DinoFights
MemberCompsognathusOct-13-2013 1:51 PMWelcome, ladies and gentleman, to the final DinoFight of season 2. I always appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, every day I pit two of the most formidable dinosaurs to ever exist against one another in a fight that is usually to the death, taking place in the world of Jurassic Park.
Medium division, finals, fights 31:
Yangchuanosaurus vs Daspletosaurus
InGen File: Yangchuanosaurus

Code Name: Yangchu or Yang
Also Known As: Metriacanthosaurus magnus
Danger Level: Very dangerous
Height: 15 feet
Length: 36 feet
Weight: 5 tons
Speed: 29 mph
Diet: Carnivore
Weapons: Bite, hatchet jaw function
Defeated: Ceratosaurus
Description: Yangchuanosaurus is one of InGen's first dinosaurs created. It was for many years known as Metriacanthosaurus due to a labeling error but the mistake was corrected in 2001. Yangchuanosaurus lives on both Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna where it competes with Allosaurus, its close cousin, for food. It is heavier and stronger than Allosaurus and has a more powerful bite force. It cannot, however, jump as high or run as fast as Allosaurus. Due to its more ground based life its enclosure will not have a roof like those of most other allosaurs. They hunt in small packs of up to eight members when handling large prey but they can and occasionally do hunt in solitude. Yangchuanosaurus is identifiable by its distinct coloring which is normally a series of vertical bright yellow stripes that begin on its tail and fade to orange near the middle if its back before turning an orangish red up its neck and ending on its eye crests in a bright crimson color. Aside from the stripes Yangchuanosaurus is a light olive tone with a whitish underbelly and alpha females have large scarlet circles with black stripes in them around their eyes. Females are usually slightly larger than males and lead packs. The largest ever recorded was a female about 36.5 feet long and 6.25 tons, though larger specimens are reported on rare occasions.
Like other allosaurs Yangchuanosaurus can use its jaw two ways: in a typical biting fashion that tears off flesh or in a strange maneuver that is done by unhinging the lower jaw and using its powerful neck muscles to bring its upper jaw down with a force of 4.5 tons per square inch. Subadults use the latter tactic to break the vertebrae of very large prey like Diplodocus when they jump on it, while the former is used by larger pack members to tear large chunks off of their prey's underside or legs.
Yangchuanosaurus are theropods with high aggression levels that make them very deadly predators, exceeded by few. However, due to their uniqueness, Mr. Hammond had an enclosure built for two females and a male, and he has stated that he finds them interesting.
InGen File: Daspletosaurus

Code Name: Steel jaw
Also Known As: Chomper
Danger Level: Very dangerous
Height: 12 feet
Length: 30 feet
Weight: 3 tons
Speed: 28 mph
Diet: Carnivore
Weapons: Bite
Defeated: Tarascosaurus, Kelmayisaurus & Megaraptor, Therizinosaurus, Styracosaurus
Description: Daspletosaurus is a tyrannosaur that inhabits Isla Sorna and Isla Nublar. They hunts in packs of up to 10 members as subadults but adults are either solitary or hunt in mated pairs, sometimes taking their young along with them to teach them how to hunt.
Like its descendant, Tyrannosaurus, males are dark brown to light green with black stripes and brown eyes while females are a solid brown to green, slightly larger and have yellow eyes.
They actually closely resemble Tyrannosaurus rex down to the last detail but are slightly less robust, have longer legs, lighter bones and more prominent eye crests.
Large females have been reported to grow up to 36 feet long in the wild though they may actually be Tyrannosaurus mistaken for Daspletosaurus.
Interestingly, though they don't directly compete with any dinosaur full time, they loathe most other species, especially Allosaurus, and will often fight them to the death and packs clashing in the grassy fields are not an uncommon sight.
They occasionally form packs and interbreed with other tyrannosaurs but the packs are short lived being that they all share different habitats naturally and enjoy different prey. Daspletosaurus, for example, enjoys ceratopsians, Gorgosaurus specializes in hadrosaur hunting, Albertosaurus mostly takes speedy small prey and Teratophoneus is primarily a scavenger.
