The "Noble" Lizard
Length: 10 meters
Weight: 3 tons
Era: Cretaceous
Ingen field scientists noted that this spinosaur, and Irritator were one in the same. For the longest time, there were thought to be distinct species. The only distinguishing feature is the small yellow nasal crest on "Irritator" females. This is now known to occur in Angaturama females, and various growth stages of Angaturama show the development of the yellow nasal crest. The Ingen field guide had to have a couple pages ripped out, needless to say.
Abelisaurus
"Abel's Lizard"
Length: 10 meters
Weight: 2.5 tons
Era: Cretaceous
Though they were not featured in the original park, Abelisaurids - and Abelisaurus in particular - fascinated Patel a great deal. So much in fact, that he dedicated an entire sector of the park to the Abelisauridae. Abelisaurus is the largest featured, with a small population of sixteen thriving in 23 acres of lush rainforest. They are a popular attraction, right up there with Dilophosaurus and Allosaurus. On Isla Nublar, they are fierce macropredators. They prey on the sauropods in roving death squads up to six members. These particular Abelisaurs are extremely aggressive, attacking any animal that enters their territory.
Here we go..
Pacing the ravine of its twelve acre territory kept the young abelisaurus out of any trouble. This particular one had just reached maturity yet was still living in its family group. Another youngster patroled down south, keeping a lookout for any potential threats. The two adults stayed in the center of their territory for the most part, only leaving to dispatch a threat or go hunting.
The young Abelisaurus was momentarily distracted by a silvery flash in the water, a small fish making its way up north to the large freshwater lake. He darted in after it, but the small fish was too agile. Instead of a meal, he got an unsavory bit of brackish water. He got up and shook his head feverently, before resuming his sentry post.
Little did he know a mature female Angaturama was making her way to the fishing spot she had hunted had for nearly a decade. The Abelisaur pack had intruded on a territory that had been hers from the get go, and after loosing a territorial dispute to the male, was forced into the nearby caves. She still snuck around to feast on the variety of fish and pterosaurs that occupied the area, so there was no dispute between the theropods.
Today, that was all going to end.
The Angaturama made her way to her usual spot, in eyesight of the young abelisaur. She concealed herself behind a large bush and squatted down in the warm waters. She eyed the surface for any movement. Three minutes passed before a large bass made it into focus. She flexed her arms, tail swishing in anticipation. With lightning speed, she darted forward and locked her crocodilian jaws around the slippery prey animal. She tossed it onto the bank and put her scaly foot down on it, biting the head and killing it instantly. She picked the bass up and swallowed it when she noticed the change of wind direction. It brought her scent right to the young Abelisaurus.
He had already noticed a large predator in the area and had been on red alert. Having not seem it put his primative mind at ease, that is until he caught the Angaturamas' scent. Instead of sounding off, he went to face the intruder himself.
He came to the large bush that she so expertly concealed herself behind, and saw the muscular ridge poking up over the top. He issued a warning growl, backing up tentively.
When she heard this, she turned around and poked her snout around the shrubbery. Upon seeing the Abelisaurus, she gained confidence and walked in his direction. She too gave a low growl, raising her arms and displaying her lethal looking claws. He began to bark, not unlike that of a seal. She was all to familiar what this sound brought: Dad.
Without hesitation, she attacked the young theropod. She slashed out at his snout, the momentum sending him stumbling to the side. She acted unrelentlessly, ramming into the abelisaurus and knocking him to the ground. She bit down on his neck, slowly suffocating the Abelisaur and ending his life.
The warning wasn't unheard, however. The male had already began making his way speedily to the youngster. The female followed suit.
By then, the Spinosaur had resumed fishing. She soon caught a bass, this time a smaller one and swallowed it down. Her stomach full, she got down on all fours and rested in the afternoon sun.
Ten minutes go by before the male could see his offspring laying on the ground. He walked over and nudged him, that was before he saw the gaping wound on the neck. Then the all too familiar scent of Spinosaur wafted into his nostrils. He could see her lying not ten feet away through the gaps in the bush. He roared visciously, and this got the Angaturamas full attention. She was on her feet in seconds and walked around the shrubbery.
The two massive carnivores locked eyes, and then the male made the first move. He lunged for the Spinosars throat but was effortlessly swatted away. The warm feeling of blood flowing down his snout only pushed him deeper into killing mode. He swung his boxy skull from the side, colliding it with the Spinosaurs snout. She took a few steps back, but the Abelisaurus kept pushing forward. He rammed into her like a run away freight train, sending her through the bush and into the water. He walked around it, but by the time he made it over the Spinosaur was already up and mad as hell.
She lurched forward, biting down on his skull. The Abelisaurus struggled violently, rippinh his head side to side and sinking the Angaturamas' teeth deeper into his flesh.
He pulled free with an earthshaking roar, but now she was on the offensive. She slashed at his throat, but only caught his shoulder. The flesh was shredded and the claws had torn a tendon. The already useless arm had become even more so, hanging limply from only a few sinews. She ran at him, but he was unexpectadly agile for an animal so severly injured. He side stepped, and as she ran by he bit down on the nape of her neck. He stepped forward and the momentum caused the Spinosaur to fall. Bones in her muscule ridge snapped with the impact; the pain radiated through her body.
He went for her throat, but by then instinct had clicked on in the Angaturama. She slashed blindly at the Abelisaur, one of her eyes jabbing into his right eye. He jumped back and squealed in agony.
This gave her time to get up, and when she did she bellowed angrily. She lowered herself, ready to attack and this time kill.
She never had the oppurtunity, for the Abelisaurus started to back away. He turned and walked away with his mate, the second youngster in tow.
With pain radiating through the entirety of her body, the Angaturama returned to the cave systems.
Winner....Angaturama!
This one was really fun to write for some reason! With round one of medium sector almost done, who are you rooting for? I'll post the winners for this round and match-ups so far for round two in the comments.

MemberCompsognathusJun-22-2014 5:00 AMNice fight, although I was rooting for Abelisaurus.
Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe in. -Brom-
