Welcome, ladies and gentleman, to my daily DinoFight. I always appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, every day I pit two of the most formidable dinosaurs to ever exist against one another in a fight to the death (most of the time). Medium division, quarter finals, fight 28: Therizinosaurus vs Daspletosaurus InGen File: Therizinosaurus [img]http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2010/225/7/5/Therizinosaurus_Immitation_by_Raphael041.jpg[/img] Code Name: Claws Danger Level: Harmless unless provoked Height: 19 feet Length: 38 feet Weight: 6 tons Speed: 25 mph Diet: Unknown Weapons: Claws, size Description: Therizinosaurus is a large theropod that originally existed solely on Isla Sorna. It is one of the tallest theropods but is relatively short in length. It has a short and thick tail as well as a barrel-like body with a long neck and small head. Their arms are very long, up to 12 feet in the largest specimens, and their claws are the longest known to have existed at over 3 feet long. They also have relatively stocky and inflexible legs with short claws. Two "species" of Therizinosaurus existed. The first, a carnivorous, cold blooded, and scaly version, was cloned as an unknown species in 1985 by InGen and much of its missing DNA was filled with that of a Water Monitor lizard. This species had a shorter neck than the other, was slower, had shorter arms, shorter and more curved claws, a longer tail and had a lizard-like head with curved serrated teeth. It preyed on small animals like Stygimoloch when being observed after escaping and was only kept on Isla Sorna because of its strange and "unfriendly" appearance. This Therizinosaurus species was fond of water because of its Water Monitor mutation. All but one died in 1992 when a Tyrannosaurus escaped and killed them before being recaptured on Isla Sorna. The other more correct "species" was created in 1995 from remains with more DNA preserved and a 95-99% complete animal was created. This Therizinosaurus is feathered and has a beak rather than a reptilian head. It is very similar in color to the Himalayan Monal pheasant and the males of the species even have the same head plumes. In 2010 one worker's son remarked that one of them in a photograph looked like Kevin from the Disney film Up so when the male (along with three females) is created and put on display in 2015 he will be named "Kevin". Therizinosaurus are rather robust, being coated in a thick layer of fat and then a dense layer of shaggy feathers. Despite their remarkable bulk, they are able to move their arms surprisingly fast, making their scythe-like claws very deadly weaponry. InGen File: Daspletosaurus [img]http://www.deviantart.com/morelikethis/205562690[/img] Code Name: Steel jaw Also Known As: Chomper Danger Level: Very dangerous Height: 12 feet Length: 30 feet Weight: 3 tons Speed: 28 mph Diet: Carnivore Weapons: Bite, speed Description: Daspletosaurus is a tyrannosaur that inhabits Isla Sorna and formerly Isla Nublar. They hunts in packs of up to 10 members as subadults but adults are either solitary or hunt in pairs, sometimes taking their young along with them to teach them how to hunt. Like its descendant, Tyrannosaurus, males are dark brown to light green with black stripes and brown eyes while females are a solid brown to green, slightly larger and have lighter yellow eyes. They actually closely resemble Tyrannosaurus rex down to the last detail but are slightly less robust, have longer legs, lighter bones and more prominent eye crests. Large females have been reported to grow up to 36 feet long in the wild. Interestingly, though they don't directly compete with any dinosaur full time, they loathe most other species, especially Allosaurus, and will fight them to the death. They occasionally form packs and interbreed with other tyrannosaurs but the packs are short lived being that they all share different habitats naturally and enjoy different prey. Daspletosaurus, for example, enjoys ceratopsians, Gorgosaurus specializes in hadrosaur hunting, Albertosaurus mostly takes speedy small prey and Teratophoneus is primarily a scavenger. They can and in one case did successfully breed with a Tyrannosaurus and the offspring were fertile. The hybrids closely resembled Tarbosaurus in shape and size but shared a color pattern with Tyrannosaurus and Daspletosaurus. Though they have never escaped, Daspletosaurus have badly injured two trainers by giving them affectionate bites. In spite of this every employee has stated that they enjoyed working with them due to their friendliness and easy trainability. They got their code name, "steel jaw", from one incident when a frightened Gigantoraptor kicked a Daspletosaurus in the jaw and left nothing more than a scratch while it would have shattered the jaw of most other dinosaurs. Despite the fact that it was found to be that the Gigantoraptor had only clipped it instead of actually kicked it full on the Daspletosaurus has been rumored to have survived adult bull Ankylosaurus tail blows to the face on the Internet, something that is impossible but still heavily rumored. Several Daspletosaurus will be featured in the 2015 park as possibly another performing animal but if they can't perform without attacking they will instead be normal attractions. FIGHT! A Daspletosaurus paces back and forth in his pen. The dusty ground is even, the ground is in a pit below the ground outside and a fence is above the ground. The fences are about ten tall and are roped with metal cables. He carefully touches one with his nose