Length: 6.25 meters
Weight: 3 tons
Height: 1.7 meters
Era:Mid- Late Cretacious
Being the equivalent of an armored car, Ankylosaurus has no need for herds. They are solitary creatures that spend most of their days grazing at shrubs and low hanging trees. When they are born, these animals stick with their siblings for the better part f 10 weeks, until they are large enough to stick it out on their own. The mother abandons the eggs as soon as she lays them, much like the modern day sea turtle. They are well adapted to dry conditions, and rarely live their territory in search of food or water. Ankylosaurus has a dark brpwn underbelly, and a lush green outer 'shell'.
Triceratops
Lenght: 9 meters
Weight: 7 tons
Height: 2 meters
Era: mid- late Cretacious
These horned dinosaurs roam in large herds. Most of the herd comprises of family, and because of this, the animals are very tightly knit. Only the maturing males entering Musth are forced to leave. These are the animals that often become prey, along with the sick, old, and injured. However, these animals can take care of themselves. One mature female was seen goring a Sauroniops to death with apparent ease. Triceratops has a tan body, with blue and red accents on the frill.
And...Begin..
7 days after impact
Soot and ash cloud the darkened skies of Cretacious montana. molten rock falls from the sky, a harbinger of death. Corpses litter the valleys, block the once life substaining rivers. The water is undrinkable. The occasional pterosaur falls limply from the sky.
This is the land the old male Ankylosaurus once called home. In his advanced age, he had seen it all. Nothing like this. Nothing ever like this. He walks gingerly through his valley home, and comes across the body of a Nanotyrannus. The one visible eye frozen in a state of fear, the mouth agape in defiance.
Hunger was getting the best of the old beast. The foliage had been choked, devoid of the life giving sun. The once lush vegitation is now reduced to grey husks. A sign of the times.
After some time and struggle, the Ankylosaur reaches the mouth of a cave. His cave. He remembered there were some ferns, and hopefully they were untouched by the ash. He walks in, and recieves the shock of his life.
The bellow of an unknown animal echoes throughout the darkened cave. Startled, the old animal hunkers down to the ground.
The animal rushes towards the cave entrance, and the Ankylosaur immidiately knows what it is.
The young triceratops bellows again, pawing and stamping the ground like a mad bull. It's not that old, perhaps just reaching maturity due to its smaller size.
Still in the squatted position, the Ankylosaur bellows a response, and swings his tail club around. A warning to the young animal.
Seemingly unfazed, the Triceratops charges. He attempts to flip the armored tank.
A searing pain ripples through the Ankylosaurs body, and he looks downn. The right brow horn of the Ceratopsian had penetrated the thick skin on his left front leg.
He grunts, and swings his massive bony club towards his attacker. The Ceratopsian seemed to have no idea of risk, and had a crazed look in its large brown eyes. The young animal charged again, pawing the ground like an angry rhino.]
The ankylosaur was quicker this time.
He squatted low to the ground, the horns clashed with armor and made a dull thud that echoed for miles.
The young triceratops reeled backwards, bellowing in anger.
The thundering foot steps caught both animals off guard.
Both animals turned towards a grove of burnt out trees, already knowing the monstrosity lurking behind them.
The attack came from the left.
The female Tyrannosaurus came sprinting from a large rocky outcrop. The Triceratops was too late to react. The Tyrant lizard took four bounding steps, and locked her jaws onto the vunerable neck. The Shriek of agony was cut off with a sickening crunch. The male Tyrannosaurus let out an echoing roar, walking straight for the Ankylosaur. Instinctly, the vegitarian hunkered low to the ground. Leaving no means of attack for the Tyrannosaur.
He didn't bother.
The freshly spilled ceratopsian blood was the focus of his attention. He walked past the armored tank, and began to feast with his mate. The old male Ankylosaur took his chance. He hurried into his cave, and rested. It had been a trying week for the old beast..
Winner...Ankylosaurus!
Well, you could say the Tyrannosaur pair won....But the Ankylosaurus lived, the Triceratops...got slaughtered.

MemberCompsognathusApr-12-2014 3:25 AMGood fight. I was rooting for Triceratops, but not even a Triceratops would be able to stand it's ground against a pair of Tyrannosaurs.
Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe in. -Brom-

MemberTyrannosaurus RexApr-12-2014 4:00 AMGood fight. Nice work throwing in the Tyrannosaurus pair. I highly doubt that a herbivore vs herbivore fight would be very entertaining unless a carnivore was thrown into the mix. That's just me though.
Jack of all trades. Master of none

MemberCompsognathusApr-12-2014 4:52 AMGreat fight! I was wondering why the 2 herbivores will fight I was rooting for triceratops!

MemberCompsognathusApr-12-2014 9:19 AMthis one was a bit difficult to write. Two herbivores...would just not fight for no reason. So i tied the asteroid impact and lack of food together, along with the young animal...and bam! we got something...glad you guys liked it so much!

MemberCompsognathusApr-12-2014 12:44 PMGreat fight, from the start I was rooting for Tyran... Tricer.... Ankylosaurus.
Yeah, let's say I was rooting for Ankylosaurus :P
And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one imagining that in the background of this fight.

MemberTriceratopsApr-12-2014 8:09 PMCarnosaur, thank you for this fight and considering my suggestion.
Here are my reasons for suggesting an all-herbovire fight, and specifically Ankylo vs Trike.
1. A change from the all-carnivore battles. I love those fights, but I see no reason why the rare herbivore fight can't be posted.
2. Some of the most dangerous fights (in my opinion) are between herbivores of different species. I have seen some brutal elephant-rhino fights, and Ankylosaurus and Triceratops were the heavy-weight herbivores of the Cretaceous Period.
3. Ankylosaurus has the toughest armour and a lethal weapon, but Triceratops is the larger creature, with a tough beak and horns that could go through flesh like a hot knife through butter. I wanted to suggest a battle in which it was armament vs armour. I wanted to see how those hrons would hold up against the tank armour and club.
4. I remember hearing Dr Bakker say that Triceratops was the most dangerous Cretaceous herbivore because of it's size and head. I agree, but when it comes to which one has the fewest weaknesses and the hardest to kill, I gotta go with Ankylosaurus. All of Triceratops' main weapons are up front, so once a T-rex gets around the head, the Trike is dead meat. But with an Ankylosaurus, the enitre body (except for the underside) is covered in tough armour, and all it has to do is get low to the ground and swing it's club at a Tyrannosaurus when it's close enough. So while Triceratops may have been the most dangerous, Ankylosaurus was definitely the toughest.
And yes, herbivores need a VERY good reason to fight each other. The breeding season and limited resources like water or territory are the usual reasons, so you are justified for the context of the fight.
My one complaint is that the Tyrannosaurus pair came in too early. I wanted both the Ankylo and Trike to do some real damage before one of them was picked off.
Either way, this was a well written fight, and I'm not complaining because I didn't write this fight (although I might in the future), so I have given a critique.

MemberCompsognathusApr-12-2014 10:43 PMYeah, i had written it out to where anky took the brow horn off with his tail...but i scratched it. The Tyrannosaurus pair was also a last minute addition, for some dramatic effect ;)
Glad you liked it, man. I enjoyed writing this, considering doing another like it soon.

MemberCompsognathusNov-07-2014 3:32 PMwell when dr bakker said trike was the most dangerous herbivore he meant maximus although horridus is good too good fight was rooting for anky and very intense
