Cryolophosaurus
MemberCompsognathusAug-26-2014 10:36 AMSo this is an idea I had for somthing the community can do as a whole. I am going to make three threads like this and your jobs (along with myself) are to talk about the three main ages of the dinosaurs. So for this thread we will be in the triassic, and ill start it off. Which group of dinos do you think started the dawn of the dinosaurs, the carnivores, or the herbivores.

MemberCompsognathusAug-26-2014 10:54 AMCarnivores. Dinosaurs like Eoraptor, Herrerasaurus, and Coelophysis were among the first dinosaurs ever.
(Eoraptor, 1 meter)
(Herrerasaurus, 3-5 meters)
(Coelophysis, 2-3 meters)

MemberCompsognathusAug-26-2014 11:56 AMSmall carnivorous dinosaurs such as Eoraptor lunensis and Herrerasaurus ischigualastensis and later the various known species of Coelophysis were among the first dinosaurs to roam the Earth. Shortly after those, herbivorous prosauropods such as Plateosaurus engelhardti and Panphagia protos started to pop up.

MemberCompsognathusAug-26-2014 12:01 PMYes the carnivores came first, but some would argue that the herbivores did more to cement the dinosaurs as the dominant species.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexAug-26-2014 1:39 PMWell, everyone else has said pretty much everything that needs to be said. I think the Triassic was dominated by Carnivores because the predators were still small enough to survive off rodents, and there were still various other non dinosaur creatures that were still around.

MemberCompsognathusAug-26-2014 3:49 PMAll dinosaurs evolved from the thecodonts, a group of rather primative reptiles that dominated the landscape up until the mid triassic. From there, a sub group began to take shape, diverging from the thecodonts into swift lightly built carnivores and the odd omnivore.
This is a global series, right? as in the dinosaurs that were alive at that time all over the earth?
Well, i've got a few that haven't been mentioned yet..
Massospondylus carinatus
Lesothosaurus diagnosticus
Liliensternus liliensterni
Halticosaurus longotarsus