They can and in one case did successfully breed with a Tyrannosaurus and the offspring were fertile. The hybrids closely resembled Tarbosaurus in shape and size but shared a color pattern with Tyrannosaurus and Daspletosaurus.
Though they have never escaped, Daspletosaurus have badly injured two trainers by giving them affectionate bites. In spite of this every employee has stated that they enjoyed working with them due to their friendliness and easy trainability. They got their code name, "steel jaw", from one incident when a frightened subadult Gigantoraptor kicked a Daspletosaurus in the jaw and left nothing more than a scratch while it would have shattered the jaw of most other dinosaurs. Despite the fact that it was found to be that the Gigantoraptor was young and on top of that had only clipped the tyrannosaur instead of actually kicked it full on the Daspletosaurus has been rumored to have survived adult bull Ankylosaurus tail blows to the face on the Internet, something that is impossible but still heavily rumored. Several Daspletosaurus will be featured in the 2015 park as possibly another performing animal but if they can't perform without attacking they will instead be attractions in the theropod display.
FIGHT!

Isla Nublar's life, though usually obviously present and active, seems oddly absent. Birds and pterosaurs don't fly overhead, monkeys don't swing in the trees, fish don't jump and dinosaurs seem to have forgotten to go about their business. A Yangchuanosaurus awakes at the top of a hill and looks down to see dense fog shrouding the forest in the early morning for the third day in a row. She doesn't remember why she's there at first, but then she recalls losing her home in the south beach jungle to a Daspletosaurus pack when the fog came in. She managed to take down two of the youngsters and almost the subadult, but the two other adult members chased her off with ease. She had never owned a pack nor had she served in one, but she knew much about them and she knew that each pack had different ways of operating. She had been watching the Daspletosaurus pack and, from what she had observed, it appeared that during hunting trips the alpha always stayed behind since there were less than four members but the pack would recruit more members as soon as the area was cleared of other predators. With the numbers down to 3, the alpha wouldn't risk losing the territory and would guard it himself, being the largest of the pack.
•••
On the southern edge of Isla Nublar's jungles, a Daspletosaurus male guards his new territory. He stands as alpha, feeling triumphant after chasing off a big female Yangchuanosaurus days earlier. Per his command, his mate and her younger brother had gone off on a hunting trip but they also were fitted with the task of collecting potential pack members and holding an audition of sorts, which of course meant hunting and hunting and hunting until some of the newcomers tripped up, the weak links being eliminated. In the end, only the strongest of the "tryouts" would remain.
Wise and experienced, the Daspletosaurus alpha knew that this could go on for days. The territory was marked with their scent but it appeared that the Yangchuanosaurus' scent still lingered. Sometimes it seemed fresh and the Daspletosaurus was paranoid that the Yangchuanosaurus would come back with her pack while he was alone.
The Daspletosaurus couldn't know that she didn't have a pack, but he might as well have because he kept the idea prominent in his head, implausible as it was. He had forced any doubts to the back of his mind and convinced himself that she was one of the few of her kind that lived alone and not in a pack like the other allosaurs, and most other macropredatory theropods for that matter. The father of kings paced in worry but would stop suddenly, feeling sure of himself. He would drop his guard only to pick the pacing back up, worried about the Yangchuanosaurus plotting an attack when a faint smell of the allosaur wafted into his face on the wind.
•••
The Yangchuanosaurus spies again, standing among trees draped in moss. Covered in nearly black mud smelling of sulfur to hide her scent and bright coloring, the Yangchuanosaurus is nearly invisible in the thick foggy air. She sneaks carefully up to the perimeter of the area, barely seeing the Daspletosaurus through the maze of green mossy trees and ferns. The rainforest helped keep her smell hidden as well, the smell of damp dirt and lichen shrouding everything. Slowly, the mud and moss covered Yangchuanosaurus acts out her methodical attack. She sneaks unheard up to just a stone's throw away when the Daspletosaurus stops in mid stride to investigate an unusual scent. It smells like some of the spring mud but it has an undertone of a predator. Taking another sniff of air, the Daspletosaurus inhales and catches that familiar scent again.
