Respect
About eight years have passed since Star took his new territory. The drought has long since broken and life has returned to normal. Star’s now full grown and weighs nearly six tons. He’s the most feared predator in the area. He’s also started hunting much larger prey. Star is feasting on a Saurolophus carcass when he smells something coming. He looks up to see Sickle and his gang. Star grimaces at the sight of the raptors. He despises them. They’ve never been a real problem, but they are extremely irritating. Sickle does not recognize Star at first, but then he sees the star shaped mark on his chest. He hisses at the sight of it, then starts to think twice. Star is no longer the scared little baby Tarbosaurus he once was. Now he’s an adult and covered in scars, showing he’s an active fighter. Sickle backs off and tells the gang it’s time to find another food source. Star takes another bite of flesh, and then debates if he should follow them or not. He’s as curious as ever and he’s not that hungry anymore. Not to mention the fact that he’s never seen the raptor gang in action. He takes one more bite, then he follows at a respectable distance. It’s about a half hour before the pack stops. Star hides behind a dune and watches. He’s shocked at what he sees the pack attempting to do. In his mind, it’s suicide.
Sickle and the raptors start to circle a giant Therizinosaurus. The four ton herbivore stares at his tiny attackers. He waves his three foot claws as a warning, but the raptors are unphased. Sickle gives the battle cry and the raptors attack. Three leap from behind and slash the Therizinosaurus with their claws. Then, they retreat. The attack was so sudden, as was the next. The vegetarian turns to face the raptors behind him, but that gives Sickle and a few others the chance to attack again. The Therizinosaurus whirls around with surprising speed and swings his giant arms. He manages to cut a raptor clean in half with one of his claws. The giant herbivore also ends up stepping on another. But Sickle is not taken back nearly as much as the other raptors at the sight of the halved and crushed raptors. He immediately attacks again. Sickle is joined by two other raptors who jump on the back of the Therizinosaurus. Sickle manages to climb up the slender neck and slashes it’s throat. His sickle claw scevers the jugular and the Therizinosaurus’ life blood pours out on the hot sand like a running faucet. The huge plant eater slumps to the ground and the raptors give a victory screech.
Star is impressed. He never thought the pack would be able to bring down such a large and dangerous dinosaur. Perhaps he should watch his back a little more. Star walks off, but stops a few yards away. He turns to see Sickle standing at the top of a dune, blood dripping from his claws and teeth. Star nods in respect and Sickle returns the gesture. Their relationship isn’t great, but the two have a lot more respect for each other now. Star heads home and takes a few more bites from the hadrosaur carcass. The elephant sized dinosaur should last him a few days, so he’ll have some peace for a while.
