Raptor-401Jurassic World ForumAnti-Rex Redemption

Yeah, I was thinking it would just be stupid to satisfy some fanboy's need of "redemption" of a CGI model of a dinosaur clone beating another CGI model of a dinosaur clone in a Science Fiction movie. (Not to mention at the time the movie was made the models of Spinosaurus and T-Rex were fairly accurate at the time...)

It just annoys me because people don't even appreciate how complex and amamzing it is that such creatures were able to evolve and walk the Earth, all for a sequel just to make fanboys wage war.

If there is "Rex redemption" in the movie, and if it is obviously made for Rex Fanboys, I don't know what my feelings towards the movies will be.

I love Spino, but I just like T-Rex. (To be honest, over the years of having it be bashed in my face and being called King here and there, etc., it's just become some other animal to me. Sure it was amazing, but- meh.)

But in the end, Something Real is right. It's all about the fanboy arguing which is better.

So here is how I think is a constructive way to settle which is "better":

SPINOSAURUS: This possibly 60 foot long majestic AF beast was probably pretty terrifying to look at. Just imagine siwmming and this thing coming out and being all SURPRISE M______ER!!!! And chewing your face apart and maybe even slicing your body with it's claws. And all whiel swimming fast in a river.

T-REX: Alright this thing had banana sized teeth. Seriously. 15 ton bite force. Just imagine walking in the forest taking pictures of the trees and what not when this bastard comes out of the trees and just picks you up and walsk to it's nest to just drop you on the nest so you can be fed to the baby rexes that are still able to f@#$ing rip your face apart into shreds. The point is this giant "chicken" would completely have you screwed.

So which is better? Well, they're both terrifying, majestic, and fierce predators. (Probably). The difference? Well different environments, prey, and different evolutionary changes.

No animal needs redemption. The fanboys can go ahead and demand a sceen of a Rex literally ripping Spinosaurus' head off, and the other fans can go ahead and demand a Spino slicing a Rex into shreds, the point is, you can be like me:

Admit they were borth pretty f*cking awesome.

Thank you for reading.

Sincerely, Raptor-401.

I'm not sure if anyone else has brought this up, but has anyone thought that the "Rex Redemption" being spoke of is metaphoric in relation to JP3? In that T-Rex's proverbial redemption has nothing to do with Spinosaurus, but rather the possibility she may win against a dinosaur/monster even stronger, smarter and more violent than Spino? Wouldn't beating a top ranked fighter prove you're more worthy than the #2 ranked?

I feel like the definition of "Rex Redemption" as of late has been the idea that Rex will stomp out Spino. That isn't necessarily the end all definition for said redemption.

Kind of you to say Dinozilla. And I agree. I think Jurassic World will be some good fun, but I can't see it being a "great" film. It doesn't have to be "great" to enjoy, just a solid, worthwhile effort. I really, really dug Godzilla '14. It's one of my favorite movies from last year, but it's not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination and certainly not a top 10 Godzilla film. It is, however, a solid, worthwhile endeavor.

Now, to answer your question, the original Jurassic Park is a great movie. I see Jurassic Park as one of those untouchable films and revere it in a similar fashion as the original Godzilla. Both were products of a time which kickstarted a new era in film for their specific countries. And both have a lot to say.

Granted, Jurassic Park isn't perfect (hello terrible editing), but it's that (now) rare summer blockbuster that effortlessly and seamlessly blended cutting edge effects with lovable characters in far fetched situations without sacrificing intelligence. Most blockbusters can't hit anywhere close to that perfect blend and use special effects tools solely for action/style over emotion. But then Jurassic Park is a classic.

An example is when the main cast sees the Brachiosaurus during the film's first act. It's my favorite part of the entire movie-- It's beautiful. The faces of the gasping characters mirrored our own reactions at the (then) newly unveiled special effects. It was a brief reflexive moment heavily boosted by Williams' score which, to this day, is my favorite of his work. All the pieces were in perfect sync in this scene.

