What to say, what to say... this is a very very very important chapter, and a very sad one, you will see why.
Balaur’s tragedy
Hateg was hit by a torrential rain.
And it was very, very bad.
It hasn't stopped from several weeks, and floods began to appear more frequently, here and there. This was bad even for Brighteyes and his parents, as the rain didn't allow them to hunt. Furthermore they were less. Now that the two brothers misteriously disappeared, it was a bit harder.
They even had to change their hiding, because of the floods and the giant Bradycneme. He was a real pain in the butt: he often stole their preys, and in that process, he always wounded them badly. And he was responsable of another tragedy, that the Balaur family didn’t know about...
And now they were there, on their new hiding in the top of a cliff, weaker, hungrier, and more demoralized.
The rain drops were hitting violently their heads, as they managed to eat a small Zalmoxes. After filling their bellies, the parents looked for a covering against the rain, while Brighteyes went to the cliff's edge, starting to stare down. He was lost in thoughts, remembering with hate all the bad things that Bradycneme made to them, but also, remembering with nostalgia about his siblings, that left home one day.
As he was staring to the river splashing feets under him, he was thinking about his beloved parents. He was thinking about all the love and care they gave to him, seeing, the violence of the waves hitting the rocks. He was thinking about himself, about his family life, about all the happyness his family gave to him, and all the happyness he gave to them, while listening to the noise of the whirling water, that was closer and... closer...
With wide eyes, he got up jumping, realizing, the water was bigger and bigger. He suddenly runned scared toward the adults, trying to warn them about the growing waters, that inevitably would arrive to inundate their hiding...
When suddenly, the forest itself started to shake.
The parents got up quickly, alarmed. All around reigned a smell of dead flesh, a smell that characterized large carnivores...
The huge Bradycneme, the Black Terror, got out from the bushes, revealing the carnivore’s identity. He was terrifying, the black feathers wet, the jaws full of blood, and the red, infocated eyes. He was awful.
He looked at the three Balaurs, seeing the carcass they just ate. With no food to steal, he thought about taking that little-scared Balaur as a snack. He screamed, and then lunged toward Brighteyes. Anticipating that, the female went straight to the youngling, making a barrier between her son and the predator.
Black Terror stopped, angry and surprised. He then felt a great pain on the back: the male Balaur, that got enough of him, jumped with agility on the Bradycneme's back, starting to slash and cut the flesh off. The other was trying to bite it off, but that didn't work. He then shaked his body, managing to cause the unbalance of the smaller carnivore, that fell under Black Terror's foot. The Bradycneme, in fact, was keeping him still with two of his digit, while keeping the second digit, the stickle-clawed digit up. The desperate male was trying to free himself from the monster's clutches, when he felt an overwhelming pain in the heart.
Then all was black.
BlackTerror pierced his heart with the second claw. Lots of blood started to stream out of the gash.
The other two Balaurs witnessed the entire scene with terror. They were angry and desperate. As the Bradycneme started to eat the dead male, the female suddenly jumped at his neck, almost suffocating him. The Black Terror shaked his head left to right, in order to take off the little attacker. With a final, decisive move, the Bradycneme thrown the female several feets farther, provoking the female to land on a sharp rock, wounding her to death.
Full of panic, the young Balaur went to the dying mother. He watched her with sadness, while she was struggling to look at her beloved son with her final breaths. She seemed to gave him a last encouraging smile, while moaning in agony. Then she gave her last breath.
She was gone, „tears†drops of rain caressing her dead body.
Brighteyes screamed hopeless. Bad move, as he taked Black Terror’s attention from the meal. The larger dinosaur recognized the little one from the snout's scar. He charged.
Brighteyes, desperate, waited for the final pain, resigned. But, right before the Bradycneme could bite him, the ground under their feet collapsed, causing them to fall in the whirling river, in the never ending flood.
Then the waves became their owners.
