The discoery was made when Christophe Hendrickx, a Ph.D. student at the New University of Lisbon in Portugal, discovered the giant while studying bones believed to belong to Torvosaurus tanneri, a related species that lived in North America's Rocky Mountain region around the same time
T. gurneyi was similar overall in size to T. tanneri, but the newfound animal had heavily muscled forearms with formidable claws, thick legs, and elongated skulls that allowed for a devastating bite. As Thomas Holtz put it " T. Gurneyi was a big bruiser predator - using brute strength instead of speed and ambush to kill its prey."
While not the giant Torvosaurus from portugal we were all expectng, it's always nice to see a new large theropod discovery.

Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe in. -Brom-

MemberCompsognathusMar-06-2014 11:15 AMvery interesting, what's dissapointing is the fact this isn't the enormous 13 meter species that was thought to reign from portugal
