Aerosteon Riocoloradense
Length: 30 feet (9 meters)
Weight: 2 tons
Era: Late Cretaceous
Location: South America
This Allosauroid has a special respiratory system which is very similar to that of modern birds and allows him to be a very enduring lond distance runner. They primarily hunt Ornithomimids and smaller Hadrosaurids. They can out run most Hadrosaurs and they are more enduring than Ornithomimids. These rather light weight carnivores tire their prey out by chasing after it and then deliver the final blow when their prey is too weak to fight back.
Utahraptor Ostrommaysorum
Length: 23 feet (7 meters)
Weight: 0,5 tons
Era: Early Cretaceous
Location: North America
Because it's a relatively primitive Dromaeosaur it doesn't have any feathers when in adulthood. The chicks however have a downy coat of feathers to keep them warm. They are incredibly fast for their size and just as vicious. While their jaws are nothing special, they have the trademark raptor-claw and it can grow up to 12 inches or 30.5 centimeters long. They live and hunt in small packs. They jump on the back of their victim and then try to injure the spinal cord, the throat or, if they can't get on the back, the soft underbelly.
Fight!
A herd of Tenontosaurus is following a stream, that comes from the main river and ends in the ocean, through a prairie. They are a rather small herd only consisting of 12 Tenontosaurs. They decide to stop by a small branch of the stream that ends in a dead end. It is only a couple of meters away from the stream and there are a lot of trees and ferns. A perfect hunting ground.
He instinctively bucks and notices that something fell off. he turns around and is surprised at what he sees. It's reminiscent of a Deinonychus, but it's not feathered, it has a slightly different scent and is a lot bigger. The rest of the herd scatters. he was about to join them because the predator was knocked out temporarily, but he felt that same sharp pain like he did before.
He looked up and the last thing he saw was the mate of this Deinonychus-type thing, jumping down from the tree they were hiding in and thrusting it's toe claw into his skull.
The male regained consciousness and watched as his mate was gourging herself in the dead Hadrosaur. He firmly stood by, waiting for his mate to finish eating. He knew that she wouldn't tolerate him eating right away since it was her kill. The female was finally done and the male now got his fair share of meat.
What they didn't know was that something had smelled the corpse and was coming their way. The female jerked her head up and sniffed the air, she couls smell blood and rotting meat, it was either a corpse or another predator. When she noticed that the scent was growing stronger she was sure.
She climbed bach up into the tree. The male lied down next to the corpse and pretended to take a nap. Only minutes after he had started his *nap* a large carnivore came to the small river branch. It was an Aerosteon. He noticed the *sleeping* Utahraptor and tried to sniff a possible packmate out, but the scent of the rotting meat was too strong.
He decided to not take any risks and kill the male. He was about to crush it's skull by stepping on it when suddenly a loud hiss could be heard. That was the signal. The male pulled his head back and then headbutted the Aerosteon. The large Allosaur was very confused but he still had his priorities straight. First, steal the carcass. Second, if worst comes to worst, kill the Utahraptor and try to run away before the Utahraptors' packmates find him.
He grabbed the corpse and was about to run away, but it was too heavy and he couldn't run as fast as he'd wish too and, a lot worse, the female Utahraptor had jumped on his back and was raking her claws across his back. He slammed against a tree. She jumped off and landed without a problem. Now both Utahraptors were hissing at the larger Aerosteon. Behind him were some trees blocking him off and in front of him were two Utahraptors ready to rip him apart.
He dropped the heavy Tenontosaurus and faked an attack at the male, they both fell for it and the Aerosteon ran past them. Now he could run away if he wanted to. But he wanted the carcass and he also had a bone to pick with them, after all the female had almost killed him. But it was relaxing to know that he could escape if they were to overpower him.
The two Utahraptors had already figured out a plan. The male lunged at the Aerosteon, lied down and crawled behind the Aerosteon as fast as he could. The confused Allosaur turned around to kill the Utahraptor, completely ignoring the female. The Aerosteon snapped at the Utahraptor and barely missed it. He kept trying to bite the Aerosteon, but the Utahraptor was just too quick and avoided the attacks.
Then the Aerosteon fell down under the weight of the female which had jumped on to him. The Aerosteon rolled over, the female jumped away so that she wasn't crushed, but she didn't expect the Aerosteon to react quickly enough and kick her at full force. She landed about 5 meters away from the Aerosteon. She died from the impact and the male was extremely angry now.
The Aerosteon tried to regain his footing, but then the Utahraptor jumped on his back and pushed his toe claws deeply into the back of the Aerosteon. The Aerosteon screeched in pain and rolled over to crush the Utahraptor. The male was about to jump away, but then he realised that his toe claws were so deeply embedded that he could'nt pull them out.
The Aerosteon rollod over and then he stood up and looked down. Under him was the male. His torso, tail and head were still intact but his legs were completely crushed, to the point where the Utahraptor couldn't move anymore. The Utahraptor was sure that he would die soon and didn't even fight back as the Aerosteon grabbed his neck. In his last moments he looked at his dead mate. The emotional pain was just as bad, if not even worse, than the pain caused by the Aerosteon which was sinking his teeth deep into the flesh of the Utahraptor. With a loud crunch the Utahraptor's pain stopped. The Aerosteon released the dead male's body from his jaws and roared loudly.
Winner: Aerosteon Riocoloradense
