Welcome, ladies and gentleman, to my daily DinoFight. I always appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, every day I pit two of the most formidable dinosaurs to ever exist against one another in a fight to the death (most of the time). Medium division, round 2, fight 21: Yangchuanosaurus vs Medusaceratops InGen File: Yangchuanosaurus [img]http://th07.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/f/2011/176/7/c/allosaurus_by_ferahgo_the_assassin-d3jzawu.jpg[/img] Code Name: Yangchu Also Known As: Metriacanthosaurus Danger Level: Very dangerous Height: 15 feet Length: 36 feet Weight: 6 tons Speed: 29 mph Diet: Various herbivores Weapons: Bite, hatchet jaw function, speed, size, claws Description: Yangchuanosaurus is one of InGen's first dinosaurs created. It was for many years known as Metriacanthosaurus due to a labeling error but the mistake was corrected in 2001. Yangchuanosaurus lives on both Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna where it competes with Allosaurus, its close cousin, for food. It is slightly heavier and stronger than Allosaurus and has a more powerful bite force. It cannot, however, jump as high or run as fast as Allosaurus. Due to its more ground based life its enclosure will not have a roof like those of other allosaurs. They hunt in small packs of up to eight members when handling large prey but they can and occasionally do hunt in solitude. Yangchuanosaurus is identifiable by its distinct coloring which is normally a series of vertical bright yellow stripes that begin on its tail and fade to orange near the middle if its back before turning an orangish red up its neck and ending on its eye crests in a bright crimson color. Aside from the stripes Yangchuanosaurus is a light olive tone with a whitish underbelly and alpha females have large scarlet circles with black stripes in them around their eyes. Females are usually slightly larger than males and lead packs. The largest ever recorded was a female about 36.5 feet long and 6.25 tons, though larger specimens are reported. Like other allosaurs Yangchuanosaurus can use its jaw two ways: in a typical biting fashion that tears off flesh or in a strange maneuver that is done by dislocating the lower jaw and using its powerful neck muscles to bring its upper jaw down with a force of 4.5 tons per square inch. They use the latter tactic to break the vertebrae of very large prey like Diplodocus when they jump on it, while the other is used by larger pack members to tear large chunks off of their prey's underside or flank. Yangchuanosaurus has a large cerebrum for a theropod and this makes it a very deadly threat to humans because it will be capable of forming complex plans and recognizing the danger they pose. Despite their potential danger, Mr. Hammond has requested they be featured in the new park as a middle popularity attraction and capture is set to begin on April 9th, 2011 with three being requested for capture. InGen File: Medusaceratops [img]http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2010/164/6/7/Medusaceratops_Lokii_by_SaraRichard.jpg[/img] Code Name: Medusa Danger Level: Harmless unless provoked Height: 7.5 feet Length: 20 feet Weight: 3 tons Speed: Charges at 35 mph Diet: Various plants Weapons: Large horns, speed Description: Medusaceratops lives strictly on Isla Nublar and travels the island in a single large herd. Females and juveniles compose the herd most of the year but during the Fall mating season males join the herd. Adult males are often solitary. Medusaceratops males have green faces with white stripes and their frill fades to a lighter green. They have very large horns proportionate to body size that curve outwards. Normally their bodies are also a green color with black mottled marks along its spine. Females are brown or olive with smaller face horns that the males. Their frill horns, however, are equally as large and they curve downwards in varying degrees depending on the individual. Medusaceratops eat the low lying melons and other fruits native to the island. Due to their plentiful food source and their herding tactic, Medusaceratops are among the most common dinosaurs created by InGen with around 60 individuals being counted crossing a roar from a helicopter. Given that there are also males that don't join the herd, the population could number around 100, making it a serious contender for the species of dinosaur with the highest population behind only some hadrosaurs and a few other ceratopsians. The original twenty were cloned in 2003 as soon as the fossils were discovered and their unique diet, which consists entirely of melons and berries, allowed them to quickly make a niche for themselves and their population exploded almost immediately. They are currently being considered as a petting zoo attraction for the 2015 park. FIGHT! Night sets in on Isla Sorna and a Yangchuanosaurus prepares to finish her hunt. She hasn't eaten in a couple days and needs to return successful tonight for her and her young to survive. Her smallest was already eaten by its hungry siblings. She spots a fairly large shape ahead and sees it is facing away from her, its short tail moving a little in the grass. It's not a sauropod. The Yangchuanosaurus sees its frill and strange looking array of horns, thinking hard as to what it is. It resembles several animals she has seen other carnivores hunt before, but it has different horns. The Medusaceratops she stalks sniffs the air and smells the presence of several animals. Some Compsognathus... A Postosuchus... Ticinosuchus... Estemmenosuchus... Huaxiaosaurus... Brachiosaurus... Sauroposeidon... A Chilantaisaurus very far off... And a much closer large predator. He crouches and tilts his frill back, protecting his neck, and slowly starts to turn towards the threat behind him. Before he can face her, the Yangchuanosaurus is upon the ceratopsian. Her razor sharp teeth immediately tear a huge piece of its fatty flesh out. Blood streams down her face as she dodges its first charge, getting a look at its face. Its horns are unusually large and curved outwards. An old and large male over twenty feet long, she gets from the passing charge. It whips around and she does as well, leaving them in a standoff scenario. The Medusaceratops has the clear advantage here and stomps his feet with a snort. The Yangchuanosaurus knows it can avoid him with superior agility, but she can only dodge so many charges without a stumble, a mishap that could be a deadly mistake. Instead she glances to the side and looks at a tree. The Medusaceratops looks at the tree as well. She doesn't underestimate the Medusaceratops, knowing it isn't stupid enough to run into a tree as the veteran's many scars indicate. Still, her superior eyes see something his don't. The Yangchuanosaurus circles with the Medusaceratops and inevitably stops in front of the tree. Thinking he knows her plan, the Medusaceratops charges. She jumps out of the way and he turns as well, knowing her move. But while she leapt over the twisted roots of the tree, the Medusaceratops tripped, his chin