Scenes like that are why I don't think any sequel will touch the original, but that's okay. Like the Godzilla series I think the Jurassic Park series should continue with an emphasis on fun with a little crazy thrown in. Jurassic World seems to be going down that path; it will likely polarize some people and not be considered a classic, but I hope it'll be a lot of fun.

Saurornithoides,

You have a great point, pal; I'm going to follow you. ;)

Something Real and Dinozilla:

Cause in reality, this is what you hear from people.

"Whoah, cool lambho man! i wonder if its faster than the Bugatti?"

"That building is so tall! is it taller than that one in Dubai?"

People will always seek to compare, its our nature, if not with dinosaurs then probably by phones, cars or houses. We are always amazed and drawn to something better than the ones that are already great. :)

Something Real,

Well, it's just that I'm a Christian, so...

Saurornithoides,

That's actually a good point... The Indominus Rex really is a symbol of that, now that I think about it.

SAURORNITHOIDES - That is a very intelligent and introspective statement. :)

Sadly, its the reality. Humans arent contented to just admire something because of how majestic it is, they will always look to compare great things to other great things, . .Thats why the Indominus rex was created.

My viewpoint on Spino and T-Rex being separated by several million years is different than yours; However, I wholeheartedly agree with every single other thing you said.

Something Real is right, this is really about "my dino's better than yours".  Jurassic World is not about that.  Jurassic Park is not about that.  Even better than coming together is to "celebrate them" separately.  Spino is Spino.  T.rex is T.rex.  No contact because of different time periods and different continents.

Oh, dont worry pal, nothings been confirmed yet, maybe that wasn't the skeleton of the Spinosaurus from jp3 but is just a replica meant as a tribute to one of the franchise' apex predators who sadly wont be appearing in the film, we dont really know, :)

DINOZILLA0439 - Your standpoint is one that I believe would be most effecacious with regards to bringing the dinosaur community together as a whole. I am, however, of the same opinion: I doubt that Jurassic World will provide a more sober manner at looking at the uproar between Rex Fans and Spino Fans. As such, I fear that this "Rex Redemption" will only exacerbate tensions between the pair of opposed groups. What I desire most is for the community to realize that we all share the same interest! Who cares if a movie shows one dinosaur killing another? They are bloody donisaurs! Why can we not simply enjoy them for what they are? Additionally, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus never had the chance to come to grips with one-another by virtue of being removed upon the evolutionary ladder by, oh, several million years at minimum! Therefore, any film that displays combat between these two animals is nothing more than conjecture - and likely the work of an overzealous fan! :)

Well, I mean I would hate to even know it was killed, being as I was actually quite happy that Spino lived in JP3.

Dinozilla0439Jurassic World ForumAnti-Rex Redemption

Something Real,

That's actually exactly my point. There isn't anything to redeem. There is no dinosaur, whether it be T-Rex or Spino, that is better. That is why I set up this thread. Because it's less about "Should there be Rex Redemption?" And more "Do we need Rex redemption?

T-Rex is already more famous than Spino. Just because Spinosaurus bested Rex in one fight doesn't mean that the studio behind Jurassic World has to do anything. All the Rex fans want something to happen like the Godzilla Vs. Zilla fight, something that 'proves' that Rex is a better dinosaur. But the bottom line is that it proves nothing, it just causes even more problems.

What you're saying is a good point, and it's what I wish would happen. I wish JW would just leave some kind of 'Rex Redemption' out and just drop the whole thing entirely; yet I have a strong feeling that that isn't what will happen.

And yes, I agree, I also adore T-Rex. It is an awesome, fascinating dinosaur that I have been a fan of my whole life. But I have also always been a fan of Spinosaurus, who is just as awesome and fascinating.

DINOZILLA = Well i dont really think you will see it die, in JP1 muldoon just shouted "Shoot her!" then we heard gun shots, it would probably be like that, well obviously not the exact same way since guns probably wont hurt it that much but you got my drift.

