Part 3
Shadow's First Day
It had been about three weeks since the meeting, and the scientists were almost done creating the DNA of the Shadow Rex. It was going to take another week, but they were ahead of schedule because they had to make some modifications to existing Tyrannosaurus Rex DNA instead of creating the DNA of a completely new creature.
Two weeks later, an egg had been fertilized with the DNA. The whole crew was excited to see the egg hatch. It was going to be about a month, but there were already signs of life developing in the egg. There were several other eggs as well, but the Shadow Rex egg was labeled 'Project Shadow Rex'. It was slightly larger than normal eggs, and it was a slightly different colour.
Three weeks later, the Jurassic World higher ups are watching the egg. It had started moving about five minutes earlier, the call was made, and they dropped what they were doing to witness the hatching. Owen, being the one who is going to look after it, was standing at the front of the row. Everyone watch intently for ten minutes before the first crack appeared. Everyone saw the crack, and everyone remained silent. They didn'twant to scare the Shadow Rex.
The crack got larger, more cracks appeared, and after several more minutes, a little snout appeared. Everyone got wide eyed as the little Rex forced his head through, then his neck, then his body. It looked almost like something out of a movie where the monster breaks through a wall and gets through perfectly; everything he touches breaking from the force. Then came the Shadow Rex's legs. He tripped on the egg shell and fell face first onto the table. He stood back up and shook it off. There was some muffled laughter from the back, and Owen stepped up to the table.
The Shadow Rex looked at Owen and hissed. Owen held out his hand, slowly moving it towards the Shadow Rex. The Shadow Rex was curious more than anything, and he bumped Owen's hand with his snout. Owen smiled and put his hand on the table. The Rex looked at it curiously, and he started nudging it. He pushed Owen's hand, trying to knock it off the table. Owen moved his hand, and the Shadow Rex continued looking at it. He was interested. Owen brought his other hand up to the Rex, and it backed off a little. Owen set both his hands on the table, and the Shadow Rex got the idea. Owen meant no harm.
Everyone left after Owen started playing with the Shadow Rex. When everyone was gone, the boss walked over to Owen.
"So, what are you going to be doing with this Shadow Rex."
"I'll probably just take him wherever I go. Get him comfortable with the environment. Start training him. Call him Shadow."
"Shadow. I like it. Have a nice day."
"You too boss."
The boss left, and Owen turned back to Shadow. Shadow looked at him, expecting something. Owen picked Shadow up and held him close to his chest. Shadow had squirmed a little bit, but when Owen held him to his chest, he calmed down.
Owen started walking. He went outside, and Shadow chirped when he felt the sun's rays for the first time. Owen looked at him. He was squinting, but seemed fine otherwise. Owen continued walking through the park. There were tourists around, and some noticed Shadow.
"Mommy, what's that?"
"An employee Jeff."
"I know that. What's he holding?"
"I don't know. Probably something important. Just leave him alone."
Owen heard the conversation and he was heading that way anyway. When he walked past, the child asked him what he had.
"It's a baby T-Rex. My boss told me to walk around with him."
"Why?"
"To get him used to the surroundings."
"How old is it?"
"Ummm," Owen said, looking at his watch, "about five minutes."
The child was speechless, and the woman thanked Owen for the information.
"You're welcome. I've got some business to tend to, so I can't stay any longer."
"That's alright sir."
Owen continued walking, and after a few more minutes, Shadow started nipping at Owen's hand.
"Ow. What do you want?"
Owen thought maybe he was hungry, so he walked to a vendor.
"Ah, Mr. Owen, how can I help you?"
"I need a hotdog. Little bastard is hungry and keeps biting me."
"I'll have one for you shortly."
"Thanks."
Owen set Shadow down to grab his wallet. Shadow stood on the counter, and he was curious. He walked towards one of the cans that sat on the counter. Owen hadn't seen him, and Shadow bit the first can. It was hard and made a sloshing sound at first. Shadow shook it around, thinking it was alive. He continued to shake it, and then lost patience and threw it at the ground. Owen heard the can hit the ground, and looked at it. He watched the can open, and the built up pressure caused the can to rocket back up towards Shadow. Shadow was standing with his feet at the edge, and the can hit him in the chest.
"Shit."
Owen stepped towards Shadow, and Shadow stood up and shook off the impact. Shadow looked at the can, which had landed on the counter again, and he stepped away from it.
"Great. This bastard is supposed to take on the I-Rex, but it's afraid of a tin can."
The vendor came back, and he saw the mess. Owen looked at him.
"Sorry about that. Guess I'll take a coke too."
"Not a problem Owen."
The vendor set the hotdog down, and Shadow quickly grabbed it. He ripped a piece off and swallowed. He repeated the action until he was finished, and then Owen grabbed him and walked away.
"Are you happy you little brat?"
Primal King, I noticed your comment regarding who would win in Terrance vs Shadow, and I honestly don't know. I guess that would be up for debate, if the viewers would like that. Me personnaly, would rather not though. Maybe it's the fact that I created both characters and would prefer not argue which is better.

MemberCompsognathusFeb-03-2015 5:33 PMIt's good. It helps a reader find a previous part they have not read or want to reread.

MemberAllosaurusFeb-03-2015 9:19 PMGood chapter, the tin can was really amusing.
I think it's good you include the link for the previous chapter so readers can easily track back to any forgotten details or if they forgot to read the last chapter. I might even do it for certain posts from now on.
IT'S TIME TO DU-DU-DU-DU-DUEL!!!
