MemberCompsognathusJun-30-2013 7:38 PMI'm starting a little tournament of my own. Only 5 battles. It's giant predators vs giant prey.
Fight 1- Allosaurus vs Camarasaurus
Allosaurus
30-36 ft long, 10-13 ft tall, 2-3.5 tons
One of the largest predators of the late Jurassic, Allosaurus was a serious big game hunter. He shared his environment with Stegosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Torvosaurus, and numerous other dangerous animals. It's likely they also hunted in packs.

Camarasaurus
60-73 ft long, 23-30 ft tall, 20-30 tons
Camarasaurus was a titan of the Jurassic world. These were among the most successful sauropods ever! Their huge size alone made them almost invincible. Almost.

Fight-
It's mid-day in late Jurassic Utah. The sun is high and the temperature soars to over 100 degrees. A large male Camarasaurus is heading for a lake to drink. He is alone because he was kicked out of his herd to go and start his own. As he drinks, he is unaware that he is being watched. The distinct smell of a camarasaur drifts right into the path of an approaching team of Allosaurs. The trio is made up of a large male and female, along with the male's brother. They sneak up on the unsuspecting sauropod. The allosaurs charge in at 20 miles per hour roaring at the top of their lungs. The camarasaur rears up on it's back legs to make it seem bigger than it really is. The allosaurs stop momentarily. The titanic herbivore slams it's feet back on the ground. However, when it does this, it breaks through the mud and dirt and becomes stuck. The allosaurs see this as an opportunity. Their splayed toes allow them to walk onto the mud and dirt without getting stuck. The brother stays in front of the sauropod and continues roaring at it. The other male and female begin the assault. They leap at the sides of the helpless camarasaur. They use their giant hand claws and sharp teeth to slash through the sauropod's thick hide. They jump off again. As the female leaps again, the camarasaur launches a surprise counter-attack. He shifts his weight and slams his body into the jumping allosaur. She falls hard. But the move does little real damage to the predator. However, an unseen force is slowly taking it's toll on the allosaurs. They are in serious danger of overheating. They take a break and open their mouths much like modern crocs do to cool down. It's not long before they are ready to attack again. The male and female allosaur leap at the sides of the camarasaur again. The brother stops roaring and launches an attack. He lunges forward towards the camarasaur's neck. The sauropod is ready though. He swings his neck like a giant baseball bat and sends that allosaur flying. The impact of the fall sends the allosaurs' own humerus deep into it's chest, piercing it's heart. The female is temporarily distracted by this. The sauropod takes advantage and does another similar move. This time with it's tail. The female allosaur is smacked in the side of the neck. The impact immediately breaks her neck. When the camarasaur does this, it shifts his weight and he is able to free his front legs. The male allosaur is enraged by the lose of his mate and brother. He charges forward roaring the whole way. However, the momentum of his charge sends him straight under the foot of the camarasaur. The giant sauropod crushes the allosaur's head like it was a bug. The giant sauropod is victorious and now free of the mud. He moves on. Although injured, he will survive and claim thousands of camarasaurs as his descendants.
Winner- Camarasaurus

The allosaurs lost because of one big reason. They were not in top predator mode. Never in a million years, did those allosaurs think the camarasaur would free it's front legs and wage such a strong counter attack. It ultimately cost them the fight, and their lives.
Next time on Clash of Giants-
He was the longest land carnivore of all time! He has been called the pharaoh of Africa. His name, Spinosaurus. But what happens when he meets a plant-eater over twice his weight? The battle lines will be drawn as Spinosaurus takes on Aegyptosaurus on Clash of Giants!
Sizes and behaviors based on my estimates and theories.

MemberCompsognathusJun-30-2013 7:53 PMIt was loosely based off that fight. Some similar circumstances with a few of my own ideas thrown in there.

MemberCompsognathusJun-30-2013 8:37 PMI'm betting Spino wins in the next. It's 10 feet longer, its taller, it weighs just a few tons less.

MemberCompsognathusJun-30-2013 8:42 PMWe'll have to wait and see.

MemberCompsognathusJun-30-2013 8:43 PMActually, it might equal the weight. Aegyptosaurus on average was 50 feet and around 14 tons, and an average adult Spinosaurus was 56-60 feet and 11 tons at least. The columbian mammoth, something undeniably smaller, reached 11 tons. By that comparison, I think Spino could reach 12 tons or more when maxed out somewhere around 60 feet.

MemberCompsognathusJun-30-2013 8:53 PMFor example, I have Spino at 56 ft long and 7 tons. I think it was light-weight for it's overall size. Aegyptosaurus was about 15 tons. Therefore, about twice the weight. Like I said, that's just me.

M42
MemberCompsognathusJun-30-2013 9:57 PMIf the allosaurus had was in pack/group, it could have done more damage and even possibly killed the cama.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexJul-01-2013 10:20 AMThe more the merrier M42. Then more Allos could have gotten killed, but they could have killed it too. The last one got killed in his blind rage. Allo could have won this fight too. Can't wait for the next one.

MemberCompsognathusJul-01-2013 3:40 PMThe predator does not always win. I wanted this fight to be one of those situations.