Trying to convince himself that it's too faint to be the Yangchuanosaurus returning with her pack, the Daspletosaurus starts pacing again until he realizes that the smell of sulfurous mud is probably being used to cover the pack's scent. The clever Daspletosaurus has figured out the Yangchuanosaurus' plan. He considers running until he peers at the forest. He can only make out the shape of one Yangchuanosaurus amongst in the fog and makes the connection that the smell was fainter than he thought it should be because it was only one Yangchuanosaurus stalking them, not a pack.
She was a loner after all. But the Daspletosaurus also realizes that she's deadly enough on her own, but sizes her up and grows comfortable with the idea of this fight.
•••
Her cover blown, the Yangchuanosaurus launches her attack. Not with a roar, but only with footsteps on the damp ground in the now eerily silent forest, the Yangchuanosaurus hits the Daspletosaurus alpha. He is instantly taken aback by her power and realizes that she's bigger than he thought. Measuring at least 5 feet longer than him, she's got an edge in size and thus power. The Yangchuanosaurus slams her upper jaw down like a hatchet on the Daspletosaurus' shoulder blade and a satisfying crunch is given off. A powerful animal in its own right, the Daspletosaurus roars and slams its head up into the Yangchuanosaurus' neck, stunning the allosaur briefly. Using the small window of time gained, the tyrannosaur uses the opportunity to get some leverage and shoves down on the Yangchuanosaurus' chest while gripping her with his two fingers on each small but powerful arm. He bites down on her back but she dips and easily breaks away from him.
The Yangchuanosaurus starts to circle but the Daspletosaurus doesn't join in. He simply lunges at the Yangchuanosaurus and his highly muscled jaws close inches from her vital neck as she jumps away. Wanting to get her territory back, the Yangchuanosaurus rushes forwards again with her head lowered and smashes the Daspletosaurus against a tree. A horrible pain rips through her back as the Daspletosaurus bites her spine, her spinal cord nearly being injured.
The Daspletosaurus shoves her off again and runs forwards to bite her back but she whips to the side and closes her scissor-like jaws on his head. They tear through his flesh and bone. The Daspletosaurus shakes his head side to side and escapes, some of the vicious Yangchuanosaurus' teeth stuck in his face and lower jaw. The cretaceous theropod attempts once more to bite the Yangchuanosaurus' throat but she bobs out of the way, instead nearly biting his but stopping short when her arm is pulled out of its socket.
The Daspletosaurus has quickly dislocated her arm, but only as a distraction. His teeth crush down on her lower leg and she kicks up but can't get him off. The feeling of breaking bone sets in and the Yangchuanosaurus lunges towards the Daspletosaurus but he pulls her leg back and she is forced to keep herself balanced, sacrificing her opportunity to bite him on the neck to keep from getting a broken leg. She swishes her tail and it hits him feebly, not even coming off as an attack. Growling, the Yangchuanosaurus pulls her leg forward but the Daspletosaurus aggressively yank back.
Deciding this is a lose-lose situation, the Yangchuanosaurus kicks with her other foot and falls on her chest, cracking ribs and hitting her already bruised neck on the ground. The Daspletosaurus bites again at her shin but she pulls it away and rolls over, kicking the Daspletosaurus in the mouth and rolls back to her stomach, trying to stand. The Daspletosaurus falls forwards and tries to balance his weight, ultimately tripping on a rock and falling into some ferns. The Yangchuanosaurus struggles to stand on her fractured leg but gets to her feet. Examining her leg, she can tell that she is going to be fine on the leg as it is only fractured and she has suffered worse injuries, though her arm may be useless in its twisted and dislocated state.
