Top 5 Most Overrated Dinosaurs

5. Amphicoelias fragillimus

This is one of many cases where the size of the animal is severely overexaggerated. People say that Amphicoelias could reach lengths of two-hundred feet. I seriously doubt any dinosaur could get this big. The small theropod in the above picture is a Tyrannosaurus rex.

4. Giganotosaurus carolinii

Giganotosaurus has Spinosaurus Fanboy Syndrome; fanboys overexaggerate its size, claiming it could reach lengths of fifty feet. They also say that it can destroy T.rex in a fight, however, it would be more evenly matched. And as if it couldn't get any worse, ARK: Survival Evolved comes along and shoots it with a growth spurt, making it tower over the fictional species Spinosaurus aquareliga and Tyrannosaurus dominum. Not only is the size BS, but holy Hell this thing is overpowered. It can one-shot a Mammoth, a Spino, and a Rex. It was so powerful that it had several nerfs, but it's still atrociously overpowered. I'm okay with it being the strongest, but they shouldn't go overboard with the size, damage, and health of this thing. And then on Fred the Dinosaur Man's YouTube channel, he did a claymation fight between a Giga and a Rex, where the Giga came out on top because more people thought it would win. This is honestly what ruined Giganotosaurus for me.

3. Tyrannosaurus rex

Surprised? Yes, as a fan of this amazing animal, I am admitting that Tyrannosaurus rex is kind of overrated. There are vast amounts of fanboys on the internet saying that T.rex was the best dinosaur. And while it is the deadliest, there is no best dinosaur. In addition, I've seen one YouTube user say that a T.rex would kill a Triceratops seven out of ten times. However, the fight would be more evenly matched. A healthy Trike can give a Rex one Hell of a match, and can even kill it, as shown in The Truth About Killer Dinosaurs. Plus, I can name some dinosaurs that can injure, let alone kill a T.rex, such as the afformentioned Triceratops (a fight would be 50/50 IMO), Ankylosaurus (Rex would win only a few times), and large sauropods can kill at least one member in a pack of T.rex. The only things that stop T.rex from being higher are the fact that there are many people who hate it, saying it's blind and its arms are useless, and that it was in fact a deadly killer.

2. Velociraptor mongoliensis

This is one of the few cases where Jurassic Park causes a dinosaur to be overrated. They got the size of Velociraptor way off, more than doubling the size of the real-life creature. Now, it's the size of Dakotaraptor steini. People act like the JP incarnation is the real-life thing, which gets annoying as Hell. I've also been given crap for liking Utahraptor and Dakotaraptor much more than Velociraptor.

1. Spinosaurus aegyptiacus

There is nothing that comes close to this thing when discussing whether an animal is overrated. Like with Amphicoelias and Giganotosaurus, the size of Spinosaurus is overexaggerated. Fanboys claim it could grow to sixty feet long and weigh twenty-tonnes. In reality, it was ten feet shorter and was much lighter, around six to seven tonnes. And of course, there's the rex vs Spino debate. Fanboys will use JPIII to back up their BS claims, saying that "Oh, Spinosaurus could claw T.rex to death" or it could "snap its neck."

DRACONUS - This is a very neat list! I do not entirely agree with your assessment of Amphicoelias. However, I respect your viewpoint on the animal. Thank you ever so much for taking the time to share this with us! :)

I agree with the points listed, especially about Spinosaurus. I don't recall reading about extremely exaggerated Amphicoelias though.

^I heard about it in a YouTube video about the top ten most amazing dinosaurs and I just raised an eyebrow.

THANK GOD YOU PUT SPINO ON, OH MY GOD.

Good grief.

^Why? I like it but Hell it's overrated. It also pained me to put Giga on the list, since I grew up with it.

It's the epitome of the word, "overrated."

Good grief.

^And people say that the Tyrant King is overrated. It's actually worthy of its popularity and its title.

^May I ask how a Tyrannosaurus is any more worthy of king of the dinosaurs than a Giganotosaurus, Acrocanthosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus, or Mapusaurus?

^None of those four have the intelligence, binocular vision, or bone-crushing jaws of Tyrannosaurus rex. Plus, its name literally means "tyrant lizard king."

^Do we know the vision of other large carnivores? We didn't know of these other dinosaurs when T. rex was named. T. rex was definitely an amazing and deadly predator, but some other dinosaurs were just as dangerous. For example, the teeth of Giganotosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus didn't crush bone, but they tore flesh, possibly even taking large chunks out of it. I will agree about the intelligence part though.

^I will give Giga and Carchar some credit, they are much more efficient sauropod killers. Slicing the flesh of an Argentinosaurus or Paralititan is much more efficient than crushing their bones, since their bones are too thick to be crushed, even by a forty-foot, ten-tonne predator that can bite down with the force of 12,800 pounds.

Also, Carcharodontosaurus's vision has been confirmed to suck since its eyes were on the side of its head, and its snout hindered it with a major blind-spot. Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rtQPo4HKLY

Well the fans are so bad they still complain about the Spinosaurus killing it in JP 3 when at no point were the movies that scientifically accurate. They also get super defensive about the thing.

Maybe it is the top predator, that doesn't mean its fans don't act like it was a god that walked the earth.

^I'm a T.rex fan who hated the fight scene in JPIII but I'm not salty about it.

I've read comments praising Rex as the perfect organism. My personal favorite were those saying Rex was poisonous from it's "septic bite."

^Septic bite does not mean it's poisonous. I doubt rex truly had a venomous bite.
