MemberCompsognathusApr-17-2014 12:11 PMOn Monsters Resuructed, i saw how the spinosaurus picked up a Rugops with one hand. Do you guys think that Spinosaurus's arm is that strong?

MemberCompsognathusApr-17-2014 1:36 PMNo way! Monsters Resurrected is almost complete BS. THe same episode showed Spino pick up a 30 ft Rugops in it's jaws and the it's head was bigger than it! It also killed a Carcharodontosaurus with a single swipe of it's claws and ripped apart a Sarcosuchus with it's claws. No, don't trust this show. It's even worse than the depiction in Jurassic Park III.

MemberCompsognathusApr-17-2014 2:55 PMsadly, these kind of documentaries try too hard to get their beloved animal out there. Oversizine, and exaggeration played a large role in how that episode- and the series in general- played out.
Now, for the hypothetical 7ft arms, i base my estimations off of suchomimus, who appeared to have some substantial arms on it.
Rather skinny actually, with some wicked looking claws. My estimates put lifting strength of the suchomimus at around 300 lbs, which is impressive. You try lifting three hundred pounds off the ground...
But, with Spinosaurs, they most likely did not need a whole lot of arm strength. Their wicked claws and jaws did the business for them. Spearing a fish (or small herbivore) and throwing it on the ground, before slaughtering the animal.
My best guess is spino had a lifting strength of around 550 lbs.

MemberTriceratopsApr-17-2014 2:57 PMMonsters Resurrected lives up to its title. It doesn't bring dinosaurs back to life, only monsters, and in a worse way than Jurassic Park with all it's genetic alterations.
While the strength in Spinosaurus' arms would have been off the charts, it would not have been so strong as to lift up a fully-grown Rugops.
The Carch and Sarcosuchus confrontations and outcomes could be possible. Spinosaurus could have shredded a Sarcosuchus, but the Sarcosuchus would have to be almost dead (or severly wounded) to start with to allow a Spinosaurus to inflict that kind of damage to its tough hide. And, a Carch could be killed by one blow from a Spinosaurus' swipe, but the Spinosaurus would have to be very lucky to hit the Carch's skull in the right place.
But Monsters Resurrected over-emphasized Spinosaurus' strength and deligitamized the prowess of other creatures at all the wrong times.
Also, Spinosaurus did not have opposable thumbs, so it couldn't have picked up such a large item in it's hands to start with.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexApr-17-2014 3:44 PMMonsters Resurected makes the JP franchise look like a documentary if you ask me. I wouldn't be surprised if Spino was capable of lifting sonothing in the 600 pound range.
Jack of all trades. Master of none

MemberTriceratopsApr-17-2014 5:45 PMPaden, you have just made the most important point in the long run.
Respecting Earth's creatures is something too many people don't really keep in mind. Analyzing different attributes and behaviours from conjecture is fun, but each species/population/individual is unique, and should be admired for what it is instead of being misconstrued without considering error.
Btw, I am a big M*A*S*H fan, and I watched the episode where Col. Flagg makes that quote yesterday. That line is hilarious.

MemberCompsognathusApr-18-2014 2:29 AMI personally think that it was at 800-1000 lbs.
Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe in. -Brom-

MemberCompsognathusApr-18-2014 7:42 AMWell, T.rex could lift up to 450 pounds or so. I see Spinosaurus lifting about 700+ pounds or so.

MemberCompsognathusApr-20-2014 10:21 AMI don't think rex could lift that much, even if he could reach the object he's trying to lift with his two foot long arms. But let's not make another rex vs spino about this.
With seven foot, strong arms, spino could deffinatlry lift 800+.
Youre fat, and I'm not sugarcoating it cause you'd probably eat that too.

MemberCompsognathusApr-20-2014 6:15 PMActually, it is known that T.rex could lift that much. No joke. It's arms may have only been 3 feet long, but they were heavily muscled. I know it sounds crazy, but it's legit :)
