Baryonyx

Baryonyx. by Frank-Lode

 "Heavy Claw"

Length: 10 meters

Weight: 2721 Kilograms

Era: Cretaceous

A hyper aggressive spinosaurid that is just as at home on the open plain as it is in the tidal rivers of Nublar. A species that is hyper territorial, only two were kept at the orginal park, and they were a mated pair. From those individuals, Ingen field scientists recorded a lengthy bio on these creatures. The Baryonyx mating season takes place from september to november, and eggs take about sixty days to hatch. Both individuals guard over the nest, and the females doesn't show any aggression towards the male for this extended period of time. It's thought this species mates for life, though it's not entirely certain. Their diet consists of mainly large bodied fish and small ornithopods( mainly iguanodon); the ratio between prey species is 35; 65.

Nanotyrannus

"Pygmy Tyrant"

Lenght: 8 meters

Weight: 907 Kilograms

Era: Cretaceous

A theropod the prehistoric equivelant of the Cuckoo, Nanotyrannus kills off young Tyrannosaurs with the possible exception of one  and takes their place withing a family unit, getting free food without much strenous efforts. However, as time wears on, the mother tyrannosaur vacates the nesting site, and the Nanotyrannus moves onto another host. These tyrannosaurids aren't any laughing matter though. They are quite sucessful hunters of the ornithomimids and hadrosaurs of Nublar, and are quite resilient to droughts and famine.

Here we go..

As the drought continues to grasp Isla Nublar with an iron grip, the male Baryonyx leaves his tidal estuary home in search of more fertile hunting grounds. It had been a sign of the times, and other predators had began to encroach on his territory as the drought began to take its toll. He had come out on top in most occasions, with the exception of one, of which he now bore the scar.  The lethally potent teeth of a Saurophaganax had bore down on his skull, the teeth leaving ugly looking wounds on his snout and bottom jaw. His shoulder had just began to heal where the allosaur slashed away, crusted blood cementing the gruesome wound shut. The wounds didn't hinder the Spinosaur much, but did shoot waves of pain through his entirety as the gentle breezes rubbed up against them.

The Baryonyx came over the crest of a small hill, when an unearthly screeching erupted in his eardrums. On alert, he snapped his head around in a rather bird like manner. He flexed his massive dagger tipped digits uneasily as he surveyed the terrain.

On the winding plains below the hill, the Baryonyx observed a gruesome scene unfolding.

A fully mature male Nanotyrannus had gripped a Styracosaurus by the back hind leg, and was attempting to pitch it to the ground. The heavy ceratopsian was having none of this though, and was attempting to gore the pygmy tyrant with its immense nasal horn. The agile little Tyrannosaur knew better then to get into range of the sharp keratin horn, and by staying out of range, was effectively dragging the Ceratopsian with him.

With a sharp, quick pitch of his neck, The Nanotyrannus sent the ceratopsian to the ground. Before it managed to get back up, he had pinned it, and was tearing away at its stomach. The dying shrieks were cut off abruptly as the Nanotyrannus ripped open the Styracosaur.

His curiosity peaked, and hunger rumbling ominiously in his stomach, the Baryonyx moved forward, down the hill and towards the site of the kill. The gentle breeze rubbed annoyingly against his reptilian flesh, his wounds ached at the gentle touch of mother nature

But she may have brought something much, much more lethal into the game.

The gust had brought the Spinosaurs scent directly to the Nanotyrannus, even though he had seen coming since he began to trek down the hill. As the Baryonyx drew closer, the Nanotyrannus bared his teeth menacingly. Placing one foot onto his fresh kill, the Nanotyrannus belted out a warning roar. The wave of sound was immense for an animal so small in stature; it brought the Baryonyx to a dead stop.

He assessed the situation, and was about to turn around when hunger once more growled from the deep recesses of his stomach. That was enough to propel his legs forward. The pygmy tyrant snapped his jaws shut repetedly, his pearly white teeth glinting in what was growing to be unbearable midday heat.

With a low, crocodilian hiss the Baryonyx challenged the Tyrannosaur in what would be an iconic matchup on a much smaller scale.

The Baryonyx displayed the orange circles on his throat, leaving him in a very vunerable position but it was an intimadation tactic that had served him well in the past. The nanotyrannus, an old individual well accustomed to intraspecific combat, wasn't leaving his kill for the fish eater.

Using the dead Styracosaur as a spring board, The Nanotyrannus hurled himself over the carcass and directly at the Baryonyx.

As soon as the pygmy tyrant got close, The Baryonyx side stepped, and pivoted. The Nanotyrannus tried to turn, as he acknowledged his attack hadn't been on par, but the crocodilian jaws of the Spinosaur snapped shut on his back. Squealing in unadulterated agony, The tyrannosaur tried biting at his opponent from his position. The Spinosaur kept up his attack, raking his claws behind the Tyrannosaurs shoulder and in front of his leg.

Like a hot knife through butter, the Baryonyx began to carve his opponent. After about a minute, he casually let the tyrannosaur go, and walked to the carcass. He walked to where the tyrannosaur had began to get at the liver, and snapped the prized morsel up and swallowed it in a single bite. He lowered his bloody snout down to the carcass once more, rooting around for the spleen or another nutrient rich organ. As he pulled his snout out again, he observed the tyrannosaur was now longer laying in the grass. Instead, a large dark red circle replaced The Nanotyrannus.

Then the sound of thudding footsteps came.

The attack came from the left; it happened so fast the Spinosaur barely had time to stand at his full height.

The Nanotyrannus sunk his teeth into the side of the Baronyx's neck, shaking his head back and forth, driving his serrated teeth deeper into the Crocodilian like hide. The Spinosaur reared, dislodging the bulldog like grip, and hissed as the Nanotyrannus began to back away.

He looked down on the Tyrannosaur and shrieked, a high pitch shrieked he had used many times to scare off rivals.

This only sounded an attack off in the brain of the Nanotyrannus. He came running like a bat out of hell, his jaws agape with the premise to end the life of the Spinosaur

As he came closer, the Spinosaur extended his arm to the side, and as the deadly bone crushing jaws of the tyrannosaur reached for his throat, He uncaulked his arm, sending the immense daggerlike claws into the Nanotyrannus' skull. He fell like a sack of potatoes, landing directly next to the Styracosaur he had killed not ten minutes earlier. The blood began to pool around the Nanotyrannus' head, after looking at the pitiful scene,  the Baryonyx turned and resumed feeding on the Ceratopsian.

Authors note: Alright, The Baryonyx boasted a two ton weight advantage over the Tyrannosaur. Though at parity, this would have been a different story, as Tyrannosaurs are better at killing things their size or smaller. The cards just weren't in its favor, handing the Spinosaur the victory.

Odds: 65-35 in favor of Baryonyx

Good fight, was rooting for Nano-T. But I understand that there's almost no, way that a Nannotyrannus could beat a fully grown Suchomimus.
