I finally cut work some loose and I decided to do something fun for my Deviantart gallery... and what best than the King of dinosaur himself, Tyrannosaurus? :D

Indeed, I found enough time to paint this amazing animal.

However this piece is not my usual one. I think I've never tried to stick so much to the accuracy of the dinosaur, adding my own touches at the same time... and hence the purpose of this:

I know, I know... chicken rex, right?

Well, there are several reasons I've drawn it this way. As all of you may know Tyrannosaurus was one of the more advanced theropods, so, it had some of the advanced characteristics of its smaller cousins. Feathers, between others. Now, before you think anything about them, read this: http://dinogoss.blogspot.ro/2014/07/people-think-feathered-dinosaurs-dont.html

Now I'm ready to meet all your thoughts about it, good or not (I expect a bit of shock from someone, it's possible :P ), eager to hear all of them in the comments below!

DINOSTEVE93 - How very neat! I greatly enjoy the feathered look you've applied to this animal; it provides a more interesting aspect that I find compelling! The raven-black coloration you've chosen for the feathers, coupled with the russet-red skin of the animal's face, lend it a very intimidating appearance! Thank you so very much for taking the time to produce and share this with us! :)

Good quality, though I do think the feathers are a bit heavy. But good work as usual.

The feathers aren't essentially that long. the feathers are averagely 30cm (15inches) long. The T.rex is just very bulky. That plus feathers, here, you have long looking feathers, although they're not really.

Thanks guys!

That looks awesome. Kind of like the rex from hack horners "valley of the t.rex" but feathered. I guess the arms are covered in the thick feathers.this truly would be a pretty yet impressive and of course horrifiying experience to see if one were chasing you. dont you agree?

It's nice, but I read somewhere that adult Tyrannosauruses don't have feathers.

Sci-Fi, hard to say. I personally see them as having some on the heads/necks, arms, and tails for display. Males having brighter feathers than females.

^I see the adults as having a light down covering the neck, end of tail, and arms. They probably were born with them, and slowly lost them as they matured. However, an adult with feathers on those areas seems very realistic.

it's good & all, just a few things on the blurb there... - 'most advanced theropod' is subjective. more advanced tyrannosaur, yes. T.rex was the end game, if you will, of the tyrannosaur family. we see how specialized they became looking at daspletosaurus & Tarbosaurus. they were becoming more specialized to predate on armored prey, but still took hadrosaurs. - your phrase 'more advanced as explaining why it had feathers is somewhat correct...we have jurassic dinosaurs with feathers, and they went extinct before the start of the cretaceous in some cases. - other theropods, large & small, are just as, if not exceedingly, advanced as rexy. in regards to specialization, social hierarchy, or what have you. 'most advanced tyrannosaur' is a better way of phrasing it....i like it though! great job as always!

Chicken rex?  More like turkey vulture rex if you ask me, that plumage and skin is taken straight from a turkey vulture's external anatomy.

I am not used to seeing a completely feathered T.rex, but b/c it is an interpretation that is based on valid conjecture, I can see it happening.  But until we find some T.rex fossils with feather imprints, we won't know for sure if it ever had feathers.

Still though, having a 7 ton vulture-esque creature with powerful jaws, armour-piercing teeth, and feet that could squash you is a really terrifying thought...

Interesting. I have mixed feelings about it. I prefer Rex with a crest over full body coverage.

Still nice Dinosteve. I remember when you first showed me that image on the PK forums. It was a shock at first, I won't deny that. Also didn't you say that you were also modifying it later? With white feathers and some other details? Can't wait to see that image. :D

Looks great! But dont you think if Rex did have feathers they would be a variety of bright colors or a mix of dark colors used for camouflage?
