MemberCompsognathusAug-08-2014 8:06 PMHey there, i was wondering about how effective were spino's arms in a head to head combat? If we look at this pic, which is pretty reasonable, I dont see how its arms could slash out at a preadtor of equal size, unless they started huging!
Because I thought that most preadtors arms couldnt sviel that far up or something like that! What are your thoughts, I think im complety wrong though!
I'd imagine, Just like a humans arm, They'd be able to manuver them into multiple positions, As to swat at flies, Or deliver killed fish or such to their mouth.
They'd use them like human arms.
They'd also use them in Combat, As, an arm like that could slice open A dinosaurs belly.
Life cannot be contained, it breaks walls, crashes through barriers sometimes painfully, but uh... Life uh, finds a way
Okay! Thanks, I just heard somewhere that their arms couldnt be put more than 45 degrees above their usual position.
The arms of Acrocanthosaurus had a poor range of motion, and i recently read the arms of the therizinosaurs had the same problem. Not entirely sure, as we haven't found the arms of Spinosaurus yet...But since we're already in this hypothetical mindset, why not. The new spino reconstruction had suprisingly short arms and legs.
I wouldn't say they really had a large range of motion. Acro had a whole whopping 45 degrees in every direction, my best guess is it wouldn't be a whole lot more then this

I'd say it had a pretty big range of motion, as it could use them to attack, swat away insects, and help it eat.

Ok I thanks guys, and carnosaur what is that reconstroction? Is it the nat geo one? And if that right, that spino is really short!
Yeah, the nat geo reconstruction. It suprised the hell out of everybody i think, it pretty much confirms Spino wasn't the biggest theropod now. Still in the top 5 though, 6 tons isn't any thing to laugh at

Yeah It would probably be considered 4th heaviest
the order being...
1. Rex
2. Giga
3. Carchar
4. Spino
that's just my opnion though.

I think that was from planet dinosaur. AND WHHHHAT! 6 tons and that short, I think It might be outclasses by the other big three! My god, can't wait until someone brings this up on carnivoria!
If it was 6 tons the other big three would have it outclassed in weight for sure.

They already did
that forum hasn't been very active lately though. I try to post a lot on there :D

The consensus over there is they now believe spino wasn't as big as they previously thought...and i'm pretty sure theres a 'register' button up in the top right corner

Sometimes they are, towards both dinos. They say stuff like OMG SPINO IS 20m LONG and 20tons, ONE SWIPE KILL DA TREX! and vise versa! But alot of people are actually very knowledge filled!
