MemberCompsognathusAug-13-2014 9:25 AMSo, for many of us, there's a particular museum that holds a special spot in all our hearts. For me, that's the Carnegie in Pittsburgh PA. Why? It's close(2.5 hours away), I've been there a ton, and it was my first museum. They have the largest collection of Jurassic dinosaurs anywhere in the world and the third largest collection of dinosaurs in the US. From the very first T.rex to the immense Apatosaurus, the Carnegie is a must see for any dinosaur fan....
And this is just a small sample of the whole museum. There's an exhibit dedicated to sea reptiles and past sea life. There's an ancient Egypt exhibit, an Arcitc exhibit, mineral/gem exhibit, a modern animals exhibit, and an art museum as well. The Carnegie is certainly worth seeing! 5/5 stars!

MemberTyrannosaurus RexAug-13-2014 9:31 AMCool. I've only ever been to the Royal Ontario Museum. About a 2 hour drive, and there was a T-Rex skeleton there, pretty sure an Allosaurus, maybe some other things, can't say, haven't been there since I was ten.

MemberCompsognathusAug-13-2014 9:34 AMAwesome place from the pics. What's the third pic? What state do you live in. I have never been to Carnegie museum but the closest one to me is the AMNH. it my favorite one and my first one? It's also close to me: 1.5 hours away.

MemberCompsognathusAug-13-2014 9:36 AMThe 3rd pic is an Allosaurus. I live in Pennsylvania(PA). So if the AMNH is kinda close to you, then the Carnegie shouldn't be too far.

MemberCompsognathusAug-13-2014 9:45 AMThat sucks. Well, if you're ever looking for a roadtrip, here it is, haha. Pittsburgh's got a fair amount of stuff to do besides the museum. The Pittsburgh Zoo, The Pirates(major league baseball), The Steelers(NFL), the Carnegie Science Center, etc.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexAug-13-2014 9:51 AMWoohoo! Another Canadian!
I'd have probably a day drive. My family has driven from our home in Southern Ontario to Tennessee in a day. 16 hours of nonstop driving isn't fun though.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexAug-13-2014 9:57 AMI've been to Florida. Gotta say, Disney Land is overrated. I'd rather have gone to the Everglades or Universal Studios. We've made the trip to Florida in two days. Again, lots of driving isn't fun.

MemberCompsognathusAug-13-2014 10:00 AMThe roadtrip my dad and I did a few weeks ago to Maine was pretty long and full of driving. Taking turns though helps break it up.

Forgot to mention, the Carnegie holds 22 million specimens, 10,000 of which are on display at any given time and 1 million are catologued in online databases.

MemberAllosaurusAug-13-2014 10:22 AMWell, I don't live near much museums, bt I've been to a travelling exhibit, and the Field Museum, which is about a 4 hour drive from my house.
(Also, it would be pretty cool if museums used a few animatronics in exhibits, rather than just skeletons)

MemberCompsognathusAug-13-2014 10:26 AMI've seen a few animatronics, but I agree, they should be more common.
