Thorn's Life: 65 Million Years Later Chapter 21

The First Humans

About eighteen years after the bombing, Thorn and Muldoon were still alive. Muldoon was looking at Thorn, wondering how she was still alive, and Thorn was doing the same thing. "I don't how old you were when you died sixty five million years ago, but I know you weren't this old. What are you now anyway? Fifty?"

Thorn looked at him, confused, and Muldoon continued talking. "Let's see you were cloned in 1963, this is about 2013, so yeah, fifty." They looked around, Thorn ready to go hunting, and then they heard something in the air. They looked up and saw helicopters. Thorn growled at them, remembering the last time she saw aircraft, the bombing. "Rexy, they're InGen helicopters. We're going to be ok, let's go see where they are going." Muldoon grabbed his guns and mounted, and Thorn walked towards the helicopters.

When they got there, Thorn walked out of the tree line, not thinking anything of what they could do to her. The men heard the steady booming of her footsteps, and felt vibrations in the ground with every step. They watched Rexy come out if the tree line, and they all pointed their assault rifles, standard issue M16s, a modern version of the M4, at Thorn, not seeing Muldoon.

"Rexy, stop! Hold your fire men!" Thorn lied down, and Muldoon climbed off her back to talk to the InGen people.

"Set your weapon down and get on your knees!" Muldoon did as he was told, and the men went over to him. "Who are you? How long have you been here? What are you doing here?" "I'm Robert Muldoon, I've been here since the fall of the park back in 1993, and I don't know how to answer your last question, surviving I guess." You're Robert Muldoon? You're the guy that John was always going on about, how great you are at your job, and how well you understand carnivores." "I guess I am. You are?" "I'm one of the men hired by John Hammond to clear the area of any dinosaurs so that construction of the park can begin." "He's building a new park? Really?" "Yeah. I thought the same thing when I heard about the original park's failure." "What do you mean by clearing any dinosaurs out of the area?" "Scaring them off mostly, killing if they present enough of a threat."

A sudden growl of confusion from Thorn got everyone's attention, and she watched as they all pointed guns at her. "Lower your weapons, she's just confused." "How can you tell that she's confused and not about to kill us all?" "I've lived with her for the past twenty years. She's nearly died defending me." "Are you serious? A T-Rex risking life and limb for a human? And I thought you were sane." "I am sane. She is friendly, and I wouldn't be here talking to you right now if it wasn't for her." "Sure, what's next? She understands English?" All the men started laughing, and Muldoon continued talking. "You all saw me ride in on her, didn't you? And you heard me tell her to stop, and she did, right?" One of the men looked at their leader and said, "He's got a point. Maybe the beast does understand, maybe she is friendly." "Perhaps, alright Mr. Muldoon, prove it, prove she's friendly."

"Rexy, come here!" Thorn stood up and walked to Muldoon, being careful not to step on any of the people. "Nice. Can she do anything else?" "Rexy, go over there." Thorn went to where Muldoon pointed, one of the old Explorers. "Now attack!" All the men freaked out a bit and watched as Thorn destroyed the old Explorer. "Ok, so she understands basic commands, interesting. Well, let's get going, it seems as though the only dinosaur in the area is Rexy the friendly Tyrannosaurus. Robert, come with us."