colliding with the ground. The Yangchuanosaurus wastes no time in her attack, running back over to him and biting his back, tearing out chunks. Suddenly, she remembers to disarm him in case he frees himself, biting off one horn and starting on the next when his beak bites down on her neck. Although not causing fatal damage, the potential danger of a bite in the neck scares her enough to make her jump back with a shocked roar. Feeling only a small amount of warm blood trickling down her neck in the cool night, she lifts her head just in time to see the Medusaceratops charge at her. Not having enough time to jump to the side, she runs forward. Still, her legs cannot carry her fast enough to evade a charging Medusaceratops. Its damaged horn stabs through the back of her upper leg and breaks off, but the ceratopsian still uses its frill to push her down and bites at her with its powerful beak. The curved protrusions from its frill rip a gaping hole in her tail. With a growl she kicks her attacker in the face. The bony beak cracks and a piece breaks off. The wounded Yangchuanosaurus stands on a shaky leg as the Medusaceratops shakes its head. She takes advantage immediately and kicks the herbivore in the face again with her huge foot while standing on her wounded leg and it buckles. Knowing this is a race, she uses all of her willpower to stand before the drooling Medusaceratops can clear the cobwebs from his head. She limps towards it in a hurry and moves to its side, using the last of her energy to pounce. The ceratopsian falls with a bellow. He is still a little dizzy and the two exhausted animals lie down for a moment, the Medusaceratops struggling feebly against the Yangchuanosaurus' heavy weight on top of him. The Yangchuanosaurus digs her claws into the Medusaceratops and shoves her snout under its frill. She tears at his neck and he gives one last heave with a surprising amount of energy. The Yangchuanosaurus falls off as the Medusaceratops starts to roll back to its feet. Suddenly it is back up and tilts its heavy head forward, drained of its energy after all of the fighting. A fatal mistake. The Yangchuanosaurus rushes towards the ceratopsian in one bound and, before the Medusaceratops knows what's happening, brings her upper jaw down with tremendous force, severing the spinal cord of her prey. The Medusaceratops falls, its eyes wide and its mouth open. WINNER: YANGCHUANOSAURUS [img]http://th03.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2011/214/2/0/yangchuanosaurus_by_elperdido1965-d42gjya.jpg[/img] Though not directly suited for hunting ceratopsians, size, intelligence, a devastating teeth, a powerful bite and durability gave Y. magnus the win. BONUS STORY *Instead of doing T. rex first, I decided to do the mystery dinosaur. We will see a glimpse of the mystery dinosaur's personality and habits for season 3. The Yangchuanosaurus digs into her victim's chest, clearing its body of organs and dropping them to lighten the carcass for the journey how. She lifts her bloody head to see her larger cousin, a brightly colored Chilantaisaurus, standing on the opposing side of the carcass. She drops her head and starts to walk home, defeated upon sight, while the Chilantaisaurus bites the tail of the ceratopsian. As expected, he starts to drag it. But unexpectedly, he doesn't drag it home with him, instead following the Yangchuanosaurus. He has just eaten and is in a good mood, doing this out of courtesy for a female the lonely giant finds attractive. She looks at him and he glances back, stopping when she does. Hesitant, she takes a step forward and he moves ahead a step as well. She understands and leads him to her home. When they arrive, her mate comes out and shows his teeth with a growl. The Yangchuanosaurus female whimpers to show that he's a welcome visitor and shows her mate the horn embedded in her leg, barely able to stand now that the adrenaline has worn off. He pulls the horn out and drops it, immediately relieving much of the pain. She puts some weight on the leg and, though still impaired in running ability, can walk well. The three continue to the hidden nest, flipping over a hollow log with the bottom ripped out in a section and some ground dug out to make a nest. The babies look up at their visitor, confused and afraid. And rightfully so. The Chilantaisaurus drops the Medusaceratops and shows his teeth, his eyes darkening and his lips curving up in a menacing grin. He lowers his head and grunts a simple message: Run. His mate, just as big and intimidating as him, emerges from the forest and joins his side. The Yangchuanosaurus pair pick up two babies each in their mouths and high tail it away, the Chilantaisaurus right behind them. The smaller male Yangchu easily keeps out of reach but his mate falls behind. The the pair of killers snap their jaws behind her, saliva filled with proto toxin dripping from them. One of the Chilantaisaurus' thumb claws tear her tail and she growls, kicking some dirt up with her foot while still running. The dirt hits the male's eyes and he roars, stopping for a minute to clear them. He resumes the chase and starts following the scent of the Yangchuanosaurus pair, gaining on them. He catches up to the tiring two along with his mate, and the Yangchuanosaurus look to be goners. The Yangchuanosaurus male looks to his mate and, having been together for so long, they formulate the only plan they can. The male gives the female the young to free his mouth and gives out a series of extremely loud high pitched roars before leading the female away. The male Chilantaisaurus, tired from running, is matched with the Yangchuanosaurus female in speed. The babies cry out from their mother's mouth and arms, driving her to run faster. After nearly an hour, her lungs are ready to burst. The Chilantaisaurus' venom from a mere nip on her tail is taking effect and her muscles are stiffening. Her legs suddenly lock up and she falls on the ground. After a few moments, the panting male Chilantaisaurus has caught her and with a sadistic growl of joy he reaches down with his claw and puts it on the muscle in the corner of her mouth. Slowly, he pulls it along her jaw and tears her face open. Her jaw is too stiff to move and she can't roar. Her eyes flick toward her babies and the killer's eyes follow hers. Just as he places a claw over one of the babies in her arm a head slams into his side. Stumbling back he roars at the attacking Yangchuanosaurus as another younger Yangchuanosaurus tears into his leg. With one swipe of his deadly thumb claw he tears its throat out. He turns again to face the other but there are now over fifteen, among them the grounded Yangchuanosaurus' mate. Some are carrying brightly colored pieces of his own mate. In the blink of an eye, he is nothing but shreds. The male Yangchuanosaurus comes over to his stiff but still breathing mate and lies down beside her in the dirt plain they are in. A few baobab trees standing nearby. He digs a hole under one tree and drops the juveniles in it as his mate regains her mobility, twitching her bleeding mouth and legs.

