MemberCompsognathusJan-26-2015 12:00 PMAs you know the 2014 Spinosaurus Model looked like this picture shown below
But now there is this news about the spinosaurus legs being much bigger then this wimp(20/30%). Personally I dont think those arms can support spino's front body that well.... So it should maybe look like this....
On the Top is the Old 014 Spinosaurus, on the bottom is the new version with SLIGHTLY larger legs. This gives hope to our little spino for standing more of a chance against the Tyrannosaurus Rex. This leg size increasement still allowed spino to stand on all fours, but it can rear up higher.

MemberAllosaurusJan-26-2015 12:49 PMI believe that Spino had the legs pictured in the bottom picture, but it had slightly larger arms to allow bipedal and quadrupedal movement.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexJan-26-2015 12:49 PMWelcome to the forums.
First off, bad idea to mention Rex in a Spino topic and vies versa (touchy subject, we've had some issues in the past).
Interesting discovery, and it does look better with slightly longer legs. Longer legs wouldn't help it in conflict against say, Charcarodontosaurus because that actually raises the centre of gravity. It'd be better against similar size predators with the shorter legs and quadruped stance if you ask me. Just the same, I like this newer design better.

MemberCompsognathusJan-26-2015 12:58 PMThis is not new, and it's not legit. It was considered for a while, but its own creator, Scott Hartman discarded it.
So it's not a discovery, it's a speculation based on the proportions of the specimen.
Raising up the arms leaving just the feet touching the ground doesn't help supporting the front, on the contrary! Whether you think or not they could, there is no reason to think Spinosaurus arms couldn't support the front part of the body.
And why does Spinosaurus have to stand a chance against Tyrannosaurus *rex? They wouldn't have met anyway (not saying anything about the inclusion of rex into a spino topic, there's absolutely no problem with it. This is a paleonotology thing, not JP3 fanboyism - I hope).

MemberCompsognathusJan-26-2015 1:46 PMI am a huge spinosaurus fan but I have to agree with mr.happy9097 and dinosteve93. On an unrelated topic how post a topic?

MemberTyrannosaurus RexJan-26-2015 3:18 PMSPINOREXYFANBOY1000 - Greetings, and welcome to SCIFIED! I greatly enjoy both revisions you have presented; they each have their merits with regards to the manner in which Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus lived its life. I believe the new physiology is representative of an apex predator designed to take full advantage of its environment through incredible specialization! I definately enjoy this iteration of Spinosaurus the most! :)

MemberAllosaurusJan-26-2015 4:07 PMI love Spinosaurus, one of my favorite (Even tough I am on team Raptor) but I have to agree with Mr. Happy and DinoSteve as well.
You didn't really present sources or any citations and this just seems like some sort of random claim. Don't want to start anything, especially as a moderator, but this seems to be more of JP 3 fanboyism topic, if you know what I mean. The new Spinosaurus doesn't necesarily make it a 'wimp', in some ways one could argue it makes it more cool and majestic.
Anyway, I do like parts of the old one better, and some parts of the new one better, but in the end we shall never truly know. As I read recently in a book, Scientific theories can never be truly proven; they can only be disproven, if they can be.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexJan-26-2015 5:09 PMFernando, just because someone says something about Spino possibly having a better shot against Rex, doesn't make it a JP3 Spino Fanboyism topic. New people who are unfamiliar with our past join and post a topic and accidently say something that someone who's been around longer wouldn't say. It happens. Best we can do is inform them that it's a bad idea.

MemberAllosaurusJan-26-2015 5:15 PMI know, it's just the way he worded the topic, and I know most new members do come here to talk about it. Well, I was just saying what I got from it.
Like Happy said, going to that topic is one of the worst ideas in the history of bad ideas.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexJan-26-2015 7:50 PMFERNANDOSAURUS REX - I could not agree more with your above statement! The revisions to Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus, in my opinion, serve to make that animal far more fantastic! I happen to think Spinosaurus can now be likened to a great water dragon - a true lord over the regions within which it dwelled! :)
