the bears skull is rather impressive -- both in profile and regarding bite force.

a ~200kg brown bear bit with 1400N.

looking at fat content and the fur of the bear..i think it will represent a problem for the inostrancevia to deal with.

watch this video:

it overpowered and killed the caribou in a face to face scenario. these ungulates get just as large as the bear does.

look how they perform in intraspecific conflict

this as well, will represent issues for the inostrancevia -- they cannot grapple with any efficiency.

Inostranceviea was 10 to 15 Feet long and about 3 to 5 feet tall and 500 to 1000 pounds. And had a 24 inch long fairly robust skull. The Bears skull is about 22 cenrimiteres. This powerful beast used its clawed and surprisingly strong arms. so while it grapples the bear it can sink those 7 inch cainines deep into the Bears fat and flesh.

tge bears fat will not be a hindrance for the inostrancevie. Since its huge cainines and huge incisors were designed to  bite straight through the thick armor of scutelosaurus which was a huge one ton beast that had scutes on its bac. so the inostranceviea will be accustomed to biting through armor. Some fat and fur wil offer no protectio. while the thick hide of the gorgonopsid would be tough and durable enough to protect it. From the swipea from the bea. And there claws are actually quite dull.

15 ft? 1000lbs? i'd like to see a paper on these figures.

the largest inostranceia skull i've known of was ~50cm long, which woul entail 2.6 - 2.8 meter TBL. (8.5 to 8.8 ft)

and I. alexandri seems to be substantially smaller than the bear anyway (~150kg)

aso, it doesn't take much to take down a lumbering (1,500lbs is the accepted number) scutosaurus -- the armored plating is on its back, leaving the sides and underbelly vunerable. so this isvoid.

do you have a bite force figure for the theraspid?

I. alexandria's 'saber teeth' are situated farther back in its jaws then say, the machairodonts -- so it won't really be of any substantial use in this scenario.

do you perhaps something to show it could grapple with any efficiency? it's legs are short and its sprawling gait, and short, nflexible phalanges would make it a horrifically bad grappler - leagues below modern mammals- though it does have a lower center of gravity then the bear. however, that's a moot point -- the bear can control the theraspid more capably as inostrancevia only has its jaws as its weapons.

and i've already shown the bears claws aren't "extremely dull" i don't see why you keep repeating that line.

I think Inostancevia would win, it doesnt matter how big or how smart they are, it all depends on bite force. if grizzly had a stronger bite force, he wins. same with Inostancevia.

from the member "blaze" on another forum:

"Shouldn't the size be updated? in some of the threads it has been noted that none of the Gorgonopsids were particularly big, Inostrancevia with a 45cm skull gives an animal just over 2.5m long and probably not much more than 200kg. Gorgonops is pretty "small" too, with a 35cm skull makes it just 2m long.

4.3m is simply too big and unsupported, it is on Wikipedia without citation and no one here has provided one either."

confirms what i already figured -- misinformation on the wiki page.

Dude's like a walking encyclopedia.

and, based on this, inostrancevia would...again...weigh less then your typical grizzly.

I've already left a figure for the bears bite force, waiting on any response for inostrancevia's.

seeing the gorgonopsid can really only use its jaws here, i see the bear destroying it more often then not. simply due to the fact the bear can control the theraspid more capably then vice versa.
