Ceratopsipes,
this beast was a triceratops on steroids. Regular trikes are a awesome 25 to 30 feet long I put it at an average of 28 feet. and 6 to 10 tons With an average of 8 tons. With 3 to 4 foot horns attached to a 10 foot long frill Wich is crazy when you think about it. It had a bite force of 5 to 9 tons with an average bite force of about, 7 tons Wich is like t.rex strength!
ceratopsipes was 33 to 45 feet long and averaged about 37 feet long. It wears anywhere from 8 tons to 16 tons though I put him at an average of 11 tons. It had a bite force anywhere from 8 tons to 13 tons, I say about 10 tons on average! It had 5 to 7 foot long horns and a 14ish feet long?!? This was a awesomely awesome beast that is certainly awesome. It was the biggest ceratopsian ever. And gave t.rex and triceratops a run for their money.
megalosaurus, this thing was about 30 feet ong and 5 tons and about 14 feet tall in my estimations. it had a bite force of 3 to 4 tons and had very powerful arms often used in hunting and combat. it was a very cool creature that you wouldnt want to meet in a darek ally.

MemberCompsognathusOct-03-2014 10:57 AMCeratopsipes is based off of footprints. And that right there, is a reason enough for us not to take it as a valid species. Footprints that have been in the ground for millenia are prone to erosion, walls caving in, etc. This would distort the prints, making it smaller/ larger then they really are. Of course, there are proponents for Footprints representing valid species, and for the sake of it, we might as well compare it with Triceratops.
Triceratops foot = 50 cm wide
Ceratopsipes foot = 80 cm wide
The foot prints of up to 0.5 m were associated with 5-6 ton triceratops.
So if we assume isometry, we get (0.8/0.5)^3*5 to 6= 20.5 to 24.6 tons. Which is indeed a massive animal, but again i'd be rather cautious in viewing this as a legitamite species.
Megalosaurus is a waste basket taxon, but the remains that have actually been attributed to it are indeed 27-30 feet in length, and perhaps 1.5 - 2 tons in weight. It's one of the first dinosaurs ever discovered( Iguanodon being the first) and it sure as hell is a pretty neat animal, one of the ones that got me interested in paleontology
Nature doesn't deceive us; it is we who deceive ourselves.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexOct-03-2014 4:57 PMTYRANT KING - Very compelling! I'd actually never heard of Ceratopsipes; what a very interesting premise - a ceratopsian of such immense size! Thank you ever so much for sharing this with us! :)

Jack of all trades. Master of none

MemberCompsognathusOct-04-2014 2:11 AMI agree with Carnosaur here, you can't base off footprints on making speculations on dinosaurs, let alone new species! I'm not stating it is impossible, but it's not likely.
And I always loved Megalosaurus! :D
