“For being Christmas it is quite warm” was the first thing to come out of Gregory’s mouth after he and his family got out of the helicopter. “Dad we are practically at the equator, there’s no way it would be cold even this time of year.” “Phelix you always have to be such a buzz kill during the holidays.”, “And here we go” thought Greg as his twin’s Sarah and Phelix began their usual head-butting competition for dominance. “I swear why we even need to go see the Pachy’s when we have you two is beyond me.” At that moment everyone jumped in surprise, no one even noticed that my wife Deborah had walked up until she had spoken. “Well they are good imitations but then Cory would be cheated out of the real deals.” I said as I surveyed that everyone was there, then Cory bubbled in his broken English “I want see real Dinoswoars.”
Everyone started to giggle a little and we went on our way toward the monorail, Cory was our youngest and had just turned three today. After the long monorail ride and the walk to the visitor center Cory needed a little break so we all got together at the “Dino Café” and ate lunch before moving onto the park itself. We started wherever Cory wanted to go, and as expected he wanted to go to the petting zoo. Do you know how it feels to see someone’s world turn into pure amazement and joy? If you do then times it by a million and that’s how my wife and I felt when Cory was touching that baby triceratops, the sheer amount of awe emanating from him made it feel like this was the first time any of us had seen and touched these magnificent creatures. After we were finally able to get Cory away from the petting area we decided that our next stop would be the safari ride that goes through the herbivore sanctuary. Cory nearly gave us a heart attack when he tried to touch one of the Gallimimus, then our hearts were filled with awe and maybe a pang of jealousy when the Gallimimus not only let Cory pet him. But also began to nuzzle Cory in return, the safari guide threw some Gallimimus chow and we went on with the safari.
Nothing extraordinary happened after that, though Cory’s reaction when the Tyrannosaur let out it’s deafening roar was beyond adorable. After all was said and done we found a nice place to eat and had a nice dinner together, the unbridled emotions that had been that day were going to be forever etched into my mind. Even Phelix and Sarah had been quite agreeable with each other for once, sometimes they were just as giddy as Cory (he definitely rubbed off on them today). Then we gave Cory the day’s ultimate surprise, a front row seat to Jurassic World’s Christmas parade. It contained most things a Christmas parade should have like floats, walking staff, Santa clause sitting in a Jurassic World jeep, etc etc. This particular parade on the other hand had some extra additions that you don’t see in any other parade on earth, baby Dinosaurs. The first ones through were five or six baby Hadrosaurs the size of a full grown German Shepard, after them came keepers with a baby Brachiosaur that was tall enough I could hardly look it in the eyes. And last but not least came the herd of baby Triceratops from the petting area, they had there harnesses on but instead of a person riding them it was one elaborately decorated harness after another with lights, paper Christmas decorations, and plenty of keepers to make sure the trikes stayed on course. With the passing of the trikes meant the end of the parade, and marked the end of our day at Jurassic World, at least the park itself. We checked into the hotel rooms (that we were amazingly able to get on Christmas day), and everyone took showers and settled in for the night.
In the morning everyone who hadn’t changed clothes the night before did in the morning and we packed up our day bags and left for the mainland terminal. It took most of the morning to get assigned a chopper, in that time we had breakfast and lunch, then Cory said goodbye to all the dinosaurs he could see until it was time to leave. The chopper was ready to take us on at two-thirty and we were off the ground at two-forty and heading for the mainland, even though we had just woken up six hours ago everyone was almost asleep again even Cory who looked exhausted. But it was more mental than physical as Deborah and myself were able to shake off the feeling and stay awake for a while, but we inevitably fell asleep too (we could only hold out for so long).

Something Real
