The rain had misted my forest home, the pleasant smell of ozone invaded my nostrils. Stretching my arms and shaking my neck, i walked to the river for the usual morning drink. Outside my dark, cold cave, the sun was stunninglyh harsh. The heat felt great against my scaly skin. As i walked to the river, the humidity became greater. It was welcome in all this heat.
The myriad of turtles and snakes flee as my booming footsteps signal my approach. The birds and pterosaurs fell silent, for they knew who was king here. They take to the air and sky, fearing for their lives. I watch in amusement as a small four legged, fur covered animal attempts to cross the river.
Bending my head to the water, i took in the life sustaining liquid.Knowing what a drought was lke, i was now always near a plentiful water source. Straightening to my full height, I eyed the terrain around me for any easy prey.
Nothing.
Bright flashes come from my left, a common sight here. The scrawny animals holding the strange devices stare openly at me, with looks of comical amusement and excitement. They stood on some sort of platforms, it was easy to see they did not belong here.
Today, i give them something to fear.
Giving off my most impressive growl, i walk towards them, baring my parly white fangs. I'm within twenty feet of them, they back away stull adourning those looks of excitement and amusement. I take a few steps further...
And bang my snout on something hard. Grunting in suprise, i take a few quick steps backwards. Whatever it was, halted my approach. I couldn't see the thing either.
I approached again, the invicible menace was there again to prevent my show of dominance.
The usual high pitched whine came from some where behind me. i turn around to see the earth was opening up not twenty feet behind me.
What replaced the earth was a small, four legged hoofed animal. It bleated in fear, and started running in the opposite direction.
My stomach growled; it had been at least two days since i had eaten anything decently sized. I gave four running bounds, and bit the animal through the neck. The bleating stopped, but the small two legged creatures with stupifying devices cried out in pure joy. The bright flashes came again.
'I've had enough of this', i thought. I picked the hefty little animal up, and turning to look at the strange two legged ones, i walked back to my cave. Today, i would eat in peace.

Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe in. -Brom-

MemberCompsognathusMay-06-2014 11:29 PMThat was really good. Enough emotion and personality to give charater without anthropomorphizing, giving a sence of real. Hope to see more like this down the road.