Great fight. Awesome bonus story. I guess it really is just down to Yangchuanosaurus and Daspletosaurus for best medium carnivore. Yutyrannus and Suchomimus will cause some problems, and so will Siamosaurus, but I think that Das and Yang can best them.

Perhaps. But remember, Suchomimus is the biggest remaining competitor at 40 feet and 6.25 tons. Adult Suchomimus and Sue [img]https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Ov7gRiJSvwU/UiDT7R0QJmI/AAAAAAAAAGg/3Ok0jLbRxFk/s640/blogger-image-1363341308.jpg[/img]

Suchomimus was lighter in comparison to everything else that could pose a problem. I guess Suchomimus is a very good competitor, and it would cause some real trouble, but I still think that Das and yang will meat at the end.

Good fight. I'm hoping Daspeltosaurus makes it all the way to the end.

I will be switching between TTJ and InGen Files. TTJ will be used in the next.

If it comes down to Das and Yang, I'm rooting for Das. Seeing that comparison, why isn't Sucho in the Large Divion? It REALLY strethches Medium, so I hope you find a way to eliminate it with a great fight. I can Das or Yang taking it out.

Yeah really. If Ekrix was eliminated, why isn't Suchomimus?

Crap. I forgot to add the upcoming fight part at the end again... Anyway, next fight is Veterupristisaurus vs Siamosaurus. The reasons Suchomimus wasn't removed is 1. I forgot the holotype Suchomimus was a subadult until after I scheduled it in 2. Sucho had already passed into the second round when I realized it was a little too big to compete 3. While big enough for large, it had a bigger version of itself competing, as with Oxalaia, in the form of Spinosaurus.

That's fine, just wondering, would have been interesting to see Sucho vs Spino in round 2 or 3 (or even 1) of the large division.

Is there a way it could be changed to Baryonyx? It would be just the right size.

Baryonyx was killed by the Carnotaurus in the first fight Delta.

Maybe I'll replace it with "Suchosaurus", which is quite possibly an adult Baryonyx.
