Length: 11 meters
Weight: 3.5 tons
Era: Cretaceous
A giant allosaurid that is truly a sauropod slayter. It stalks the massive herds of tree grazers, always keeping a vigil eye out for young, weak, or old animals. They are often seen hunting in small packs of 3-5, in which they will take adult animals. Acrocanthosaurus is an animal well adapted to dry conditions. While other dinosaur species wander aimlessly in times of drought, Acro tends to stay put. They pick off the weakened animals with ease.
Oxalaia
Length: 11.5 meters
Weight: 5 tons
Era: Cretaceous
Oxalaia, like the other spinosaurs, is not a sole piscovorian. They actively hunt small ornithopods and hadrosaurs, but steer clear of heavily armored prey. Their jaws are suprisingly strong and house upwards of fifty conical teeth. These teeth are suited for gripping, which is ideal for fishing. The large sail-like structure on it's back is used for thermoregulation, and they are often seen sitting on river banks like over sized crocodiles.
Here we go..
The old male Oxalaia made his way cumbersomely down the rocky beach. The intense afternoon sun had forced him from his favorite fishing spot, and now he made his way to the muddy shallows of the river. The three resident baryonyx he shared his territory with scattered at the sight of him. He was enormous, stretching 12 meters and weighing in at around 5.5 tons. His immense size did come with a cost though, for he had occupied this river sanctuary for a little over thirty years. Old age had not too much of a hinderance to him though, as he had fought many rivals off over the years.
As he lay in the shallows, he eyed a herd of Parasaurs drinking haplessly from the waters edge. Though they were across the river, he could still kill one with ease. This herd, like he, had been around this river for decades. They had served as a staple food source as the river dried during the apex of the dry season.
An hour goes by before the immense Spinosaur begins to feel content. His stomach empty, he walked back to his fishing spot.
What he did not know, is another large predator lurked in his domain, and it wasn't the Baryonyx trio. A female Acrocanthosaurus, of equal size to the Oxalaia and a tad bit more massive was stalking the Parasaurs. Having not eaten in a good two weeks or so had driven the Carcharodontosaur into the domain of the fishing king.
The trumpeting of the Parasaurs resonated in the Oxalaia's ears, so much that he took his gaze off of the shimmering water. A cursory glance revealed they were crossing the river in a panicked manner. He watched as they mercilessly stomped and collided with each other as they began to cross the river.
And then, the reason for their terror came bursting from the Sequioas. The Acrocanthosaurus came thundering out of the trees, snapping her jaws at the stragglers, and further pursuing them into the river. The Spinosaur now stood at full attention.
He watched as the Acro swam after the Hadrosaurs. For such a large beast, she could swim suprisingly well. A few tense minutes go by before predator and prey land in the muddy shallows, the terror quite apparent in the Hadrosaur herds mannerisms. They scattered in various directions, kicking up the sand on the banks and making the Carcharodontosaur vanish from sight.
As the dust settled, a grisly scene was revealed. The Acrocanthosaurus had brought down a sub adult, and with his back to the Spinosaur, was already feasting on the carcass.
Instinct kicked in and the spinosaur began stalking his way towards the intruder. Perhaps he could scare her away and steal the plump little hadrosaur without much conflict.
As he made his way to the kill site, he issued a low guttural growl. In a very bird like manner, the Acrocanthosaurus snapped her head about before finally turning and facing the Spinosaur. She responded with a high bitched roar, swinging her immense head side to side. The Oxalaia stopped for a moment to size the intruder up. She was an imposing beast, but in his time he had faced many like her. He proceeded.
He stood to his full height as he got within ten feet of her. Letting out a hiss very reminiscient of a crocodile, he displayed his vibrantly colored forearms and neck.
Undeterred, the Acrocanthosaurus walked to the other side of the carcass and put her scaly foot down on it. She roared once more, flashing her pearly white teeth.
This didn't work at all.
The Oxalaia came closer to the carcass, mere feet away from the imposing jaws of the Acro. What came next was unexpected.
The Acrocanthosaurus lurched forward suddenly and bit down on the Spinosaurs snout. Jolted, he pulled away, yanking two teeth from the Carcharodontosaurs jaws. He responded by slashing her shoulder, slicing it open with ease.
The fight had just begun. Like a maddened bull, the Acro came rushing over the carcass and rammed head on into the Oxalaia. The manuever had sent the giant southern spinosaur stumbling back, something the Carcharodontosaur capitalized on. He bit down on the back of her neck with such force, it sent them both to the ground. The only difference was the Acrocanthosaurus was still on her legs, and held a deadly grip.
Pain radiated from the Spinosaurs back as she struggled against the violent outburst. He slashed feverently, connecting with the same shoulder he had earlier. Blood now gushed from the wound; the Acro subsequently released her grip, squealing in agony. She backed away, bowing her head in a submissive gesture. The Oxalaia got to his feet and saw the Carcharodontosaurs arm now hanging limply from only a few tendons and sinew. Growling at the trespasser once more, he walked forward to collect on his prize.
He grabbed the carcass, and was turning to the trees when a force like a runaway feright train collided with his ribcage. tHe impact forced the hadrosaur from his jaws, and as he turned to see what had attacked him, all he saw was the open maw of the Acrocanthosaurus.
She bit down at the base of his neck and shook him like a ragdoll. Her steak knife like teeth slicing through her crocodilian hide like a hot knife through butter.
Adrenaline now seized the Oxalaia, as he was now in a do or die situation. He turned his body abruptly, forcing his neck from the shark toothed lizards jaws. As she attempted to bite at him once more, he swung his immense arm and smacked it right upside the head of the Acrocanthosaurus. She fell like a sack of potatoes on the went sandy bank. He looked down at his adversary to see a pool of blood forming around her head. With a snorting breath, he walked over to the Parasaur carcass and brought into the oh so welcome shade of the Sequioas.
And the winner is...Oxalaia!

Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe in. -Brom-