and sees that they aren't electric, just like his pen he had as a baby on the other island. Several rangers turn on lights as they leave, their shift being over. He hasn't been here long, but the Daspletosaurus has noticed that every day around sundown, the people leave. He waits until they pass the horizon. He knows that the others arrive about a half hour later and he must be quick. As soon as they're gone, the Daspletosaurus puts his carefully calculated plan into action. He pulls one of the feeding bags from outside into his pen. It smells rather unappetizing, like the food that his prey eats. Then he pulls in the others and forms a stack in the corner. The adventurous Daspletosaurus steps on the bags and gets on the ledge where the cables start. He bites into one and pulls back, his teeth cutting through it easily. The cable whips back and hits him in the face, startling him. He whimpers and decides not to keep biting through them, and instead shoves on the metal wires. They creak and groan as he puts his full force on them. With a loud snap they come apart and he is through the gate with a few cuts from the wires whipping him. Quickly, he starts to explore the maze of holding pens, some smaller than his but many much larger. He looks down in a pit that measures 100 feet by 100 feet to see a Spinosaurus maroccanus pair. They're young, but still much bigger than him. One shoves its long snout under the fense and sniffs, having heard him or smelled him. It growls and opens its mouth a little, hoping to catch him. It shoves its snout farther out and continues trying to bite, even after he's past it. Looking back, he notices the aggressive dinosaur is blind folded, and it's not hard to see why when they try to eat anything that walks by. Next to them is an even larger pen with a dark black behemoth in it. The giant has a ridge on its back as well and has white rings on his side and sail. He doesn't mind the Daspletosaurus much, simply looking at him curiously. Several other dinosaurs he would usually be afraid of are sleeping in the other pens in the area. The fairly smart Daspletosaurus realizes this was probably the block for dangerous dinosaurs. Large cages sit suspended in the air by huge cranes, and the Daspletosaurus recognizes enormous pterosaurs clinging to the walls and floor. A muffled clicking and cawing sound comes from a nearby series of cages. The glass is dark and, looking through it, he sees many Velociraptor, and in the next Utahraptor. Continuing on, he sees many raptor species. Moving to the second to last one, he sees several Ekrixinatosaurus asleep inside. But there is another behind barbed wire and several layers of electric fencing. Curious, he moves to the only part that is somewhat unguarded: the door. The door is thick steel and the plexiglass on it has a wire net inside. Wondering what sort of monster would need such high security, he looks through the one way glass to see nothing. Several times he glimpses a bush moving and hears muffled clicks and hisses, but not once does he see an animal. Giving up, he turns and sees the first herbivore thus far. It is a Therizinosaurus. The feathered dinosaur pulls down a branch of a tree outside its pen and eats the leaves off of it. Realizing he's hungry, he sizes up the long clawed dinosaur. It's big, but he sees that it's neck stretches the length. All in all, it's only bigger than him, but it's not faster. The predatory theropod seizes the opportunity and rushes at the Therizinosaurus' unguarded neck. He jumps at it, narrowly missing it, and the Therizinosaurus pulls back. Hissing, the strange long neck pulls away and brandishes its claws like swords, holding them in a fighting and pushing his chest out. The Daspletosaurus sees a way to attack and gives it a try. He shoves through the metal wiring and it snaps the Therizinosaurus in the chest, distracting it but also cutting Daspletosaurus with the backlash. The tyrannosaur lands on top of the Therizinosaurus and goes on the attack immediately, biting the Therizinosaurus in the right arm to disable its best weapon. He tries to bite the other, but as soon as he turns claws rip across his face and he roars in pain. The Therizinosaurus shoves him off and gets to its feet slowly. The Daspletosaurus is up first and reassesses the situation, looking for another weakness. The colorful Therizinosaurus raises its bright head quills and squawks, lifting its ten foot arms once again. He waits for the Daspletosaurus to charge him, and as soon as he does, the Therizinosaurus brings its claws down with immense force on the Daspletosaurus' snout. Or at least he tries. The nimble Daspletosaurus ducks to avoid the swipe and bites the Therizinosaurus on the thigh, injuring the bigger herbivore. The Therizinosaurus swipes at the Daspletosaurus again, but he misses once again. He stumbles on his injured leg and turns as the Daspletosaurus bites his other leg. The Therizinosaurus swipes with both arms and catches the Daspletosaurus between them, slicing the carnivore's shoulders open. The Daspletosaurus bleeds heavily, but manages to headbutt the Therizinosaurus in the stomach. With a wheeze, the Therizinosaurus stumbles back and almost falls, the wind knocked out of him. He leans against the wall of the enclosure and catches his breath, but not before the Daspletosaurus bites down on his ribs. He slaps the Daspletosaurus in the shoulders and ribs repeatedly, trying to reach its neck. The Daspletosaurus comes out with a mouthful of feathers and fat, spits them out, then goes to attack