MemberCompsognathusOct-03-2014 6:15 PMTheropods are very durbable and can take a beating in then return the favor. The theropod group if you don't know are a group of saurichia( I spelled it wrong) from the archasaur( again, spelled it wrong) family group. These two legged carnivore and sometimes omnivore animals contain families like tyreannosaurid, megalosaurid. Carcharadontosaurid, and many others. These beast are very diverse and have been around for literally 165 million years and they were extremly sucsssesful and there is a reason for that. These beasts were durable because they lived with some of the most fearsome animals ever, and their prey was very dangerous too. They had to avoid being: implaled, crushed, smashed, and poisoned. The y had to be tough do they could survive in the world pic the survival of the fittest. There are a couple examples of theropods bring durable. An allosaurus specimen was found and it had a percarious mark on his(or her) back vertebrae, it had a hole in it that was created by the thagomizer of a stegosaurus. But what was really interesting about it was that it showed signs of healing Wich means it survived and healed the wound and went in to live iboth er say. The second example is abother allosaurus, big al. He had 19 injuries or diseases when he died. He had a broken arm Wich was healed and multiple fractures on his ribs and he also healed this up. He eventually died due to a broken toe Wich infected and swolled majorily. A t.rex specimen was found with a bite on his skul and apart of his premaxima was missing since one rex came and fought him then took off that peice. To put it in human terms, he had a part of his face bitten off. You wouldn't be able to survive that without medical attention. The last example is also a t.rex, sue, when she was found she had a messed up vertebrae and an infection and the beast also had artaritas( misspelled it) it is a plain people always get. Sue had the disease in and around her neck but she lived a long and awesome life. So in conclusion theropods were not only big, powerful, smart ,elegant, beasts they wre also done of the most durable animals. When you think about it, it is very plausible because of what they lived with with and they would not haven been ons if the mist successfull animal groups animal if they weren't..
What are your opinions?

For example, an Edmontosaurus that was discovered had several broken tail vertebrae because a T-rex bit down. And yet this one individual escaped with its life, and the vertebrae healed. But the bite wound itself would have been deadly enough if it had been a mammal.

MemberCompsognathusOct-04-2014 2:08 AMThat is not limitate to dinosaurs. In fact, everything of that happends in modern days too, predators are very used to survive wounds, even bad ones, and it is the same for herbivores.
If you mean a stronger immunitary system, then I agree, because they could have had it, being reptiles.
Otherwise, it is common for animals, predators especially to be endurable. Nothing out of context with dinosaurs too.

MemberCompsognathusOct-04-2014 3:02 AMI just think that theropods were more durable then most mammalian carnivores At parity. I was going to do another on how durable other dinosaur groups are but you already did that. And I agree that reptiles have a stronger immunity system them mammals and same was said for dinosaur.honest to god my opinion uis dinosaurs>>>>>>>>>>>mammals in overall durability. I don't see many extreme cases of them surviving major trauma. The only ones I do see are flukes or people helped them. In dinosaurs a lot if the time the bones will be broken then healed Wich means they lived rough lives and wre quite durable. The only reason we don't see this all the time is because dinosaur fossils are rare.

MemberCompsognathusOct-04-2014 8:50 AMTheropods are extremely durable. They had to be. However, think, we've only found a few specimens (realatively speaking) of Theropods with major injuries. compared to mammals, they are more durable, but durable like a crocodile or lizard. Also the fact that they are big makes injuries look bigger compared to us. I mean, human being can't survive being bitten by a Baryonyx, but I'm sure a triceratops would pass it up as a little nip. Barely noticeable. But, I do like this. I didn't know about some of these injuries.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexOct-04-2014 1:58 PMNo doubt theropods were durable. They had to be. They had to be able to take a hit and keep on going. If they couldn't, they die. Survival of the fittest, and let's face it, who's to say the dinosaurs would have died out had that asteroid not hit Earth 65 million years ago?
