MemberCompsognathusOct-27-2013 8:13 PMIt seems Thomas the T-rex is not the only Tyrannosaurus specimen that supports the higher estimates for T-rex. You can read about that in my older post...
Thomas The T-rex
Now, on to Devil Rex(also known as Wankel Rex). Devil Rex measured about 38 ft(11.6 meters) long and weighed an estimated 6-7 tons when it died. So what's the big deal? It was only 18(a year older than Thomas). That is nearly the length and almost as heavy as I said Thomas would be when he was 18! I said, and I quote, "However, at 17, Thomas still has a full year of rapid growth yet to come. Since T-rex put on nearly 10 lbs a day during this growth, Thomas would have gained over 3,650 pounds. So, at age 18, he would be 10,650-11,650 lbs. Probably would have been about 36-38 ft in length." I also stated that Thomas would be roughly 40+ ft long and 13,650-14,650 lbs when he was an adult. Devil Rex was nearly that heavy and almost as long when he died at 18! I would not be surprised if Devil Rex would have made it to 43 ft or so and perhaps 15,000-16,000 lbs or so by the time he died at roughly 30 years old. Just a little more evidence for the theory that T-rex was bigger than originally thought.

It's also the one I based my upper T-rex estimates on(along with Thomas), haha

I was just reading about some of the T-rex specimens when I saw that the Devil Rex was only 18 when it died, and I started thinking back to when I read about Thomas the T-rex and it all fell into place.

MemberCompsognathusOct-28-2013 3:11 PMThanks. Now that we have some actual specimens that support our theory, it'll be easier to prove. Also, with C-Rex and F-Rex almost certainly being a species of Tyrannosaurus of some sort(whether it's Rex or the mysterious X), the max size of 14-15 meters and 9-11 tons is more likely.

MemberCompsognathusOct-28-2013 3:15 PMAnd that would make T-rex the largest land predator ever. I'm so happy about this. Lately, even here in Romania, where there aren't such dino lovers as in other countries, I heard a lot of people saying Giga or Spino were a lot bigger than T-rex

MemberCompsognathusOct-28-2013 3:21 PMIt would. As far as Spino and Giga go, they were in the same size class as Rex and possibly, I do stress possibly, bigger, but not by much. The size difference would be minimal.

MemberCompsognathusOct-28-2013 3:36 PMIndeed. As many of us know, these are my sizes for the three...
Spinosaurus-
Average- 15-16 meters long, 6-7 meters tall(head), and 5-7 tons.
Max- 17 meters long, 7.5 meters tall(head), and 8 tons.
Giganotosaurus-
Average- 12-13 meters long, 5.5-6 meters tall(head), and 6-7.5 tons.
Max- 14 meters long, 6.5 meters tall(head), and 8-8.5 tons.
Tyrannosaurus-
Average- 12-13 meters long, 5.5-6 meters tall(head), and 7-8.5 tons.
Max- 14-15 meters long, 6.5-7 meters tall(head), and 9-11 tons.

MemberCompsognathusOct-28-2013 3:55 PMAren't most tyrannosaurs around 42 feet long and 8 tons? Or more? Also, my sizes are
Giganotosaurus
Average 46 feet long
Max 50 feet long
Average 8.7 tons
Max 9.2
T. rex
Average: 42 feet long
Max 44-45
Average 8.8
Max 9
Spinosaurus
Average 50
Max 62
Average 8 tons
Max 9
Just getting my ideas out there.

MemberCompsognathusOct-28-2013 4:27 PMPersonally, I don't see how Giga could be heavier than T-rex. T-rex is a lot more robust.
Anyways, yes Delta, most Tyrannosaurus' were about 40-43 ft long as adults. However, most implies the average size. That means the max was significantly higher. Devil Rex for example was already 38 ft long and nearly 7 tons at 18. If he lived to a ripe old age of 30, I see him easily getting to 43-45 ft long and 9+ tons. Also, you can't forget about C-Rex and F-Rex.

MemberCompsognathusOct-28-2013 6:24 PMThat means we have an average of about 42 feet for T. rex. Now, I'm just using an example here. We've only found two kinda not really complete Spinosaurus skeletons, so we can't say what the average it. So basically, they both could have been unusually small Spinosaurus, and it could have been around 70-80 feet long. Basically what I'm saying is that the dinosaurs we know less of are a lot more capable of imagining larger sizes.

MemberCompsognathusOct-28-2013 7:28 PMI kinda agree more on Delta's size estimations maybe just with a Rex reaching 47ft. max and weighing 9-11 tons max. And as Delta said we have quite a significant amount of Rex fossils so we do have a general idea of what the average size was I do however agree with you Rex Fan in that the average was probably around 40ft in length possibly 42ft.. It's not the same for Spino and Giga however, which both have few holotypes (One of Spino's being destroyed of course) and some fragmentary pieces that have been found.
Rex Fan 684
MemberCompsognathusOct-28-2013 8:36 PMI more or less agree with you Delta(although I think 70-80 ft is a massive stretch for Spinosaurus). Now, let's keep in mind those specimens may also be larger than average, representing the max size. We won't really know until we find more skeletons(same goes for Giga). T-rex is the largest land predator we have good evidence of and it's completely possible it was the largest.

MemberCompsognathusOct-31-2013 9:34 AMThe largest confirmed Rexy is still 12,3 m...I think that a Rexy got at max 13 m or so, but "Sue", the largest specimen, is 12,3 m, so I believe in 12,3 m.

MemberCompsognathusNov-01-2013 11:10 PMPeople thought the largest Alamosaurus got to was 50-60 ft long and 20 tons for years. Then they learned they were dead wrong. See my point?

MemberCompsognathusJan-15-2014 3:11 PMWhat about UCMP 118742? If i remember correctly it was about the size of 'Sue', when it died as a 16 year old, that would suggest a length of possibly 15-17m and a weight of 14-15 tons!
Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe in. -Brom-

Anacondas can grow up to 10 meters long, yet most of the time they're 7-5 meters long.
Same with these guys. Even though most animals are not usually restricted to an "average" size, that deosn't mean we should expect an anaconda to be 10 meters long :P
