the water.
In the Third Jurassic Park, the Spinosaurus suddenly materialized out of thin air and attacked the people. Seriously, the thing was larger the Tyrannosaur it killed, but it was only heard coming when the damn phone rang in its gut. The phone was ringing in it's damn stomach! A dinosaur that size would have muffled out the ringing of the phone.
The Spinosaurus seemed f*cking invincible in that movie. A plane crashed into its sail and crashed, and when we saw the Spinosaurus again, no damage to its sail. The Spinosaurus was getting pushed around by the Tyrannosaurus, and when it freed itself, no damage to its neck.
The story was next to non existent for me. The character development sucked, and the sub plot was pointless. A kid is stuck on an island and a man and his wife trick a world renowned Palaeontologist into looking for him. Take out the world renowned Palaeontologist part, and you've got Nim's Island with dinosaurs. What was the point of the sub plot? Look! People are stupid! This guy took Raptor eggs from a nest! That's just as dumb as the woman using the megaphone. Using a megaphone on an island filled with dinosaurs is like cutting your arm off and going for a swim in shark infested waters. You might as well put on a meat hat while you're at it.
Now for something positive. They somehow got Sam Neill and Laura Dern in the movie, and the sniper rifle was cool.

MemberCompsognathusMar-23-2014 6:04 PMI do agree with most of the points you made, JP 3 did lack a lot of the "Jurassic" Atmoshpere to it.
It may have been that it wasn't speilburg directing it. It did have all the needed parts for a JP movie, they just weren't... Brought together right...

MemberTyrannosaurus RexMar-23-2014 6:06 PMSpielberg wasn't directing, there wasn't a novel to base it off of, Jack Horner had too much say. That Spinosaurus ran through the wall no problem. Rexy nearly tripped on a fallen tree, forgot to mention that in the Spino BS part.

MemberAllosaurusMar-23-2014 6:09 PMI'd say it was an okay movie, but hey, to be fair, they made T-Rex also practically invincible in the first two movies. So you can't really be mad at that. I would have liked it more if they had more of the "science" in it.

MemberCompsognathusMar-23-2014 6:16 PMIt was also inconsistent. Examples...
Near the beginning of the movie, when Grant falls asleep on the plane, he dreams of seeing a Velociraptor beside him. The mistake is that the raptor is like the ones encountered later on the island, with features such as small quils on its neck. However, he had not yet encountered ones like this, only the ones he had seen on Isla Nublar.
Fight Scene
- On the part where the Tyrannosaurus fights the Spinosaurus the blood and guts are gone from the Parasaurolophus it was eating.
- A noticeable change in the color of green alternates between the T. rex animatronic and it's CGI model.
Extra
- When Dr. Grant dives in the water after they're attacked, he has his watch on his right hand before he dives in, but in the rest of the shots of Sam Neill, he has his watch on his left hand.
- In the scene where Nash borrowed the cellphone from Paul Kirby, he had a shotgun on his back, but when he fell to the ground, he had a rifle, which then switches back to a shotgun before he gets eaten.
That's just a few.

MemberAllosaurusMar-23-2014 6:17 PMWell those small mistakes are like that in ALL movies.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexMar-23-2014 6:21 PMIn the first movie, the T-Rex almost tripped over a log. In the second movie, two T-Rexes pushed a bus over a cliff. A T-Rex ran through a pane of low quality wall material. The T-Rex walked through a brick wall with no mortar. The T-Rex crushed a bus, a vehicle made of tin basically. All reasonable things that an eight ton animal could do.
In Jurassic Park 3, a f*cking plane hit the Spinosaurus and did NOTHING. The T-Rex stumbled when she hit the log. The Spinosaurus ran through a metal wall and didn't stumble or anything.

MemberAllosaurusMar-23-2014 6:25 PMPersonally, to me, that sounds quite accurate. If that REALLY happened to Spino, that is what would really happen!
Just kidding.

I didn't even know there was a shotgun in that movie.
Last month, I stayed up until 10:00 PM watching a JP movie marathon on TV, and when I was asked if I wanted to stay up to watch the third one, I responded with "It's just Jurassic Park 3, not worth the loss of sleep."

MemberAllosaurusMar-23-2014 6:34 PMI think we oughta start giving more attention to the Velociraptor now. Lately, it's all been about Rex, Spino, Gigo, and of other dinosaurs, except the Velociraptor. I think we should give re-birth to it on this forum.

MemberCompsognathusMar-23-2014 7:47 PMI actually kinda feel sad for the spinosaurus whenever I watch JP3
he seems so desperate to hunt those small prey and yet, eventhough he's a freaking ninja, he ended up failing
Primal King
MemberCompsognathusMar-23-2014 9:44 PMI thought the movie was alright. I agree on all points (and don't forget that after running through that wall, it couldn't break open a small door) and the tyrannosaurs were not invincible like the spinosaur, they were merely powerful, but still not a ninja, lightly stomached, half steroid druggie half total wuss, spinosaur. I agree on all points.
btw, I believe the tyrannosaurs weren't acting out of self defense, I believe that they saw the people, and aggressively attacked, being oppurtunistic, and finding people as easy (albeit small) prey right in front of it. Just my thoughts.

P.S. Rex Fan, do you know the channel 'Everything wrong with ...' on YouTube?