again but is met with claws to the chin. In a lightning quick movement, the Therizinosaurus shoves its spike-like claws through the lower jaw of the Daspletosaurus and even pierces the roof of its skull. Like a fish caught on a hook, the Daspletosaurus flops around, trying to free itself from the claws jammed into its skull. He pulls down but the Therizinosaurus thrusts its claws back up. He lifts his wounded arm and swings it down to the Daspletosaurus' neck, nearly giving the death blow but the Daspletosaurus dodges the blow. Twisting to the side, he breaks the wrist of the Therizinosaurus. The Daspletosaurus pulls the broken hand out of his punctured lower jaw and cloaks out a roar, spitting blood. Blood pours out of his gaping wound and fills his mouth as he prepares for another attack. He bites the elbow of the Therizinosaurus and pulls down, breaking the lower arm bones and he shakes his head, nearly tearing the arm off. The sun sets and the Daspletosaurus realizes he has spent too much time away from his pen. As the sky darkens, the Daspletosaurus hears the hisses and roars of other dinosaurs escalating in frequency, knowing their feeding time is coming as soon as the rangers arrive. The Daspletosaurus considers abandoning the fight and getting back to his temporary enclosure, but wants to win this fight. Claws stab into his thigh and he is slammed against the wall by the larger theropod. The Therizinosaurus holds its neck up to avoid being bitten and caws loudly to alert the park rangers if they are nearby. The Daspletosaurus roars and blood comes from his mouth again. He manages to break free from the scythe wielding Therizinosaurus and dodge the slice at his throat. The Therizinosaurus swipes at him again with his good arm, his claws swinging towards the throat of the carnivore. They miss by an inch as the Daspletosaurus limps back on injured legs. The Therizinosaurus hobbles forwards and swings again, but misses. The Daspletosaurus moves to the side despite his pain and headbutts the Therizinosaurus in the ribs. Though he doesn't come close to even staggering the bigger Therizinosaurus, he distract it by hitting its wounded ribs he bit earlier. Claws rip across his back as the Therizinosaurus takes yet another swing. The long armed giant turns to face the Daspletosaurus and swipes blindly.* Suddenly, a force hits him from behind and he tries desperately to not fall, the weight on his back throwing him off. With a caw, he finally loses his balance and lumbers forwards and, with a thud, hits the ground. The Daspletosaurus on his back bites his neck, ending the fight as rangers finally show up. WINNER: DASPLETOSAURUS [img]http://dinopedia.ru/albums_global.php?id=124[/img] Originally, Therizinosaurus was going to win. I mean, the biggest specimens have arms that measure about 12 feet. However, I came to realize that it lacked stability, speed, agility, and any defense other than its claws. Though they were formidable weapons, they were countered with a flaw that was the icing on the cake: the long and exposed neck. Considering that most Tarbosaurus were only the size of a large Daspletosaurus and hunted Therizinosaurus, I think Daspletosaurus may take this. However, I will include the original ending as an alternate ending. We will pick up from the * ALTERNATE ENDING: THERIZINOSAURUS WINS [img]http://antarcticspring.deviantart.com/art/Therizinosaurus-II-201685045[/img] * The Therizinosairus catches the Daspletosaurus across the face with a powerful swing of the arm, splitting his skull open and sending him reeling into the enclosure wall. Leaning on the cold cement wall, the Daspletosaurus' pain lessens. The cold is soothing, even as pieces of his skull and flesh hang off of him. The Therizinosaurus rushes forwards like a dinosaurian train and crushes the Daspletosaurus' ribs. He slashes the neck of the tyrannosaur repeatedly and brings the fight to an end, killing the tyrant with power and massive injuries as park rangers finally make it to the gruesome scene. Tomorrow I'll be releasing a dual fight post featuring Ceratosaurus vs Yangchuanosaurus and Styracosaurus vs Daspletosaurus in the semi-finals. After that we will have Day of the Dinosaur and I will put out the final fight. Questions? Comments? Anything?

Great fight! I hoped for the Daspletosaurus to win, but the ending and the alternate ending made the fight more interesting. Good job!

Amazing fight. May have been a bit hard to follow, but that is the smallest tiniest little detail. So, I say 11/10

Good fight. As usual, I was rooting for Das. I see the finale being Das vs Yang, and I'm rooting for Das in that one (should he be in it, that's my prediction).

Jack of all trades. Master of none

Me too, I'm rooting for Yang this time. I bet Yang will crush Ceratosaurus.

I would have expected Theri to win, but I see your reasoning. Good fight!

Fanatic, who do you think will win, Das or Yang?

I'm betting Yang slaughters Cerato and I'm not sure about Styracosaurus and Daspletosaurus.

Nice. I was rooting for Das. I'm rooting for Ceratosaurus, but I would not be surprised if Yang wins. Das should beat Styraco. He lived with deadly ceratopsians and fought them on a regular basis.

Im thinking yang would win but I also think the daspletosaurus took too many hits to last that long in the fight

what a shock the keepers would get when they come back to see the daspletosaurus, covered in lacerations and wolfing down the therizinosaurus or the therizinosaurus, bloodied but triumphant, standing over the dead body of the daspletosaurus
