The Dwarf Dragon - Chapter 7

I don't have very much to say, apart from "Happy Dinosaur Day!" and sorry for such a few chapters in a single month. My next stories will be actually fully written BEFORE posted.

”With new friends, come also new foes”

The Telmatosaurus young raised his head. He was the only hatched baby in a group of seven, and it was alone. With the large eyes wide open, he was looking for a possible treath, rotating his head in different angles. Then, all of a sudden, a white figure sealed from a nearby tree, and with striking force, skewred the baby’s head with one of the two sickle-claws.
A victory roar, and then, silence.

Brighteyes was enjoying his meal under the shadow of a tree, in his new hiding, in the middle of his territory. He just killed a baby Telmatosaurus, and was eating now hungry. Several weeks have past from the floods incident, and Brighteyes was now groing stronger and stronger, putting up the lost weight. Since then, he managed to survive, and to claim that portion of land, his own territory, while his wounds started even to heal.

However, his psichic wounds left by the Terror, were much, much harder to heal.

He still was very angry, and felt a big hate toward him. He knew one day he will take his revenge, but he knew also that day was still away. He had to train, and to become a more skilled hunter and killer. He had a long way still to go. And until then, his first goal was to survive and thrive in his new territory.

It was all up to him.

The sub-adult Balaur was still eating when he heard a strange noise. It was coming from the front bushes, and it was a small dinosaur. Brighteyes left his meal and raised his head curious. But he kept silent.

Suddenly, a small Elopteryx came out, in the opening. He was very skinny, and was breathing very fast. The smaller creature squeaked at Brighteyes, who surprised, gave a low growl. Then, the small predator looked at the unfinished carcass, as his mouth started to make water. Brighteyes understood the little thingie was hungry. He could notice the animal was also suffering, and perhaps was having a hart time finding something to kill.

The he remembered about himself. About all the struggle he had to carry to survive. And no one could give him help then.

Brighteyes felt compassion for the first time in his life.

The Balaur growled slowly, as invite. He was inviting the Elopteryx to feast on his meal. Shaggy, the Elopteryx understood this, while approaching the carcass slowly, cautiously. Arrived to the corpse, the male Elopteryx set down, looked at Brighteyes surprised, and then nodded, in sign of respect.

After that, the food frenzy began.

While the carnivore dinosaur was literally eating more than his own weight, the Balaur could notice some traits, of his new trespasser: his feathers were all long and shaggy, he was pretty old, and he had the left eye missing, bringing a long scar from the bottom to the top of the eye cavity. What Brighteyes was unaware of, was that the scar, had origins much closer than he could ever think...

From then, Shaggy the Elopteryx became his best and only friend. Shaggy always followed Brighteyes, and almost all the time, helped him kill the prey. He was loyal, entertaining, and a good help: the best quality a good friend can have.

That’s how they become unseparable.

However, with new friends, come also new foes, as Brighteyes met a dangerous Tarascosaurus couple some weeks ago, after his arrive in the new land. They were bloody, and a real trouble for the smaller Balaur. The two Tarascosaurus, named Tarry and Asco, often stole his kills, as finding this easier and funnier.

But they were skilled hunters too, as Brighteyes himself will notice...

And Brighteyes had still a lot more to notice, really a lot more...
