MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 4:38 AMMost, if not all the fans out there are very disappointed about this new 'cuttlefish-snake-Tyrannosaur-Velociraptor' hybrid. I know I am. However, appearances can be decieving.
Take this 'gene-splicing' concept. Instead of viewing this as a recipe for creating an entirely new 'tentacled-poisonous dinosaur', try to see it as a way of filling the sequence gaps from the original dinosaur DNA they are trying to clone. Much like how, in the first movie, frog DNA was used to 'fill in the gaps?' Perhaps, this is how they are doing it to this particular dinosaur, recycling older 'versions' and upgrading it with more 'recent' DNA (remember how the Ceratosaurus from JP III is morphologically more similiar to T.rex?). From the words of Colin Trevorrow:
"We were hoping audiences could discover this on their own, but yes, there will be one new dinosaur created by the park’s geneticists. The gaps in her sequence were filled with DNA from other species, much like the genome in the first film was completed with frog DNA. This creation exists to fulfill a corporate mandate—they want something bigger, louder, with more teeth. And that’s what they get.
I know the idea of a modified dinosaur put a lot of fans on red alert, and I understand it. But we aren’t doing anything here that Crichton didn’t suggest in his novels. This animal is not a mutant freak. It doesn’t have a snake’s head or octopus tentacles. It’s a dinosaur, created in the same way the others were, but now the genetics have gone to the next level. For me, it’s a natural evolution of the technology introduced in the first film. Maybe it sounds crazy, but most of my favorite movies sound crazy when you describe them in a single sentence."
And I have a feeling that that this 'one new dinosaur' is Carnotaurus.
Cuttlefish have a way to blend in their environment more effectively than chameleons. And we hardcore fans all know that Crichton's Carnotaurus' in The Lost World did it flawlessly (and god, it was suspenseful). Then there's its name 'Diabolus or Diablo Rex'. We all know that Carnotaurus had horns, and so did the devil (at least in most modern depictions.) Notice that the name 'Diablo' is Spanish for 'Devil', and the Costa Ricans speak Spanish (assuming that you all know this is going to be set in the Costa Rican island Isla Nublar, recently leased, again, to a mega-corporation?) And the first 'Carnotaurus' toy from the Jurassic Park series has the nickname 'Demon' printed beside (or under) the name 'Carnotaurus'? Coincidence? I think not.
Discuss.

MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 7:15 AMI'm not disappointed at all! This creature could be incredibly cool! I do think however, that it will not be carnotaurus. I just really don't think so, I mean it's new as Collin said and further, almost concrete evidence that it will not be is that in the leaked photos of the Diabolus Rex paddock, there are clearly large claw marks present along the walls of the enclosure and carnotaurus would certainly not of been capable of doing them. Good thinking though, keep it up!

MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 7:20 AMsorry, double post! But yes, looking back the claw marks are too large and high up for a carnotaurus to have made them, I can't find the pic right now but when I do I'll leave a link for it but I'm sure if you just looked up the diabolus Rex the paddock would show up!

MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 7:22 AMi hope its not a wierd looking dinosaur but i also hope its not a carnoaurus because there preety small
Carnosaur
MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 7:35 AMi always figured it would be Carnotaurus, but who knows? it seems all we have at the moment is pointing in that direction, but we won't know until the release date draws nearer

MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 7:49 AMSorry if I sound mean but nothing we have already points in that direction it point the other way, just look up at what I posted before, carnotaurus could never have possibly made those marks! I probably sound sooooo mean right now but sorry, I'm just tired. I honestly do not think it will be carnotaurus.

MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 8:10 AMno, i see what you are saying...But who knows? i mean this thing has various DNA spliced in with its own, making it potentially larger then the run of the mill Carnotaurus. Maybe it even has useable arms now with the Raptor DNA...Just my thoughts, i thinkt it's improbably, but that's just what i think

MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 8:15 AMYa, I suppose you could very well be right! Good thinking! Oh by the way, I just read a lot of your fights and they are very good!

MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 8:33 AMI doubt that it's a Carnotaurus, but everything else makes oerfect sense.
Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe in. -Brom-

MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 9:48 AMThe "Demon" carnotarus toy had longer arms and claws if I am not mistaken and it is possible that thoughs marks are horn scraping marks, though I doubt that they are. Still regardless of what she is, a Carno or something else all together, the D-rex will be remembered either famously or imfamously depending on how they pull it off. We just have to wait and see what she turns out to be.

MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 3:12 PMit might be a carnotaurus
or even a ceratosaurus or allosaurus
there's so much possibilities

MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 3:16 PMIt wouldn't be called D-Rex and keep us up at night if it was a known Dinosaur...
Other Head cannons make more sense then this. But I'll respect your idea.
Life cannot be contained, it breaks walls, crashes through barriers sometimes painfully, but uh... Life uh, finds a way

MemberTyrannosaurus RexJun-07-2014 5:50 PMREDTIGER243 - That's a very interesting hypothesis you've brought to us! In all honesty, I'm uncertain of what to think of the D-Rex; though I certainly hope it turns out to be a believable hybrid rather than some outlandish monster. Regardless, I wanted to welcome you to the forums! Please, make yourself at home and start posting away; we love to see new faces! :)

MemberCompsognathusJun-07-2014 6:27 PMFor me, I think this is the best lead as to the identity of D-Rex...
