Nightmare
Scarface bends over and sniffs a scent mark. A young rex has claimed this territory. Scarface recognizes this scent. He thinks back to a time when he killed a pair of tyrannosaurs and their offspring managed to escape him. The thought of being foiled by an infant fills him with rage and Scarface sets out to find the young rex.
Storm, now thirty feet long and about seven thousand pounds, is asleep when the ground begins to vibrate. He jumps up to see what the cause is. He can’t see anything through the trees at first. All he sees is trees shaking or getting knocked over. He’s upwind of the oncoming animal and can’t smell it. Then, the trees burst open and Scarface stands before young Storm. Storm becomes filled with wrath and hate at the sight of Scarface. He roars loudly at the murderer. Scarface, already intent on finishing what he started, becomes even more agitated. He roars back and charges. Despite his desire to avenge his parents, Storm has enough sense to know that he stands no chance against Scarface. He turns tail and runs as fast as he can. Even though he is huge, Scarface can move with surprising speed and is able to keep up with Storm. The young tyrannosaur heads straight for the forest, hoping to lose his pursuer in the trees. It’s no good. Scarface simply smashes through the forest and continues the chase. Storm has an idea. He runs straight for the lake. As he exits the forest, he runs right into the water at full speed. Using his powerful legs and tail, he is able to swim with some efficiency. He hears a massive splash and looks behind him. Scarface has entered the water and is still chasing him. Storm is not too surprised. He looks to his left and sees the armored back of a submerged Deinosuchus. It’s making a beeline for the swimming dinosaurs. Storm picks up the pace. So does Scarface, but unlike Storm, he is swimming faster because he wants to catch Storm, not get out of the water. The giant gator continues to get closer and closer to the tyrannosaurs. Storm gives it his all and takes off with surprising speed. Scarface starts to swim faster too. But Storm has a good lead and is able to maintain it. Finally, the young tyrannosaur makes it to shore and turns to see how Scarface is doing. He’s still a decent distance away. Storm can see the Deinosuchus zeroing in on the tyrannosaur. Then, it latches onto Scarface and drags him under. The two giants battle it out and the water begins to turn red. Storm can see Scarface’s head come up and the look he receives is enough to send him running. Even though Storm is no longer being chased, his fear and will to live causes him to run. He runs on blindly for miles and miles. He eventually trips on a root and tumbles out of the forest. He looks up and finds himself face to face with the skull of a Tyrannosaurus. He leaps up in shock. It does not take long for the truth to set in. He sees another skull a few yards away. A tall rock face stands on one side of the clearing, a small hole visible at the bottom. The memories come flooding in and Storm suddenly finds himself light headed. He’s home.
Night has come and Scarface begins to drag his battered body out of the water. As he limps to the forest, he turns around and stares at the lake. The Deinosuchus’ shining eyes are visible on the surface of the water. Scarface gives a terrifying roar that can be heard for miles in every direction. Then, he moves on. Killing Storm will have to wait.
Storm wanders around his old nesting site. The nest itself is long gone, but the area that it occupied is still there. He goes to the small crevice in the rock face that saved his life. He can just barely fit his nose in. Then, he looks at the skeletons of his parents. Although their deaths occurred years ago, Storm can feel their strength, feel their intelligence, feel their love. His heart begins to break. He can’t look at the spot any longer. Storm moves on and finds a place to sleep. His sleep is not peaceful though. All night long, he has horrible nightmares all of which take place on that fateful night.
