Welcome, ladies and gentleman, to my daily DinoFight. I always appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, every day I pit two of the most formidable dinosaurs to ever exist against one another in a fight to the death (most of the time). Medium division, quarter finals, fight 27: Veterupristisaurus vs Styracosaurus Sorry if this is low quality. I've been writing my fights from my phone, I've been distracted by my honeymoon, I'm running out of creativity and what creativity I have is devoted to next season, which kicks off with Tyrannosaurus vs Magnapaulia, which replaces Shantungosaurus. So here we go.... InGen File: Veterupristisaurus [img]http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/085/8/8/carcharodontosaurus_by_tmac1kobe8vc15-d4u0qq9.jpg[/img] Code Name: Phantom Danger Level: Very dangerous Height: 14 feet Length: 33 feet Weight: 3 tons Speed: 35 mph Diet: Various herbivores Weapons: Bite, claws, speed Description: Veterupristisaurus is one of the critically endangered species of carcharodontosaur on Isla Sorna. It was heavily effected by the prion diseased sheep and cattle in April 2011, showing that it was forced out of the mountains by then. When they lived in the valleys they were called "the phantoms" because they were all black in color and hid in the crevices and caves along the mountainsides. Instead of fighting the Troodon that already lived there, the two species formed an alliance. If the carcharodontosaurs could bring the Troodon wounded but living sauropods to incubate their eggs in, the Troodon would let them live in the caves as well. Both species were benefiting from the partnership in 2008 but after the Veterupristisaurus couldn't manage to catch sauropods without them being stolen by larger species, the Troodon kicked them out of their homes and the two species were at war for a brief amount of time. Even though the Veterupristisaurus were larger and far more powerful, the Troodon easily overwhelmed them with their huge numbers and very high intelligence. Veterupristisaurus are very stealthy and fast. Their main rivals are Kelmayisaurus, Eocarchia, Troodon and the other inhabitants of the western valleys. In late 2011 DNA samples were obtained and they showed evidence of inbreeding, suggesting the population was very low and unhealthy at the time. Fossils will be used to recreate them if they are ever to be put in the park because the DNA was fragile and mutated. InGen File: Styracosaurus [img]http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/011/f/e/fef417239d59a97b32d22ac5cb32b91b-d5ia8hi.png[/img] Code Name: Rhino Danger Level: Harmless unless provoked Height: 9 feet Length: 20 feet Weight: 2.75 tons Speed: Charges at 28 mph Diet: Various plants Weapons: Horns, speed Description: Styracosaurus is one of InGen's most popular dinosaurs. In the original park merchandise sold well and in the new park it will likely sell even better. Styracosaurus inhabits both Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna and females are the most common gender on Site A while males are on Site B, something that has led to a difference in numbers as well as other various things. The males are more easily preyed upon, being solitary, and thus have a smaller population. Females travel in herds with only one adult male and are harder to prey upon due to the herd's human-like care for one another. Styracosaurus are greenish brown with dark green or brown vertical stripes along their backs, tails, legs and faces. They are best known for having a huge array of threatening horns, with males having six long frill horns up to three or possibly four feet long and one nose horn up to three feet. Melanistic Styracosaurus have been recorded on multiple occasions and, despite once being fairly numerous around 1998, they are now endangered due to poaching by big game hunters who can sell their horns for well over five million dollars, being sheathed in what is thought to be ivory. FIGHT! A Styracosaurus stands, unsuspecting, as a Veterupristisaurus stalks her. A rather sizable carnivore in the shadow of existence, the Veterupristisaurus is a desperate and critically endangered animal, most of his species having fallen from the prion diseased sheep that were released. Still, some remain. One of the few left, this Veterupristisaurus knows that this Styracosaurus is the only food he'll come across for days, most animals of Isla Sorna having been captured and put in the new park by now or euthanized. The carcharodontosaur carefully watches the Styracosaurus as night falls. He's been following it for hours, closely observing this unusual animal from the cover of the trees. Cautious of its dangerously spiked head, he carefully creeps up behind it and opens his mouth, placing his jaws full of serrated teeth over the Styracosaurus' neck, just under its frill. The ceratopsian turns, however, and a horn hits the Veterupristisaurus in the neck and he jumps back, startled at the lethal spike even touching such a vital place. Now alerted to the carnivore's presence, the Styracosaurus turns around and growls low, stomping its feet and bellowing