The Daspletosaurus stands with few injuries. Turning, he sees the Yangchuanosaurus standing in the center of the territory, head up, challenging him to come back and continue the fight. A challenge that is accepted. The Daspletosaurus comes at the Yangchuanosaurus with a resounding roar and the Yangchuanosaurus does so as well as the two titanic finalists smash together once again, the Daspletosaurus' jaws around the back of the Yangchuanosaurus' skull, very close to the neck. The Yangchuanosaurus pulls back and walks backwards in circles, jerking its head around and trying to break the death lock it is in. The back of the Yangchuanosaurus' lower jaws breaks and the allosaur is partially disarmed of a valuable weapon in such an even fight. Pulling away, the Yangchuanosaurus dislocates its lower jaw and completely loses any hope of biting the Daspletosaurus' neck.
Confident that the fight is in the bag, the Daspletosaurus bites into the side of the Yangchuanosaurus and the resulting would seems superficial, as was intended. The Daspletosaurus bites a strip hanging off and pulls, tearing the meat off of the bones and exposing some ribs. The Daspletosaurus gives the ghastly wound a good headbutt and snaps several ribs.
The bigger Yangchuanosaurus spins to the side and grabs the Daspletosaurus' head. The Daspletosaurus isn't very concerned with the action, instead taking a rather nonchalant stance with the "attack", merely growling in amusement and getting into a position to lunge at the raising neck of the Yangchuanosaurus. That is until the Daspletosaurus realizes the broken jawed Yangchuanosaurus has another highly substantial weapon without the use of its useless and dislocated lower jaw. The thought, however, is belated as the upper jaw of the Yangchuanosaurus comes down like an ax blade and smashes the Daspletosaurus over the head, the lower jaw still hanging limply.
In a daze, the ceratopsian killer falls to the ground. His vision leaves him seeing two blurry Yangchuanosaurus standing over him, their lower jaws hanging limply. The Daspletosaurus looks at the ground and stands partially, noticing he has four feet before shaking his bleeding and split open head. The skull of the Daspletosaurus is not only visible, but visibly cracked open. He utters a fearsome roar and rushes forwards, only to see the Yangchuanosaurus is gone.
Something hard slams into his side at high speed and he falls, sliding across the ground and resting against a wad of tree roots. The Daspletosaurus kicks the chest of the Yangchuanosaurus and rakes down, exposing more of the Yangchuanosaurus' rib cage and blood spews out of a torn vein.
The Yangchuanosaurus kicks at the Daspletosaurus to get him to stand but he doesn't, just leaning against the tree. After the long and brutal battle, the tyrannosaur is exhausted. He pants and pours blood, his vision going black and his body going numb. The Yangchuanosaurus looks away and slams her foot down on the Daspletosaurus' head, the resulting impact producing a sick squishy crack that would make anyone wretch. The battle is over. The ultimate champion of DinoFights season 2 doesn't place her foot on her defeated foe and roar, nor does she limp away as a battered victor. She slowly plods across the clearing as thunder booms and rain falls.
There lies a stack of hollow logs covered in moss. The worn out Yangchuanosaurus rolls the wood away and shoves her snouts into the roots, tearing them away. In the burrow there are her reasons for returning to this territory. Seven eggs lie in moss and are covered in some dry grass. Carefully, the mother removes her babies and brings them in close to her, lying down for the night.
Tomorrow they will bring the Daspletosaurus to the beach where others can eat it and find a new home, but tonight, they must wait out the storm.
CHAMPION OF DINOFIGHTS SEASON 2: YANGCHUANOSAURUS MAGNUS

Equal bite, equal speed, equal agility, equal fighting skill and equal everything, really, Yangchuanosaurus outclassed Daspletosaurus by a very small margin only due to a small size advantage and the second jaw function. This was a 51/49 fight if there ever was one, and Yangchuanosaurus just so happened to be the dinosaur in this match up that rolled out of this season alive and victorious. Stay tuned for some bonus fights as suggested by Deltadromeus, Makaveli7, and one suggested by shambs on my very first fight I posted.