SAURORNITHOIDES - You are most welcome! This was a very fun hypothesis to consider! :)

Something RealJurassic World ForumAnti-Rex Redemption

DINOZILLA0439 - This is a complex question you have posed; one that I shall attempt to address in an objective fashion.  You ask "Should there be Rex Redemption?". The most intellectually honest answer I have is this: there is nothing to redeem. Tyrannosaurus Rex is the world's most popular and beloved dinosaur; it is an animal that has captured the imagination of young and old alike since its discovery. The fact that one movie displays another animal besting a T-rex in mortal combat does little, if anything, to detract from T-rex's fame. What we see here is, in my opinion, an infantile row between two fan groups ardently proclaiming "My dinosaur is better than yours!". Is it not easier to come together and celebrate these fantastic animals for the amazing wonders of biology that they were? Why leap at one-another's throats over liking an animal when we all like dinosaurs? Why wage war over a topic on which we all agree? Such internacine battle is fruitless and, for lack of a better, childish in its brazen disregard for intellectual honesty.

As an aside, I absolutely adore T-rex; he's always been one of my favorites! However, with the new information concerning Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus, I must say that S-Aegy has risen to become one of my all-time favorites as well! There is something utterly majestic and powerful about the new aquatic form; almost like a great sea dragon of myth! :)

DINOZILLA439 = In JP1 we saw a sort of flasback ( i dont know what to call it ) i think we would be treated to something like that in the opening of JW, i think we'll see armed men getting their ass kicked by the spinosaur in their attempt to capture it and in the end they ultimately resorted to killing it to avoid more deaths, just like muldoon did when he ordered his men to shoot the rapture when tazing it failed. :)

Thank you very much guys for your valuable feed backs. :)

X_PADEN_X = Thats exactly why i thought the bones were recent, because they looked bright, of course im not totally sure since ive never seen a dinosaur skeleton plaster cast myself, i thought plaster casts from real fossils would look somewhat like the ones in JP1. :)

As for the ACU soldiers im thinking there was no ACU at all! maybe MASRANI came to sorna with mediocre equipments and a nameless group of armed men, when they failed at capturing the Spinosaur alive and resorted to killing it to prevent it from killing them instead, MASRANI learned from that and made efforts to create an elite unit trained for the sole purpose of capturing their oh so precious assets, so thats why the ACU was founded. :)

I didnt know Masrani global teased that info about going to Isla Sorna, thanks it just made things more interesting, thanks!. :)

SCI-FI KING25 = indeed! the Skeleton is quite different from the JP3 Spinosaur, but also we could just be looking at minor detailing lapses here, i mean after all we already know how physical features (like size, texture, color) tend to change in movies, for example: Smaug the dragon, he was nowhere the same size when he was in laketown as he was inside Erebor when he first met Bilbo. :)

Also, i believe the Spinosaur Skeleton was actually meant to be as big as the JP 3 spinosaur, the photo just makes it look small the skeleton must be at the far back, you know so the camera could capture its full form. :)

I just don't understand this whole 'overcrowded' thing that everyone keeps talking about.

I mean, in Godzilla (2014) we saw the title character fight two MUTOs... That wasn't overcrowded. Why would adding one dinosaur to the fight be anymore crowded than that was? To me it only seems like it would make this fight a lot cooler.

It would be so great to see all three battle it out. But it sems like that would make it to crowded. The spino showed up on a screen in some promotional pictures, so it's in the park. Doesn't mean we'll see it. Though I'd be happy with even a small cameo. At the very least seeing the suchomimus and/or baryonyx have some cool scene would make up for the Spino not showing up.

Gman2887,

Makes sense. I'll be checking for them around the weekend. Curious, what is your opinion on the first Jurassic Park?

Everyone else,

I think Gman is right, I think it will be a pretty good sequel, probably better than the third movie, but not the the best Jurassic Park film.

Anyone who was on the Godzilla forums during the hype for the 2014 film know that Gman nailed it, a lot of people, even myself at one point, was expecting (or hoping) for it to be the best Godzilla movie ever, and Gman was one of the only people who had much more realistic expectations. It was a good movie and I really liked it, but it definitely wasn't better than ALL of the original films.

I expect Jurassic World will go the same way.

Personally, I'm disappointed that Spino (probably) won't be in JW. I'm most likely alone in this, but I wanted to see the Spino just as much as I wanted to see the T-Rex.