at the theropod. The ceratopsian mock charges and forces the wily Veterupristisaurus back. It's all or nothing for him. Gathering all of his bravery and desperation, the sharp toothed theropod attacks. With a roar he runs forward to meet the ceratopsian and it charges as well, but the smarter theropod dodges with a side jump. The Styracosaurus runs past him and continues to charge forward, its shield crowned with long spikes lowered as a bladed battering ram. The Veterupristisaurus runs up behind the ceratopsian and sinks his teeth into its flanking, chopping a good portion of its thigh off. Distracted by the wonderful taste of food, he is momentarily distracted and lowers his guard. A near fatal mistake. The Styracosaurus turns back around and thrusts its horn towards his throat, instead catching him in the tip of the lower jaw. The Styracosaurus yanks back and dislocates the predator's jaw, causing the Veterupristisaurus to let out a shriek of pain and jump away, freeing his jaw. The Styracosaurus doesn't have horns as long as those of males, but hers are just as deadly when in contact with flesh. The Veterupristisaurus shakes his head roars. The carcharodontosaur charges the Styracosaurus and bites her frill. He uses his size and power to force her head down, but his lower jaw isn't working right and he can't bite through the bony shield on her head. The Styracosaurus pushes up and gets her head off the ground. The cretaceous rhino-like animal shoulder rams the Veterupristisaurus in the leg. She pulls her frill from his mouth and slams her shoulder into his knee once again. The bigger carnivore falls and lands on his jaw, pushing it back into place but bruising his chin in the process. Wary of the Styracosaurus, the Veterupristisaurus backs away and looks for another opening. He charges her again but stops short, realizing it's a bad idea. Instead, he circles her, carefully watching for an opening. He could use his size to muscle his way to victory, if only he could disarm her. But his jaws couldn't slice off all of her horns and her frill. His mind is made up for him when the Styracosaurus charges. She spears the unlucky Veterupristisaurus in the leg and pierces his femur, shoving him back a distance before he trips, snapping off her horn. At the cost of his leg, he has disarmed her... Or so he thinks. He tries to stand but the Styracosaurus charges him again, spearing his ribs with her frill horns. She lifts her head and breaks his ribs while at the same time pulling him open, exposing his intestines. Taken aback at the gruesome wound, she snorts and steps back. The adrenaline fueled Veterupristisaurus kicks the ceratopsian in the face, breaking her beak and the skull behind it before using his one good leg and arms to stand. The Styracosaurus bellows strangely as blood gushes from the wound. Taking a once in a life time advantage, the Veterupristisaurus rushes to her side and hip rams her, falling on her in the process. The two topple to the wet grassy and muddy ground, locked in desperate combat. She whips her head back just as the Veterupristisaurus was going in for the neck bite, stabbing his upper jaw with her spikes and impaling his skull all the way through. She can't pull her spikes out and tries to stand, but the Veterupristisaurus is weighing her down. This is more than a struggle for food now, and the Veterupristisaurus wants to be the last one standing in this fight. He pulls back and yanks the spikes forward through his skull, shattering his upper snout but freeing himself. He viciously attacks the Styracosaurus with a barrage of broken skulled bites, using what teeth he could to butcher her rib cage. He moves his face to her neck and continues tearing, exposing vertebrae. But the Styracosaurus isn't defenseless. She slams her frill back and smashes the Veterupristisaurus' skull with it while stabbing the carcharodontosaur in the neck. Blood sprays the two from his jugular vein and he pulls away, startled. His very life force is pouring out on the ground as he stands on his one good leg, half crouched. He watches in horror as the blood soaks the dirt. Just as he looks up the Styracosaurus stands. With blackening vision, he eyes her and starts to run at her but his leg gives out and he falls a little, once again kneeling. The severely injured Styracosaurus charges him and thrusts her frill up as she meets him, stabbing her spikes through his brain cavity and killing him in a mere second. Unfortunately, her frill horns are stuck in his skull very deep and it may be days before she can pull him off. If she has that long left. WINNER: STYRACOSAURUS [img]http://ashere.deviantart.com/art/Styracosaurus-WIP-110988014[/img] It was a tough call. I initially favored Veterupristisaurus, but during the fight that changed. With the huge amount of spikes covering the Styracosaurus' frill, it gained the advantage and won. It just had too many weapons to disarm. Questions? Comments? Anything? Let me know! Great fight, entertaining as always. I think that Styracosaurus is too well-armored to be killed by a non-tyrannosaur. Also, congratulations for the wedding! ;)
