This is similar to my post about the best dinosaur names that belong to somewhat poorly known dinosaurs. So we all know T-rex, Spinosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Velociraptor, Utahraptor, etc. They're all awesome predators, but what are the greatest poorly known ones? Let's find out...

10. Achillobator

Next to Utahraptor, this is the largest raptor yet. It reached a staggering 16 feet in length and weighed over 800 pounds!

9. Sinornithosaurus

Who said great predators had to be big? Sinornithosaurs was a nasty little predator that may have been able to glide and possibly had a veneomous bite.

8. Australovenator

Australovenator was a terrifying 1,500 lb predator with a nasty set of claws and deadly teeth. It was truly the southern hunter.

7. Mapusaurus

Mapusaurus were giant 10-12 meter long predators with deadly weapons. But the scariest part was that they hunted in packs!

6. Siats

The latest addition to North America's list of giant predators, Siats was a terrifying 10-11 meter long carnivore with a deadly array of weapons.

5. Aucasaurus

Aucasaurus was a 16-20 ft carnivore with the entire abelisaur package. It had to survive alongside predators twice it's size and may have lived in packs.

4. Oxalaia

One of the largest spinosaurs yet, Oxalaia was a giant 12 meter long predator with long crocodile like jaws and large hand claws.

3. Tarascosaurus

Tarascosaurus was, at up to 30 ft in length and 3 tons in weight, the third largest abelisaur and Europe's foremost predator during the late Cretaceous.

2. Ceratosaurus

This 6-8 meter long carnivore had some of the longest teeth of any large theropod, may have hunted in small groups, had sharp claws, and large size. If it had the brains, Ceratosaurus would have been one of the greates predators in Earth's history.

1. Daspletosaurus

Daspletosaurus had the basic tyrant dinosaur package all condensed into a 30-35 ft long, 3-4 ton body packed with muscle and weapons. With a high bite force, devestating teeth, smarts, pack hunting ability, and many other things, Daspletosaurus may be the greatest of the somewhat poorly known predators.

Honorable Mentions...

Deltadromeus

Saurophaganax

Eocarcharia

Good list, don't know why, but I was expecting Tarbosaurus to be number 1.

I was thinking about having Tarbosaurus up there, but I chose Daspletosaurus simply because I like it more, haha ;)

Great list, but I think Z-tyrannus should be first, even I didnt know, and still don't know, much about it.

Das was the T-rex before T-rex.

I'm actually pretty happy with this list. I think it's a good line up and a nice variety of predatory dinosaurs.

Delta, you can always ask me about Z-Tyrannus. Tyrannosaurs are my speciality ;)
