MemberCompsognathusNov-06-2013 11:41 AMThis is a pretty important chapter for the story, as what happens next will somehow mark Brighteyes's existence. Also, I have to thank Delta for a few edits, so thanks Delta ;)
By the way, hope you like it
First hunt
The male snapped his jaws, announcing his family that they are ready to hunt.
Yes, it has past already 6 months since Brighteyes has born, time in wich he grew up, being half of his parents size. And in this time, his intelligence and hunting skills clearly grew as he grew. In fact, he often used to hunt lizards, frogs, and even seagulls, always apllying his death sign on the victims: he killed them keeping their head still with the frontlimbs, and used his two retractable claws to perforate the prey's head. They always died instantly.
But now all was for real. He was going to hunt the first time with his family, and for the first time, he was going to hunt animals actually bigger than him. This time he had to be careful, to use all his power and intelligence, and finally to take down one prey.
The male was leading the family pack, followed by the female. The five predators were going to the hunting ground, a place where the adults knew there was a lot of herbivores.
And so it was.
An hour later, the Balaur pack could see them very good from the bushes they were hiding. There was a herd of nesting Telmatosaurus, right in a grassy plain, rounded by trees. The herbivores where calm. They didn't know of the danger lurking in the bushes around them.
The Balaurs attacked.
They appeared out of the bushes, fast like lightnings, all of them running straight and coordonated to the target prey, and every one of them from a different direction. In fact, everyone knew what to do: the younglings had to run to the prey, surrounding it, and blocking it until the parents would come for the killing move. The plan itself was a good one.
Of course, the panic was sparked between the Telmatosaurus, that now were running scared. For the predators, only one of the herbivores was enough to feed them. That "only one" was already surrounded by the three brothers. They had only to keep the dinosaur in that place, and to wait until the parents would eventually come.
But Brighteyes's brother, impacient and full of energy, suddenly jumped on the herbivore's back, trying to rip it apart. His sister, seeing that, jumped too on the Telmatosaurus, to help her brother. While moaning in pain, the prey saw its chance: it started to shake its body and jump like a bull in a rodeo. It finally managed to throw off its attackers, and run away into the forest, to safety, right while the two adults Balaurs were coming.
The scene was really awful for them: all the Telmatosaurus gone, not even an egg in the nests, and more important, a big waste of energy for no food.
The two immature Balaurs rised numb from the ground, and shaked their heads, to clear the pictures in their brain. They could notice by sight the disappointment in the look of their parents. Then they could notice on their skin too, while the angry adults started to kick them as a punishment. Their anger was comprehensible: the two younglings didn’t follow the plan, and making so they thrown off all the pack's effort into nothing.
Then, humiliated, they left the family, and fled to the forest, planning to stay for a short time, while the rest of the family was returning to the nest.
-
That evening, Brighteyes and the two adult Balaurs were eating some seagulls, killed by Brighteyes himself. Naturally, seagull's flesh isn't good as Telmatosaurus's flesh, but, when you are starving, all food you can get to, is good. Furthermore, they were concerned and waiting for the two brothers, that weren't home yet althought being so late.
-
The two young brothers were wondering in the wood, hungry and tired. They have found nothing yet. But they were not returning home until getting something to eat. They wanted to take the prey home, and show to the others, as a kind of apologize.
But, suddenly, all of their plans were gone, as a black, huge shadow appeared in front of them. Two desperate screams left the forest as the shadow disappeared.
Then all was silent.
