kicking off hail to the king week with the biggest of the big!

*the sizes listed are averages.

5.Lythronax Argestes

Name Meaning: King of Gore

Length: 9 meters

Weight: 3 tons

Era: Early Cretacious

Lythronax was heavily built and fleet footed. This early cretacious tyrant probably hunted the hadrosaurs and ornithomimids, as well as the ceratopsians.

4. Daspletosaurus Torosus

Name Meaning:Frightful Lizard

Length: 9 meters

Weight: 3 tons

Era: Early Cretacious

Daspletosaurus was much closer to Tyrannosaurus in overall appearance then Gorgosaurus or Albertosaurus. It was a multi-ton ceratopsian hunter, who is thought to be the prototype for Tyrannosaurus Rex.

3. Tarbosaurus Bataar

Name Meaning: "Alarming Lizard"

Length: 10 meters

Weight: 4.5 tons

Era: Early - Mid Cretacious

The Asian Equivalent of Tyrannosaurus Rex. Tarbosaurus was the largest carnivore in its area, next to the beast coming in at number 2....

2. Zhuchengtyrannus Magnus

Name Meaning: Zhucheng Tyrant"

Length: 11-12 meters

Weight: 6 tons

Era: Early - Mid Cretacious

Zhuchengtyrannus stalked the asian continent at the same place and time as Tarbosaurus. It has been debated that these creatures are one in the same. However, mainstream paleontology points out several anotomical differences to provide evidence they are distinct animals

1. Tyrannosaurus Rex

Name Meaning: Tyrant Lizard King

Length: 13 meters

Weight: 7 tons

Tyrannosaurus is the most recognizable dinosaur to ever live. He has been featured in all 3 JP films, and is shown to be quite the beast. One of the largest land carnivores to ever live, with the exception of Spinosaurus.

Good list. By largest, you are reffering to length and height I'm assuming. Let's not forget that study by Andrea Cau that states Spino was 55% LIGHTER than the King.

true, but i've read some stuff that there were fragmentary spino remains pointing to a larger animal...for the time being though...You are correct sir.

There are also people who think Spino was much larger and more powerful than what it likely was. Fragmentary remains may be one of the most annoying things becase you can't get much info out of it. "This thing had a seven foot long skull, it must be huge!" Keep in mind that there are proportian differences among the same species (for example, one Rex had a big head and small something else, while another had big feet, and so on).

Okay, cool list! Now MrHappy, this is a sole tyrannosaur discussion. You are starting to change it. Not into war, but more like radioactive grounds. still as dangerous, if only by unseen things. I've always though Tarbo was bigger than Z-tyrannus, but I respect what you think. (Also, magnus is my favorite species name. Its so freakin cool!)

I personally think of Tarbosaurus and Zhuchengtyrannus being equal in weight. Anyway, awesome list. I definitely agree (even though there isn't a lot to agree upon).

Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe in. -Brom-

Sorry for bringing Spino into this more than was needed, just making a point.

Tarbosaurus has gotten a downgrade when it comes to size, actually not the 40 foot, 6 ton animal we once thought.

@Smaug, sure thing, after Tyrannosaur week wraps up i can definetly do that! :)

And Mr. Happy, i know. One of the things that irritates the hell out of me is these paleontologists finding fragmentary remains of 'something' huge, and automatically putting it high up on that list. You don't have much. and that's one heck of a guess...but to each his own i guess.

I put Tarbosaurus at 10-12 meters long and 4-6 tons and Z-Tyrannus at 11-12 meters long and 4-5 tons personally.
