MemberCompsognathusAug-05-2014 9:24 PMBeen a while since i wrote one of these, so here we go!
Acrocanthosaurus
"High spined Lizard"
Length: 11 meters
Weigh: 4 tons
Era: Early Cretaceous
Acrocanthosaurus is a suprisingly strong apex predator of Isla Sorna. The large muscle ridge it sports on its back is the thought cause, though it is still uncertain. These immensly strong Theropods have been noted taking down the sauropod spinophorosaurus by themselves, a feat not achieved by any other island predators. As Acrocanthosaurus is at the top of the food chain, it has little to fear. An exceptionally large male was seen fighting and eventually killing a female Tarbosaurus for a prime stretch of territory.
Gigantoraptor
"Giant thief"
Lenght: 8 meters
Weight: 2.4 tons
Era: Cretaceous
One of the newest additions to Jurassic World, Gigantoraptor is truly a bizarre sight. Looking more like a giant bird from hell then a dinosaur, it stands 10 feet tall and sports dazzling plumage. It's an omnivore, and the prehistoric equivalent of the garbage disposal at that. They take anything from small mammals to large bales of processed "paleo hay". They are gentle animals, but can deliver a killing blow with their sharp beaks, and can kick with enough force to dent a car door.
Here we go..
The Acrocanthosaurus bull rose lazily from his bedding area located next to a juniper bush. Hunger pangs radiated from his gullet - it had been a good two or so weeks since he had a decently sized meal. His attempts at scavenging a Saurolophus from An overly aggressive Ceratosaurus resulted in the oozing laceration located above his right shoulder. Infection had started to take its toll, and as he got onto his massively muscled legs, he almost fell over. If he were to survive, he would need to find a food source, and fast.
Lifting his boxy head to the fresh spring morning air, he caught the scent of something. Something big, and quite nearby.
He began to trek towards the animal, crouching slighly and walking downwind. A large herd of Centrosaurus was located approximately a hundred or so feet away, but the sight of the brow horns sent a painful message through the Carcharodontosaur, a message to stay clear.
After gazing at the ceratopsians for a moment, he turned into a small grove of trees. A few steps turned the bright day light into almost the black of night.
The droning of insects and the small birds was ceasless, but the Acrocanthosaurus pressed on.
Within the forest, was a small herd of Gigantoraptor. They were far from their usual desert territories, but there was almost no plant life on the bordering Castuate desert. The local herd of Tarchia had virtually stripped the small juniper bushes, and were the only species that took cacti as a staple food.
The giant birds from hell now foraged in the trees, their backs turned away from the giant predator luring mere yards from them.
From his position, the Acrocanthosaurus could take his pick. He settled on a smaller adult, one that was off from the herd. Jaws dripping with saliva, the high spined predator pounced.
The crushing and snapping of the forest floor alerted the omnivores, and they took off in various directions.
The chase was on.
The small adult broke free of the forest undergrowth, dashing out towards the Centrosaurus herd.
The giant bird being chased by something with big teeth gave the Ceratopsians quite the fright, and they too broke off in a frantic manner. The females went to the right with the young, forming a small defensive ring around the young once they regathered. Their honking cries were like an explosion erupting in the Acrocanthosaurus ears, but he pursued the Gigantoraptor still.
the chase didn't go much farther, for a small cliff abruptly dropped forty feet not much farther then where the Centrosaurs had been peacefully grazing. Seeing this before the high spined lizard, the Gigantoraptor abruptly changed direction and attempted to double back.
The Acrocanthosaurus was quick though, cutting off the escape route with a simple step.
The giant oviraptorid stopped in its tracks, and uttered a high pitched hiss. The plumage under its lower jaw puffed out with the vocalization, making the head appear larger. The Acrocanthosaurus made no noise, only advancing slowly towards his intended dinner.
He lurched forward; when the Oviraptorid stepped back he locked his jaws into the feather covered limb. He wretched his head back and forth violently, only pulling away a large amount of feathers.
The giant thief backed away, blood dripping from his arm. He shrieked once more, the sound deafening in such close proximity. The Acrocanthosaurus took a couple steps back, shaking his head...but soon remembered the reason he was here. He rushed the Oviraptorid, which jumped out of the way as soon as he saw him coming.
It started to run, when it was yanked to the ground. It turned its head in a panicked manner, to see his tail in the bloody jaws of the acrocanthosaurus. He got up and tried to run again, but this only caused him a great deal of pain.
When the Carcharodontosaur released to bite down on his back, he went on a full out assult.
The Gigantoraptor drove his bony beak down onto the Acrocanthosaurus' skull, sending the predator crashing to the ground. Before he could get up, the Gigantoraptor unleashed a volley of hard kicks and stomps, cracking the Acrocanthosaurus' skull open and unleashing a torret blood. Looking down at the unrecognizable bloody pulp of the apex predator, the Gigantoraptor turned and went to locate his herd.
Authors note: Desperation on the part of this Acro individual led it to desperation, and the prey animal in this case was more then capable of fighting back. Although a good deal lighter, The oviraptorid was still able to get in decisive blows near the end.
Odds: 55-45 in favor of Gigantoraptor
